I posted this in OT yesterday, surprisingly to very few responses. So, I thought I would try here.

Anyway, I've never been to CO before, but I'm heading out there from Fri Feb 15th - Tues Feb 19th. I'm going to visit a buddy from HS who recently moved out after finishing undergrad.

I know atleast two of the days will be spent snowboarding, and I know the Fri Night will be spent adjusting to the altitude (apparently this is a big deal?) and getting wasted. He is still newer out there, so I don't know how well he knows the area.

Anyway, I was hoping some of you locals could recommend places that I should check out while I am in town. From sight seeing, to the best mountains, to the best night life. I'm 22 if it helps, quite social, and love going out.

Also, I thought I would extend the offer b/c I know I've spoken with a few CO people on the board, if anyone wants to meet up either going out at night or on the mountains. I'll be there with my buddy (23) and I assume his GF will be there (prob same age). I don't know if there will be more of us, but I thought it would be a good way to meet some ppl if anyone was interested.

Thx

I assume you are flying in...

the altitude isn't a big deal IMO... I've never needed an adjustment time.

go easy on the alkie though, that WILL hit you like a train at altitude.

Altitude might effect you in combination with dry climate. I get a lot of bloody noses here from the dry weather and altitude. (originally from Seattle) If you are snowboarding, you can expect to be short of breath a lot faster than what you are used to. If you are running, you will die.

+1 on the alcohol, but at least you can get wasted for cheap here.

Here's a few ideas in this recent thread from a visitor. http://forums.bimmerforums.com/forum/showthread.php?t=912203

Make sure you buy your beer/liquor before Sundays because they're all closed on Sundays except for the little stuff you can usually find at a grocery store.

Micro-breweries are good around here. Rock Bottom and The Fox and Hound are a few I like.

If you have an off day, the Denver Aquarium and the Natural History Museum might be worth seeing.

I'm sure there's a good downtown scene but I don't know too much about it since I live south of Denver in the Springs and am locked to the spousal and baby unit too much.

Yeah. Liquor can hit you like a ton of bricks. I'm used to drinking at 5000 feet, but when I am camping at 8000 or above, next day is killer.

Lower downtown (Lodo) is a good spot to hit.

within 5 minutes of arriving in denver, run at least 10 miles, its your only chance of sure survival in this state

roffling over here... the altitude doesn't affect me as much as some other folks apparently, but two beers and I'm DONE.

Haha thanks guys. I'm kinda of looking forward to being a cheaper date, it means I wont blow as much as I do around here at the bars. Thankfully I'm in pretty good athletic shape, so I'm sure the windedness will come sooner, but Ill try to stay aware of that.

And for the no liquor on sundays, I thought CT was the only state stupid enough to still have laws like that in effect. Who knew.

I gotta go read that link that was posted above still. Any of the younger crowd have any nightlife places they want to recommend?

the only nightlife I know is in Breckenridge...

Ooh and so I asked my buddy the actual town he's in. He's in Boulder, so he's not actually in Denver. I dunno if that changes anything

If he's in Boulder there should be plenty to do there. Check out Pearl Street, eat at the Sink, its a lively college town.

+1. The Foundry is a good place too. Since CU-Boulder just started the semester, you might see more people out partying than normal for the next couple of weeks.

You might also be asked to join a hippie liberal cult and offered tons of free marijuana. Just because the van is a volkswagen doesnt mean you should go for a ride in it.
