They claim it is not due to built in resistors. (that and the plug and play nature is what attracted me to the product in the first place)

As a general rule of thumb, I only use OEM bulbs since the OBC detests anything less! To win the ongoing war with the electrical gremlins, your ordnance should be OEM.

Exactly my point - if the resistance of these bulbs is any different from oem - the OBC WILL throw an error. Doesn't mean they won't light up, it's just that you'll throw a fault everytime you turn on the car.
Heck, folks get an error message when the stock bulbs are just starting to fail-
