View Full Version : MORE E30 Vibration issues
Numereins 01-14-2008, 12:48 PM So here we go again. Vibration starts at or around 35mph... CSB replacement = no fixxy da problem:rolleyes Vibration still occurs under load, and goes away when I put the tranny in neutral... I put the car in the air this morning and noticed that the rear tranny mounts were toast... Could this be my problem???
CDM5GO 01-14-2008, 12:49 PM You needz a driveshaft.

+1 if the noise goes away when it is out of gear.

Yep.. chances are you will need another CSB and Guibo as well.
Numereins 01-14-2008, 01:26 PM How could a drive shaft just go bad one day? If there is load on it, how would vibration persist? U-joints seems ok and in order when I did the CSB...
Can anyone enlighten me?
Is "in order" the same thing as "in phase"?
kendogg 01-14-2008, 04:53 PM Also, are there balance weights on the BMW stock driveshafts??? Whats the possibility that ti's become out of balance?? This would also be very dependent on the phasing of the front and rear halves as well.
Numereins 01-14-2008, 05:17 PM Yes, there is a weight on the drive shaft that is still on there... Does anyone think or know if the rear transmission mounts going bad could cause a horrible vibration under load?

They would have to be mush. Mine would bend easily with finger pressure.. But kept the driveshaft in check.

zeit00 01-15-2008, 09:26 AM Well the height of the original bushings is not a good test. They do compress when the weight of the tranny is on them. Honestley if they are bad just get some new ones.. I personally like the UUC kit $35 and you can get them local from Harrison motorsports. If you get the black ones you won't get any NVH and they will last a lot longer than stock.
Numereins 01-15-2008, 09:45 AM NVH?
Was is das bitte?

+1 although most people complain about NVH with the street red versions.. I am running the red race versions and have no NVH. Well not from the tranny mounts anyway.. :devillook
sairoland 01-15-2008, 11:01 AM In my m3 the Red street mounts were fine until i put in a LTW flywheel. The combination of those too was too much to bear in daily driving situations. I put back in some new OE mounts and it was 1000x better.

Yea I am running the UUC stage 2 flyhweel with the red race version.. no problems.
328iJunkie 01-15-2008, 01:15 PM Output seal on the tranny is leaking dumping tranny fluid on the mounts and turning them to mush. Same thing happened to broke30's green car. The tranny acutally shifted one time on a clutch dump and he had the worst vibs. till he replaced the mounts.
Numereins 01-15-2008, 04:18 PM Thanks a lot for the info. Going to get it done tomorrow sometime I think...
I will keep ya posted.
