While poking around in the trunk with tender connections, voltage test etc.
I found a Battery vent tube (disconnected). They are located on the forward edge of the battery hold downs.
The batteries on this car have been replaced recently with sealed Interstates that vent out the side with an oval fitting.
it is my goal to reconnect, but the original hose is short and round and apparently connected to the end of the original type batteries, and I will need to make a connection from oval tube to round....
Anyone have any experience with vent tubes.....?
I would assume that you wouldn't want the batteries to vent into trunk space.....may cause some unnecessary corrosion....?

You need to vent the batteries to the outside, it can be dangerous to have a build up of Hydrogen in the truck as well as corrosion. I have used silicon tubing that is pliable enough to go around the oval battery vents and then connect that up to the tube that lead away and outside. It should be a fairly secure connection

Another word of caution, I have seen a lot of E31 where the tube exiting to the outside was just above the heat shield (to short) and the entire heat shield was badly corroded, even some of the metal work above the heat shield (trunk floor) was effected on the outside. Make sure the tube extends below the heat shield on both sides.

It seemed unusual to vent to the trunk, but whomever installed these batteries wasn't thorough......and I would question them in the future.
I'll heed your advise and crawl under the car and look for the exiting tube etc......

thanx again

I use Optima yellow top batteries, No venting needed, High Crank, You can mount upside down! No spilling etc...

The INTERSTATES (MTP-93's) that I put in my car came with the "optional" venting hose hook-ups for free, just have to ask for them. Venting into the trunk can cause some problems (think acidic gases reacting to every material in there)...

Thanks, that's another easy solution......I have a distributor a mile from my house and can easily stop by and pick the vent tubes up.
Something else to cross off the list. :lol

But when the car was in for service, my buddy just told them to put in batteries......hence Interstate......and no thought of connecting vent tube :(

shame on them, they should have noticed the ones they removed ! They come free with the batteries if they ordered them for an 8. That distributer will fix you up.

I have found in the few that I have owned, and I must have @ least 18 batteries in my cars, boat, golf car, motorhome=11:eyecrazy

The interstates have been fine if properly maintained,
I have Used Delco in most of my cars, and Die hards in the boat.

latest failure on my 05 Accord had me install an Interstate in the parking lot of the local Interstate distributor......real informative guy, and may frequent him next for continued needs. 1 Mile away and good pricing.
Plan on a trip there today for the vent tubes.....
