View Full Version : HID Highbeams? e36_m3_turbo 01-24-2008, 05:02 PM Im thinking about Hid in all the lights including highbeam. Opinions? E36M34life 01-24-2008, 05:05 PM Im thinking about Hid in all the lights including highbeam. Opinions? No offense, but I think that is a really dumb idea. How often do you use your high beams for you to blow $150+ dollars on? M3boarder 01-24-2008, 05:12 PM I second that, waste of money. actually even worse of an idea than HID reverse lights, which is retarded by the way. regular high beams are blinding enough, and no ones gonna make fun of you for having mismatching low/high beams when you flash the brights. Stealthauto 01-24-2008, 05:58 PM Since I installed my low beam HID's I've never reached for my highbeams anymore.... then again every other week we get orders for 3 kits from people.....low/highs/fogs! LBMotoring 01-24-2008, 06:29 PM plus it wont be instant flashing, it will have to warm up.. not worth it. Mad Machine 01-24-2008, 06:39 PM yea, hard to flash to pass with HID highs. And agreed on usage.. in all my years of driving, I doubt I have half an hours worth of high beam use combined Ohtwo 01-24-2008, 07:25 PM I don't have HIDs, and I never drove an HID equipped car on back roads, but out in the boonies, most people make good use of their highbeams. Some places you are more likely to see a deer than another car. If I'm on an interstate and no ones around, I will use them, and I always use them when I can on the back roads. Like I said before, I don't had HIDs, but for legal and safety reasons, you can only throw light so far down the road. You have never been driving and said Oh S***t where did the road go? LuvMy328is 01-24-2008, 07:30 PM Check out a set of Osram Silverstar or the Sylvania Silverstar ULTRAs, for improved HB performance. Susquehanna Motorsports a.k.a Rally Lights (http://www.RallyLights.com) sells a wide selection of bulbs. ~Phil |TIG| 01-24-2008, 07:36 PM I don't have HIDs, and I never drove an HID equipped car on back roads, but out in the boonies, most people make good use of their highbeams. And thats why I like my HID's. They put out more light than my highbeams. Even properly aimed I can see further down the road with my lows. LuvMy328is 01-24-2008, 07:42 PM If you LB are aimed high enough to outperform your HB, then that are WAY to high. And you are no where near the DOT standard of 1.1"/20 ft drop for headlight aiming. Try not to get a ticket for illegally retrofitting HID's in to a non certified housing. Just a warning, I'm not trying to be mean. ~Phil e36_m3_turbo 01-24-2008, 07:46 PM Thanks. What do you think about a DRL relay instead of the ZKW drls? e30frosh 01-24-2008, 07:52 PM I have them in my e30 only for shits and giggles. I lifted them from my other cars lows. Still don't use them. Hell, I don't even need them! Bingo 01-25-2008, 02:57 AM Your highs are already bright as hell. Plus, with HIDs in the lows, you won't really use your highs anymore. VIPLINE 01-25-2008, 03:33 AM Uhh......okay, then why not keep the low beam halogen and put HID in the high beam. Just drive around with the high beam on all the time. :confused Falcon501 01-25-2008, 04:04 AM Uhh......okay, then why not keep the low beam halogen and put HID in the high beam. Just drive around with the high beam on all the time. :confused No... then you would blind everyone. LuvMy328is 01-25-2008, 04:22 AM No... then you would blind everyone. Yup! Please refer to post #9 ;) ~Phil a4rings 01-28-2008, 05:31 AM hid's are not designed to be turned on and off within a short period of time. they need time to heat up and cool down properly. if you hav them in your highbeems and you flash them a alot they will burn out. Sound Of Speed 01-28-2008, 03:45 PM hid's are not designed to be turned on and off within a short period of time. they need time to heat up and cool down properly. if you hav them in your highbeems and you flash them a alot they will burn out. And they will be useless since they take a little while to warm up and won't light up anything. m3maker 01-28-2008, 05:20 PM Just stick with the low beams and fogs...high beams just throw in some silverstars and youll be good...plus who needs high beams when you have HID's? MY92BIMMERSROCK 01-29-2008, 01:27 PM yeah its a bad idea i put a set in my high last night to give it a shot, Braymond141 01-29-2008, 02:38 PM Very good idea for those who do a lot of night driving in the mountains or boonies as mentioned above. The added light height given off by the highs is very much needed. Those of you who say you have horrible highs must have ZKWs or DEPO's, Bosch are extremely bright in the highs and overpower my 55w HID lows. LuvMy328is 01-29-2008, 03:33 PM My HB in the Hella's with the Narva bulbs are AMAZING too. You could also always get a set of Hella or PIAA driving lights too. http://www.piaa.com/Lamps/Lamp-images/1100x.gif ~Phil |
