A little background info: I have Apexcone ellipsoid headlights and just installed a set of 5000k Apexcone Race HIDs into them a few days ago.

The problem: The HIDs worked great for all of about a day, until I went to turn my headlights on and got a lowbeam failure message on the OBC. I got out and checked and sure enough, my drivers side HID wasn't firing up. Once I got back home I checked all my connections and everything was fine. I swapped the bulb and ballast I had on the drivers side into the passenger side headlight and it light up fine. So obviously the HID kit isn't the problem. After seeing that the bulb and ballast were working as they should when installed in the pass. side headlight, I put a halogen H1 bulb into the drivers side headlight to see what would happen and it too wouldn't light up when I turned the headlights on... My drivers side highbeam still works though...

So the drivers side lowbeam is apparently not getting any power at all...? All my connections are fine and as I said, the bubs and ballast work fine when swapped over. I'm totally stumped on this and it'd be nice to have working headlights..

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Sounds like it is a problem with the driver's side lowbeam connection not getting any power. (You've eliminated a bulb and ballast problem.) This means that it is either a bad fuse or possibly a bad wire connection (clipped wire) to the driver's side connection (a little unlikely though). I would start by upgrading the fuse to a 15amp one and see if it fixes the problem.

I don't have a test light on hand to check the fuse (I'll have to do that tomorrow at work), but I did pull the 7.5A drivers side lowbeam fuse and put a 15A fuse in its place, made no difference... :(

So that rules a fuse being the issue out... I won't have time to pull the whole drivers headlight until tomorrow after work, but it does seems highly unlikely for a wire to have clipped or something since the drivers HID was working at first..

I'm beyond stumped right now. At this point I'll probably just end up putting the stock headlights back in for a while and maybe just buy a set of ZKW's.. :az

Hmmm very wierd, I would first just really THOROUGHLY check the wires, make sure nothings crimped or loose or cut, but really thoroughly so you can confidently say its not the wires.

I've done as much checking as I can without removing the headlight right now and everything seems to be fine, but I won't be sure until tomorrow.

I've been screwing with this since yesterday and still can't get it to work, so needless to say I don't really feel like taking the headlight out all over again right now lol.

I don't see how it could even be a headlight issue. The 9006 plug from the car goes into the HID ballast, and the two connectors from the ballasts connect directly to the two connectors of the HID bulb. There is nothing that connects to the headlights in the low beams. Just take the HID bulb out of the headlight and try it out again and see. It really sounds like the driver's side low beam harness might be bad (a clipped wire or something).

Update: I got it working.

The old drivers headlight lowbeam fuse was blown when I tested it today. I popped in a new 7.5A fuse and it blew immediatley. It also blew the 15A fuse I put in last night.

I did have the HID wired through the PnP harness, and after putting the stock 9006 connecter straight into the ballast and putting in another new 15A fuse, it works just as it should. Thanks to everyone that helped and big thanks goes out to Chris at understeer, as he PM'd me and explained to me what I should do without me even PM'ing him. Great customer service, yet again.

That's great news. I thought that connecting the stock 9006 plug straight into the ballast was always the standard way. Anyways, luckily you didn't spend too much replacing fuses. ;)

And yeah, Chris@understeer is the man! Best customer support around.
