Does anybody know any cars that Suburu engined have been swapped into? (I'm curious) I've heard that some have been swapped into Porsches.

Beetles, Minis, Caterhams are a few that I've seen.

They're not particularly swap friendly because they don't fit between the wheelwells/shock towers on most cars... And they're not fantastic engines anyways.

The best Subaru swap I've seen is a WRX motor into the back of a VW Vanagon.

For the Porsche 914, its an excellent idea.

An excellent idea for the 914 is to send it to the wrecker, and crush it.

Agreed. They are not particularly well built or easy to maintain/upgrade. Ever seen how they disassemble the blocks? OMG its such a mess! Open this window, push the rod pins out, split the block case, etc. Yuck!

Some folks are looking at the H-6 Subaru motors from the Tribecca (ugly duckling of an SUV) and talking about putting them in Porsches. Some people are also nuts.

Ha! AGREED!

yeah I agree flat engines suck, although my neighbors daily driver impreza is street legal and runs high 10's in the 1/4mile. The main problem I see with flat engines is when you have to service them. I mean, you need to drop the whole engine if you want to change cams!
If you ask me what's my favorite engine and I would say the honda F20 or K20 wonderful engines in my opinion.

Its just that a 914 is such a basic mode of transportation that just happens to handle like a MOFO. It'll probably make a horrible DD but an awesome race car. As for Subie flat fours, they'll pretty much swap into anything that had a flat four in it to begin with and that's about it or may be a small boat or something or maybe the anchor for said boat, just kidding.

I just sold a 73 914 with a 77 2.7 911 engine in it and I wanted to do an STi swap but decided a S50B32 E30 M3 was more my style. I used to have a 00 2.5rs with a version 6 STi with about 370hp and it was awesome. The only cars that I think are logical candidates for Subaru Swaps are the 914s. Since it came with a flat four to begin with, it's pretty much at home. There are companies that make the kits to do it. It turns the 914s into very reliable cars...if you find one with little or no rust. The biggest downfall is the factory 901 transmission. If you or anyone does a Subaru/914 swap, spend the extra money and get a 915 transmission. It will be more reliable and hold the power a lot better.

WRX H4's only sound awesome with a 4 into 1 equal length turbo header. Allot of dudes just go the cheap route and run a cat back only which sounds like ass IMHO!
