Hello everyone, I have has this rattling in the front end of my car. I replaced my brakes early fall, but the noise started before then. I put the car back up on the lift and checked to make sure the bolts were not loose. Nothing seemed loose, but the noise is still there. It is only when I hit holes in the road or when I drive on broken pavement. I am pretty sure the bushings are all original and the car (2000 328i) has about 77K on it. Any suggestions or any more test I could do to narrow this down? Thanks!!

Control arms and bushings, sway bar links and tie rods are normal stuff that causes noises in the front.

Oh yea, almost forgot...

Pretty common subject. Search "control arms", "sway bar links" and "tie rods" and you'll get a bunch of good info on what they do, how to change them and links to DIY's. ;)

I would love to do it myself but I just move to Minneapolis from NY for school and don't have a garage or tools to do that kind of stuff any more. Any idea on how much it would cost to have the BMW garage do it or should I look for someone else to do it. And thank you for the ideas!!

Control arms and bushings are a thousand dollar deal at a dealer. Struts ain't cheap either (prolly $6-700). Sway bar links are cheap and easy. If you're on a tight budget, look for an indy shop to do it. Get some feedback from prople in your area for a reputable shop to got to.

I support the control arms as well...but if its a metallic kinda like a tin can being dropped on the floor when I would check your heat shield. I had this problem with my car and got it fixed.
