Just got into my first accident in years, messed up my suspension on the drivers side from what I can tell so far. The drivers side wheel is pushed back so that it's almost touching the inside wheel well, but straight. A "Mechanic" said that if the wheel could still turn all I would need is an alignment. Does this sound right???

without seeing the damage, sounds like you need upper and lower control arms, as well as possibly a replacement sway bar.
Check the strut tower in the engine compartment and see if there is any sheet metal damage where the 3 strut mounting bolts are attached. Post a few pics if you can.

An alignment will eventually be needed, but you need to replace the broken stuff first.

Sorry to hear about that - ouch!

I'm going to take pictures and try to postthem when I get back to the house. Thanks for the info, a simple alignment didn't sound right...

Should I replace upper/ lowers on BOTH sides, or will I be good for the one?

No it isn't right! If your wheel is pushed back that far the thrust arm is bent, (that is the main arm that controls fore and aft position of the lower end of the strut) the wishbone (the aluminum arm) being aluminum is probably stressed and is not safe to use again, and indeed may be bent. If it got hit that hard you probably also bent the shock tube, (it bends at the bottom of the tube where it meets the axle support) which will show in a camber caster alignment. Tie rods also bend when they are subjected to extreme force.

I don't think the sway bar will be effected, it is mounted in rubber and is connected to the strut by small links, unless the wheel assembly contacted the sway bar directly, it will not be bent.

Pictures will help and try to take many different angles, pictures are very deceiving sometimes.

I'm with you Ed, $$$$. I would replace all of the above. Kinda hard to "eyeball" any individual parts.
