ryan86242 01-20-2008, 01:40 AM so i was pulling into a carwash today, and the kid, little emo looking guy, black painted fingernails and stuff, keeps waving me in, and then *THUD* my transmission cooler nails the guide rail, my car is lowered by the way, i had 3 or my roommates in the car and they all saw him keep waving me through, anyway. my car was pissing coolant, so i parked it, its dry by now, how much am i looking at for replacement? and do i have anything on the car wash, as he was waving me in? car in 95' 540ia
ringle 01-20-2008, 01:46 AM Most car washes have damage disclaimers..."use at your own risk"...type of thing.
I guess I was lucky as all that happened to my car was the front roundel was taken off. Luckily I noticed it and went back and they retrieved it for me. A little glue and she'll be as good as new! (Or perhaps I'll look to source a CF roundel!)
Good luck with your problem.
bman10 01-20-2008, 01:50 AM So were you attracted to this emo cat? I mean what does that have to do with you hitting the car wash guide rail? I have replaced my trans cooler if you need any help or advice on the install.
flyeryan 01-20-2008, 02:05 AM was your car leaking coolant or transmission fluid?
IamCatman 01-20-2008, 03:00 AM was your car leaking coolant or transmission fluid?

Well, they USUALLY don't come off in one piece because of the way that they're designed. The nuts on the coolant lines strip out the (aluminum) threads on the cooler. They're around $500 new.
To everyone else: the car has a heat exchanger mounted to the underside of the transmission, NOT the same as the separate cooler mounted to the front of the radiator on 525/530 cars. Coolant runs in from the back of the engine.
Rebel635csi 01-20-2008, 09:49 PM so i take it this is what u busted up?
sitting behind the engine under the tranny?

Contech 01-22-2008, 01:16 AM You will have to replace the oil cooler. Its very expensive brand new around $500-$600. Try to find a used one, but make sure you know it doesn't leak. Cause if coolant somehow gets into your tranmission, then it can destroy your transmission quickly. It happened to me. Is this the part you are looking for? Part number 1?
strayts 01-22-2008, 06:43 AM maybe next time hand wash? :devillook
