hello all,


i recently bought a 1990 325is for a nice DD/track car. i've decided to run a different class so i cannot use the car, so it's now for sale.

the car is a 1990 325is 5-speed

it was a stolen recovery, which means it has a salvage title but it has been re-certified.

it has 50K original miles, it's a 5-speed with leather, power windows, locks, and moonroof. it has the original BBS basketweave wheels.

the exterior is in pretty good shape overall. there is a little rust along the front edge of the hood, and some along the bottom of the trunk. it's not totally visable, but it's there. it can be sanded and repainted quite easily. there is also a dent on the drivers-side c-pillar.

the undercarriage is in excellent condition. i don't think this car has ever seen a winter.


the interior is as close to perfect as a 1990 can get. it looks nearly new. the seats are great, the dash and carpet are essentially perfect. the passenger window is inop and the speedo is goofy at times, but i understand them to be easy and cheap repairs. moonroof and drivers window work fine.

the engine starts, idles, and runs great. it pulls strong and frankly has more power than i expected the car to have. it leaks no oil, and burns no oil.

the transmission shifts great, and the clutch is great as well.

suspension is tight, no creaks or clunks.

diff is in great shape, no noises. the car does need a rear wheel bearing as it gets noisy at speed.


i have no doubt that with very minimal investment, this car can be made very close to new.

it seems to be. looking at the undercarriage, engine compartment, and interior seem to validate this as well.

salvage title only affect resale, hence the lower price. insurance does not go up.

Something is up, there is no way that car has only 50k miles. The pedals are way too worn out, the front end looks like it has more than double if not triple the mileage. If I am wrong then I apologize, but a carfax will clear all.

not sure what you mean by "front end". are you talking about the front fascia? beacuse the suspension seems to be in great shape. as for the pedals, they are fine, just dirty.

the fellow i bought it from has had the car for some time, and had never gotten around to doing anything with it. he was in the process of restoring a couple other older bmw's and didn't have the time to do much with this one.

i get the impression that some of you folks think i'm trying to pull a fast one here, and i've gone out of my way to explain everything i know about the car. i'm not asking a ton of money for it, i'm not claiming it's perfect. it is what it is, and that is a fairly nice 1990 325is for the money. if you're interested in it, great. anyone local is free to stop by and take a look at it.

Thats really sweet I don't think I have ever seen an E30 with that low of miles except at a BMW meet. Wish I could sell my car quicker I need to sell my car for like 1k crashed it and trans is done for.

+1 I am sure I am not the only one here who got their money back from carfax, because a "carfax-clean" vehicle was not what it was supposed to be. Got my money back the next day !!!

hmmm... i said the undercarriage is so clean it doesn't look like it's seen any winters. seeing as how i've had this car for less than a year, i obviously cannot tell you if it's ever been in the snow.

If you believe the seller call your agent and ask. I was in the insurance for 2 years and am still a licensed adjuster.

Not only can you not get a loan on a car with a salvage title but good luck on getting insurance.....assuming you are upfront when applying for it, if you lie about it, if something happens you will get nothing and premiums have gone to waste.

Count on a salvage title car being worth 50% of a clean title car, assuming similar condition.

not true.... many insurance companies will insure a vehicle that has a repaired salvage title. they simply inspect the vehicle first. but if you're not sure, contact your insurance company to verify. don't take a couple of internet nobodies advice, your insurer will tell you their specific policy regarding salvage titled vehicles. (my family has been in the insurance business for 30+ yrs).
