If the dimensions of the diff. are the same it usually just involves switching out the flange. Not sure exactly if it's a yes or no though.

This is the info I used.

There's no E34 medium case 3.25 available. Closest would be 3.23, which is in any 5 speed 525 car, or any (auto) 530 Touring. If you want to go taller, 530 auto sedans use 3.15s and 530 manual sedans use 3.07s.

these would be a straight swap and LSD right?

not necessarily a limited slip, but any E34 medium case exchanges with another E34 medium case.

Very few 530/530 tourings have limited slips, so finding an LS 3.15/3.07 could be tough. Most cars came with ASC+T at that point. The 3.23LS is easier to find.

Now, if you do find an open 3.07/3.15, you can install a medium case limited slip unit in the housing. It has to be shimmed and set up, but most shops can do this work fairly easily. The thing that is NOT so easy is setting up the pinion, which is why you need the housing and gear set -- then you can bolt the LS into place, and not mess with the factory-set pinion. Incidentally, I actually have a 3.15 open in my '93 530 parts touring. Only problem is that it's under a pile of snow right now.
