O.K. was driving home from work and heading towards the freeway. The only way to get onto the East direction freeway was to make a right turn from the street that I was on. To make matters worst, traffic is always bad around this time, you would have to wait in line for 15-20 minutes just to get on. So here I am minding my own business and waiting patiently like many other motorists in the right lane. I was about two blocks away from the freeway and there was some minor traffic in front of me and about 20-25 cars behind me. As I pulled up to the traffic light, the darn thing turns red.

Sitting at a light I was tuning my radio for some good commuting music. In the corner of my eye, I see this blue car pop out from the back of the line and proceeded to pass everyone up in the middle lane. I guess he saw that there was an open lane next to me and decided that he can just pull up to the front and overtake the first car in line.

Big Mistake! Unbeknownst to him, there was an M3 (E46) at the front of the line with one heck of a short tempered driver (me). So here we were waiting....I pretended like I didn't know what he was about to do and did not make any eye contact. I slowly and covertly put my car in first gear and continued to wait.

The light turns green and I waited him to make the first move. He guns his car and it immediately took off. He was a good half car length ahead of me by the time I began to accelerate. I took my car to 6700 rpm and dropped it into second. By this time I was already right beside him. From second to third....I began to pull on him hard and can kind of see the back of his car in my rear view mirror. By the time I hit fourth....I was at least 2 to 2 1/2 car lengths ahead of him and he basically gave up and pulled in behind me. We both get onto the freeway and I was again doing the speed limit. He slowly pulled up along side me and we both smiled at each other. As he passed me up....I notice that he was driving an Audi S4.

Boy those Bi-Turbos do launch fast. For the first few seconds I thought that I would loose this race.

I WANT YOUR CAR!! :D

An S4 is no match for a E46 M3.. :) A worked S4 will give u a run for ur money tho.. :(

Shifted at 6700 ... why, you've got a 8000 redline. I'd have swung it all the way around for an event like that. But then again, I swing my car to redline for the fun of it... no event needed.

Sounds like fun... wish I could have seen that. Wish I could have had a E46 M3 to do that with.

There is a silver A4 around here running something silly like a stage 7+ setup. It's sick... I dare not mess with that car. To this very day, I don't think I've had an S4 try and launch against me. Dunno why... maybe the AA badges on the side scare them away.

Kevlar.....believe me I wanted to so bad...but my car is still new, only 1000 miles. I didn't want to over do it before my 1200 mile service.

Ya know, everone is scared of them when they get past a certain stage of mods (like big turbos, chip, injectors, engine work, etc), but putting a shitload of power to the ground with great traction takes its toll on the clutch, gearbox, diffs (there are 3 I think), etc. How long do the super-fast S4's last on steroids? Anyone heard of problems with breaking stuff?

Any of you turbo/SC M3 guys running through gearboxes, clutches, etc? I'm sure your tires don't last long!! :D

Biggest problem I heard of was the hoses blowing off the engine cause they weren't design for high boost. Anything over stock levels requires that the hoses be reinforced.

Also, I'm sure that the tranny isn't capable of too many clutch drops with that much more power.

I read audiworld.com religiously before I decided on my M3 and there are ALOT of reliability issues. The tubros love to roach and Audi loves to void the warranty. A couple of people were on their 3rd set...I've also heard of the hose problem. Usually its a small tear though and difficult to diagnose. Also, you can't do a clutch drop on those babies drive train will not take it stock or mod'd. If you've ever seen a 3000GT do a 6k clutch drop and run sideways as all four wheels light up, you know what they're missing. I'm not sure how hard you can really launch those things as the owners are unwilling (I wouldn't) to try, but damn when people say they get a new chip...There is much more to the story that just more boost. You can get a valet program, a racing program, normal, and your plain increased boost. All of which are switchable while you are sitting at a stop light. Pretty impressive, spendy, but impressive.

those things are DAMN fast, people running low 13's (13.1-13.3) with a chip and exhaust!!!!

I read the audi board too and I have heard of just as many problems with the m's as with the s4's (most due to driver error blow turbos and the throttle body boots, the little piece of rubber conntecting the intercoolers to the intake its a $15 piece and audi remade it with better materials and clamps)

So many people chip the s4s that Audi of America is now paranoid and tries the spanish inquistion technics on anyone with a blown turbo but I have only heard of 2 warranty denials.

I would be REALLY careful of a 0-60 or 80 run with one even in an E46, call me crazy but those things are laying down 1.8's 60' times It is going to come down to drivers if the s4 is modded!
