I have a rear deck speaker enclosure W/speakers in perfect condition.
the cones and surrounds are perfect with no fading or UV damage.
I removed it from my 01 740il W/DSP when I did my BSW Sub upgrade.

cainecabe 01-22-2008, 09:57 PM If I have no speakers in the rear deck (it seems to have never had them) will this hook up easily? or would a lot of wiring be necessary?
wuilman 01-22-2008, 10:35 PM Hey, since you already have your speakers out. what size are those rear speakers? are they 5.25", 6", or 6.5"? one of my rear speakers blew out and I'm tired of hearing it buzz.
Thanks

I have never heard of this....Are there speaker grills on the rear deck?
I'm pretty sure there stock on all e38's. Maybe the previous owner took them out and had an aftermarket system in there.
I can guide you through the install and provide pics and links if you need them.
Dibs on corners...
You got it. PM me and we can make payment/shipping arrangements.

5.25's all around, rear deck and doors on the E38. But keep in mind they have the rear subs wired in series and I don't believe there standard 4ohm.
Check the P/N pic. I posted above, I'm pretty sure they are 8ohm. Good luck

Does your car have the DSP sound system? If it does then the previous owner removed the stock rear deck speakers and must have had a sub installed at one time. If your car does not have the DSP sound system then you would need more parts than just the rear deck speakers.
cainecabe 01-23-2008, 09:37 PM i dont know what DSP is, but my radio says "BMW Business" on it. when i look at the rear deck, it looks as if nothing was ever there. all that i see on top of the deck are two vent like things (about 1 1/2 ft long and 4-6 inches wide). when i look from inside the trunk (inside the trunk looking up at the bottom of the rear deck) i only see and feel padding. are teh speakers hidden in that? also, no noise is produced from the rear deck, just the speakers in the doors play sound.
ahhh.. you mention speaker grills. that must be the vent like things i see. i guess they were taken out or are busted somehow. but i do not see speakers from the bottom.
any docs (pics and or links) that may show how i can get to them or their wiring would be very appreciated.
Lexicon740il 01-23-2008, 11:21 PM SO your car dosent have navigation?
Look at your rear deck from the inside. Are there two Speaker grills there?
Ie. Metal painted the same color as your interior with small perferated holes in it?
If so use a small flat head screw driver and gently pry up the edge closest to the head rest. take the grill off and look to see if there are speakers in there.
Found a couple pics...

This is just a vent...If the only openings back there look like this you might be out of luck.

cainecabe 01-24-2008, 07:23 PM looks like i am out of luck because i just have those vents. why would they make a 740il with a dinky little radio?

You can also look beside your cassette player and see if you have the DSP control screen. It is part# 1 in the below link. If you do not have the DSP control screen then you could actually upgrade you system with an aftermarket system easier than those of us with the DSP.

cainecabe 01-24-2008, 09:45 PM i dont have dsp then. i just have a change holder where the dsp would be. i was told i cant upgrade the radio without losing sterring wheel controls functionality. i am fine with the radio though, i would like some decent speakers and some bass.
