View Full Version : What your Current MPG?
Just wondering what your MPG is nowadays...
I live about 2 miles from my job, but I'm only getting 16.9 MPG. I spend about $50 per week on Gas (inlcuding weekends). Chevron with Techron or Shell Super Unleaded is preferred...
What are your cost per week? How many miles do you drive everyday? Preference in Gas Brand?
ohnoes 01-21-2008, 02:36 PM 18.9 is what I'm showing currently, but I haven't reset it since I bought it about 1.5k miles ago, and it probably has a lot of highway driving averaged in from the previous owner. When I bought it it said 19.9 IIRC, but I've done a fair amount of driving at high RPMs (and relatively high speeds... 100-110) and general spirited driving. I would estimate my current MPG is more like 18 flat but I'm not sure, I'll reset it today.
I spend maybe $150/month or $175/month on gas (not sure exactly), having to refill each week and a half or so. I drive about 20 miles each way to work, including a good amount of city driving once I get to the city (going to work) and leaving it (from work) but most of the actual distance is on the highway, where I go about 78-80 indicated. I find that I can't go any slower than that, this car simply won't let me! :D I also drive about three miles each way to school Monday through Thursday, as of last week. So I probably average about 1,000 miles per month, which is the average mileage driven by Americans (12,000 per year).
I try to stick with Shell, Chevron, and Exxon.
obnoxious2 01-21-2008, 06:00 PM Costco gas ftw. Haha JK, not sure if Costco even provides 93 octance. But if you have other cars that runs on 87 or 91 you can save yourself 10-15cents/gallon at Costco.
zwede 01-21-2008, 06:48 PM I'm 7.5 miles from work, plenty of stop lights (suburbia driving). The computer usually shows high 19's mpg, but in reality it is low 18's. The computer is consistently 1.5 mpg high.
Gulfstream550 01-21-2008, 08:23 PM Unfortunately, the MPG readodout on Bimmers, like the speedo is woefully optimistic.
The only way to get accurate MPG is to reset your trip Odo when you fill up. The next time you fill up note the mileage on the trip Odo and divide it by the number of gallons it took to fill the tank.
Example; 212miles / 14.3 gallons = 14.8 mpg
BTW, I get between 16 and 17 mpg on mine, with mostly city driving and some freeway cruising at around 75 - 80
T6 Driver 01-21-2008, 09:42 PM I've noticed the same MPG optimism. I average 19.1 MPG, though the car tells me I'm getting about 21.
briansol 01-22-2008, 02:24 AM i reset it when i bought the car a year ago.
i'm doing 19.8 on it, which includes 120 mi round trip commuting, a lot of in town, and some autox events
Everett#2390 01-22-2008, 12:55 PM OBC indicates 22.7 mpg. 21 miles one way, interstate for 12 miles. Avg speed is 37.9 mph.
KyleH 01-22-2008, 08:48 PM I mainly drive my M3 on long-distance trips and get around 25mpg cruising at around 80mph. I've seen as high as 27 when driving more around 65-70mph.
I do agree with what others have said - the trip computer is a bit optomistic regarding the fuel mileage. I was also astonished to see how far off the speedometer is "over" the actual speed. Hooked up my GPS just to see and I think it was off by about 6-7mph at around 80mph.

I have a VFE S/C and my reading this morning was 43.5 kilometers per liter. NOT. The readings are, as you state, rough estimates and they only get more inaccurate when you start with the mods. But we knew this going in, right?

13.3 in the city? Ouch.
In the city I get about 18...computer says 19.X though. average speed is 19MPH, damn traffic.
ohnoes 01-26-2008, 11:14 AM After resetting the MPG meter, I'm currently showing 17.8. Not too egregious considering some 110 MPH sprints in the past couple of days and a serious case of lead foot. ;)

He has a 325Ci, too. :rofl
jersE46M3 01-26-2008, 05:10 PM I get 21.2 in the city. 28-29 on the interstate. In my old 330Ci I would ~22 in the city and 29-30 on the highway. It's ok for me I guess.

???
Call it 3 miles from work. That's 6 miles per day * 5 days = 30 miles.
Thats about $7 in gas fro your commute.
So you're spending $43 for your weekend driving?
Somethings not adding up.
this baby shugging up all the gas on the weekend like Patrick Ewing drank gatorade in the 4th quater.
