View Full Version : Amp Rack? Zee525iM 04-16-2003, 07:44 PM just ordered up my stuff, i have a e34 and wanted to know if anybody had any ideas for a amp rack? Thanks Zee D Unit 04-20-2003, 09:08 PM I just built myself an amp rack for the past week and installed it in my car today. Here is a pic of one of the amps that will placed behind the seats of my e36. Since this was my very first audio install, I kept it pretty simple. The amp is a US Amps 200 and has a clear plexiglass bottom that displays the guts of the amp. So, what I did was put a mirror on the very bottom so you could see the bottom of the amp, added 1 inch plastic stands, and a 1 inch plexglass platform. Next, I plan on buying some LED light bars and placing them behind the amp to give the plexiglass platform a glowing/floating look. digitalgm 04-20-2003, 10:40 PM Looks crazy good man. Especially damn good for a first timer. How much you pay for the plexi? Adamr D Unit 04-20-2003, 11:28 PM I spent like $30 for each plexiglass. At first, I thought it was kinda expensive, but I probably ONLY spent about $100 on materials for my amp racks, excluding the tools I had to buy and the RCA & power cables. By the way, if anyone is going to do their own install, I highly suggest www.knukonzepts.com. Here is the chrome amp. It is a US Amps DE 1000 that is capable of 1000 watts @ 1 ohm. hdd3md 04-21-2003, 08:04 AM where would one obtain 1" plexi? NoSoup4U 04-21-2003, 08:30 AM Site does not work -- damn, that looks crazy good!!! Will home depot or Lowe's sell plexiglass, and more importantly, will they cut it? I know in the past, when I tried to cut plexiglass for a custom box (which turned out like shit ... :(). The plastic on the edges of the plexiglass melted where I was cutting for some reason; what did I do wrong? This is a stupid question as well; but, is it true that having a box made with a plexiglass front is not OPTIMAL for sound? Why is that? kevin7909 04-21-2003, 08:39 AM 'This is a stupid question as well; but, is it true that having a box made with a plexiglass front is not OPTIMAL for sound? Why is that?' no its not true....if the plexi is thick enough that it doesn't flex with the bass your fine... Kevin D Unit 04-21-2003, 11:54 AM sorry, the correct site name is www.knukonceptz.com. it pretty much has everything you need as far as install goes, and the guys there are pretty cool. i give their customer service an A+ and just wanted to promote the smaller private company. anyway, to get the plexiglass go to Tap Plastics. I don't know how big of a company they are, but they are located throughout the Bay Area, CA. Just tell them how thick you want the plexiglass and tell them the dimensions, and they cut it for you. after you make your order, just wait around 5-10 minutes, and it's done. for a CUT 18 x 9 x 1 inch plexiglass, it costs me $30 which included tax and labor. you can also get the mirrors and have them cut there too. in fact, they could probably put together a whole plexiglass box, triangle, or anything, if you give them the dimensions. oh yeah, 1 inch plexiglass was probably going a little over board. i would probably suggest 3/4 in or less, but it's up to your personal preference. the thickness varies from 1/8 in to 2 inches! www.thezeb.com also has some StreetGlow neon and Varad LED Lightbars for decent prices. i recently bought the (2) Varad 12" BLUE LED light bars for the 2 amps and (2) StreetGlow Sound Activated Blue neon to light up the rest of the trunk. i heard LEDs are best for lighting up amps because they are brighter but spread a lot less than neon lights. neck 04-22-2003, 02:24 PM Originally posted by Zee525iM just ordered up my stuff, i have a e34 and wanted to know if anybody had any ideas for a amp rack? Thanks Zee i'm currently in the process of attempting to build an amp rack for my e46. i think i'm going to use the T made from wood like others have done. i'm going to try get away with not using any mounting screws to hold down the wood. maybe if i make it percise enough, it'll just lock into the black plastic piece near the tail light in my trunk. Zee525iM 04-24-2003, 06:29 PM Thanks for all the help guys! I'll post pics when im done too. |
