View Full Version : Colorado Springs Machine Shop? SeeMeFly 01-16-2008, 03:42 PM anyone know of a good place in town? mrnvgtr 01-16-2008, 03:45 PM What do you need done specifically? SeeMeFly 01-16-2008, 03:55 PM I purchased some winter wheels from a friend. (he had e46 m3; mines e36 m3) It turns out the offset is a lot higher on the left side than the right. Probably a product of them just being mounted wrong. I'm wondering if I could get a machine shop with the proper equipment to file down those wheels to match the other side, which fit perfectly. I've noticed every now and then when I hit a bump it rubs on the left. If any one has a better idea, let me know! mrnvgtr 01-16-2008, 05:17 PM It sounds more like you need a wheel repair shop than a machine shop. They work miracles on damaged wheels, so I'd think they could handle something like you said. I haven't heard of any good ones in the area, but I'm sure they exist with all the pot holes we have here. Just do a quick Google search ("Colorado" and "wheel repair") and you'll come up with a few options. However, have you actually measured the wheel? I'm willing to bet $5 that it is your BMW's alignment that is slightly off. I don't know all of the models that this occurs with, but I think it is the e36, e34, and e39 variants that I've heard about this going on. Take what I say lightly, but I think I remember it being either a bushing problem or it just came from the factory slightly off on some. Mine has it. The wheels 1/8 to 1/4" off to one side. If your wheels are actually straight but you still want to fix the problem, then I recommend getting both sides machined down equally, the least amount possible, so that they're easier to sell if you need to later. SeeMeFly 01-16-2008, 06:58 PM Yeah, I'll take a look at the bushings. I guess I ruled that out since my summer wheels fit fine. I know the wheels I've got on now are in true form and not bent. That's why I was thinking it might help to just get the left side machined down a bit. (equally of course) I'll see if I can't find a wheel repair place. Thanks for your help. |
