Have aircon problem with my 740.
When you turn on a/c it takes 2-3 minutes for the actual cool air to come out, no matter what slection you have made on temp, fanspeed or outlets.
Once it is going its ok but just the delay in starting is annoying. The compressor is brand new as I had to replace it the other day, but problem was there before change...... and it did tell the dealer that it should be attended to, but that must have gone onto deaf ears.
I imagine that it could be a sensor fault or something like that. Any ideas would be appreciated.

Yes, change your cabin air filters. Mine did the same thing. 10-15min. to change and a cheap fix. Blow like crazy now. Go to www.e38.org (http://www.e38.org) on how to. Good luck...

Thanks, but if they are the ones under the hood, then they have already been changed.... but I did check them all the same.
Thanks again
Nicky51 is right on the money.
Bushbabe, you've got to change the ones under the dash, not just the ones under the hood. They're not too hard to get to, but if you have access to a smaller person or teenager, then have them do it for you. The filters are accessed by lying on your back where your feet would normally go.

when looking to "Refurbish" the air filters with home depot material per the instructions on the e38.org site the pix dont show so what material are they reffering to?

New filters aren't expensive ($11.54/each). http://www.autohausaz.com/search/product.aspx?sid=qctrna55jnvobjr30feflb45&makeid=800003@BMW&modelid=1303254@740I&year=1998&cid=24@AC%20%26%20Heat%20-%20Climate%20Control&gid=6832@Cabin%20Air/Pollen%20Filter
And if you're cheap, the original ones can easily be cleaned.
I wouldn't go to all the trouble to go down to home depot and replace the material inside.

Damn, I'd just love to be in a position to have to worry about A/C. Especially since today is only 16 degrees in NYC.

Thanks all,
I'll get on my back sometime and have a "captain cook"
Thanks for all the help.
Empire 7.............. its a little warmer here. We have the odd day around 40'C
but mostly sit around 29-33'C. In your language 38'C is around the 100'F
But then we don not get too cold either.... winter temps are around 22-28'C
So the heater doen't get used that much...... maybe the odd night.
Thanks again
