I was just wondering why BMW doesn't race the M5 in the DTM races. They are all Audi and Mercedes. Why is that?

No money left after F1.

With the understanding that all you're going to get is speculation in response, my opinion is BMW doesn't feel the need to spend large amounts of money on racing their street products, whether it's in the US or in Europe. I really think they feel they're selling everything they can possibly produce, so why bother?

They have F1 so they can say they're at the pinnacle of world motorsports.

Gutta guess that BMW decided to fund their F1 effort instead, something that neither Mercedes or Audi does (Mercedes certainly not on their own, and Audi not at all). The money involved in that series I'm guessing is several multiples beyond DTM.

Just this weekend SpeedChannel had a hour of DTM on, and I don't remember even seeing a privateer running anything with a Roundel. Guess the M6 is just way too expensive to campaign, esp. with no factory support whatsoever? And as you said, nothing but Mercedes and Audis in the entire field as I recall.

Just speculating....
