View Full Version : Apexcone HID Install problems
I got my Apexcone HID kit (6k race) and am unsure as to where the connection go in the below picture. For some reason I think i received a wrong part or am missing a part.
Problems are marked in red.
An anyone with the kit does you ballast look like mine? There are no markings on it what so ever.
Thanks
E36M34life 01-14-2008, 12:39 AM Looks like your missing the harness that would connect the low beam harness on the headlights, to the ballast. Why dont you contact your seller, he should know, and should carry it. Maybe you had to ask for it, thats wy it didn't come in the kit.
nick325xit 5spd 01-14-2008, 12:40 AM The PnP harness doesn't know that you have an HID kit. Try plugging the ballast into the car's wiring harness instead of a dead plug that's the wrong gender.
Thanks guys, I had sent the vendor an email early yesterday and did not hear back. I need these installed by Monday so I posted here. I just now got an email from the vendor and showed him the problem. I await his feedback.
nick325xit 5spd 01-14-2008, 12:52 AM Dude. You don't need to hear back from the vendor. Unplug the plug from your low beam and plug it into the ballast. Done. It's really simple.
Anthony914 01-14-2008, 12:53 AM low beam plug goes into ballast, high beam plug goes into one of the plugs on the pNp
The PO of the car hacked up the wiring when he installed Euro headlights. Were is the plug located and what does it look like? I am wondering if the PO clipped it off.
nick325xit 5spd 01-14-2008, 01:12 AM Like the male version of what you've got there. If it doesn't fit in, the PO fucked you.

s1ick 01-14-2008, 06:27 PM Heres a picture. Only one of those plugs get plugged into wires from the car, the high beam. The low beam plug that was used before goes into the ballast. In my pictures, the black and grey plugs are the same as yours. Black gets plugged into the cars high beam. Now if you say the PO hacked the wires on teh car and you do not have the connectors in my pictures, then you should go get new ones and splice it.. Unless there is another alternative.

jskin1510 01-15-2008, 12:45 AM i have apexcones but my ballasts are black, with some silver letters. I think s1ick pretty much covered it.
Well, it turns out that the PO had hacked off the 9006 and 9005 connectors when he installed his Ellipsoids.
So today I picked up two low beam 9006 connectors, made a few wiring harness and cleaned up the mess he left behind. I have the passenger side done and will hopefully get to the drivers side tomorrow.
Gotta say the car looks damn mean with HIDs on one side and Halogens on the other ;) It's a huge difference and I haven't aimed them yet.
Thanks for all your help!
s1ick 01-15-2008, 02:09 AM Nice Looks like it will be a sweet cleanup. Post some pictures when your done as payment.
Braymond141 01-15-2008, 02:35 PM There was no need to cut up the harness on the headlights. You should of just fixed the cars harness.

I fixed it the same way you did in your pix. The butt connectors might be confusing you. The 9006 connector has two butt connectors that will be tapped into the low beams from the cars harness like you have in your second pic.
The only wires I cut was the female end (grey-low beams) on the PnP harness. That connection didn't have a male counterpart as the PO had removed that as well.
When I get some time I will post pix of the finale config.
ArizonaE36 01-15-2008, 07:50 PM Fix them right with solder and heat shrink tubing. Crimp connecors and rolls of electrical tape FTL
bman10 01-15-2008, 08:51 PM Does anybody have this kit in a 5k to show some pictures. I was thinking about getting a set myself.
Yeah, I should have soldered them, but I did heat shrink most of them to the butt connectors to keep them water tight. Maybe I will do them over again w/ solder and heat shrink
