Can't seem to get find a straight answer. Looking to buy a set of 19" rims from a E46 3 series, changing the tire size and bolting them up. How about E46 M3 fitment? Does the rear offset work?

View Full Version : Anyone confirm 3-series rims bolt on to the E53 X? IslandS62 01-16-2008, 07:15 PM Can't seem to get find a straight answer. Mad Dragon 01-16-2008, 08:19 PM No. X5s have larger lug bolts. IslandS62 01-16-2008, 08:24 PM Thanks for the reply. So X wheels don't really interchange with other bimmers then? Blk4e36 01-16-2008, 08:27 PM Wrong answer x5 wheels do fit e36 and should fit e46. I had 17 bmw x5 wheels on my e36, so it will fit Mad Dragon 01-16-2008, 10:36 PM Regardless of if they actually fit, E46 wheels are not designed for SAVs. IslandS62 01-16-2008, 11:20 PM if the offset and hub size are correct I don't see any issue with 3-series or any other type of rim on the X. 4500 RPM 01-16-2008, 11:24 PM E53 wheels have been used on E36s, I know that. If the wheels are TUeV approved, I don't see why you can't run them. They should be plenty strong for Hawaii duty. dkl 01-16-2008, 11:32 PM E53 wheels have been used on E36s, I know that. E36s weight 3200lb, may be 4000lb fully loaded. Do you wanna take that chance? dkl 01-16-2008, 11:38 PM Wrong answer x5 wheels do fit e36 and should fit e46. I had 17 bmw x5 wheels on my e36, so it will fit True, but not entirely...I sold my 17" bmw X5 wheels to an e46 owner, so I know that it will fit. BUT while it (X5 wheels) will work on the e46, the reverse may not. e46s use 17mm bolts, e53s use 19mm bolts. Critter7r 01-17-2008, 08:57 AM Wrong answer x5 wheels do fit e36 and should fit e46. I had 17 bmw x5 wheels on my e36, so it will fit Right but since the X5 has 14mm lugs and the E46 has 12mm lugs, the reverse is NOT true. The X5 bolt may just fit throught the bolt hole on an E46 wheel, but it is not intended to and not safe to do so. The taper of the lug bolts is different and the E46 bolts will sit too low in the bevel in the wheel from an E53. There won't be nearly as much holding force as there is on a wheel designed for an E46. That could make for some separation issues during hard cornering. True, but not entirely...I sold my 17" bmw X5 wheels to an e46 owner, so I know that it will fit. BUT while it (X5 wheels) will work on the e46, the reverse may not. e46s use 17mm (headed) bolts, e53s use 19mm (headed) bolts. (the bolts themselves are actually 12mm and 14mm) fixed Mad Dragon 01-18-2008, 07:54 PM Looks like I was right, after all. ;) |
