View Full Version : Buying Bulbs From Ebay For My HID Kit, How Do I Know Which One Will Fit?
E36M34life 01-13-2008, 06:55 PM *Before you bash, I understand that Ebay USUALLY doesn't sell quality nor long lasting HID kits and bulbs, but my bulb burnt out and I need to buy a new set, I only need it to last a couple of months, so qaulity isn't so important. In a few months, I will be buying ellipsoids and a real HID kit like Prolumens, therefore I dont want to spend $80 dollars on "quality" bulbs since I will be getting rid of the kit later anyways.*
I know I need 9006 style bulbs, and I know I want 6000K color, but im confused as to wether all the HID bulbs fit all the different ballasts. On my current setup, the bulbs have to wires coming from them, one being a female and one being a male connector. Do all the HID bulbs come like that?
If someone could explain that for me , I would really appreciate it.
THANK YOU!
BMWALDO 01-13-2008, 07:08 PM Why not skip the iffys and save time by contacting Habbie @ Bavtoys.com and just ask him for his cheapest HID Bulb set. I know he has a budget HID set up, which means he prolly has a budget bulb set that would work well for you.

Yeah, I already talked to him and its about $85 plus shipping, when on ebay I can get a set for about $40 shipped, I know the qaulity is probably alot crappier, but like I said, I dont really care about that right now.

Alright. Well whatever kit you end up purchasing through ebay, just confirm with the ebayer that the connectors to the bulbs are going to match the connectors to your HIDs.
Best of luck on your ebay endeavor!
just hooked my ebay ones up today. whole h1 kit was $73 shipped - ballast bulbs wires etc.. dj auto's (also made in china) from bavtoys and these from ebay it was like 200 for new headlights with hid's. if you ask me, unless there an expensive name brand, anything under 300 or so is all the same chinese shit, some just with a better warranty. hell the name brand ones probly use ballast components from china, they make all the worlds tiny electronics lol

E36M34life 01-13-2008, 08:33 PM ^^Thanks for the info, but unfortunately none of it was answering anything I asked, but im glad you were happy with your kit!
But I will use your pictures as a reference if thats ok:
See on the bulb wiring harness how theres two wires leading from it, and on the end there is a male and female connectors, my question is do all HID bulb and ballast companies make the same connectors in terms of size and compatability? Thats what I really want to know.
I already ordered a set of bulbs from Ebay, I got the 9006 style 6000K color, the guy ships same day via USPS priority, and he has a 100% feedback.
But now im concerned wether he uses the same style connectors as the kit I have.
i know it didnt answer y our question, i was just trying to reassure you ebay isint always the worst crap, sometimes its just the same stuff you pay more for, with less warranty and support, less middle men, and no name brand on it like mine, the ballast is prety much a shiney box.
as for the connector, whats the big issue, its 2 wires. make new ones if they dont plug in. u can buy weather proof connectors wherever

Once again, I wasn't asking wether ebay had qaulity products or not, I was curious as to wether all HID kits use the same type of connectors.
However, Im not comfortable splicing or doing custom wiring with HID related wires in because alot of current travels through them, im assuming.

a lot of current is the understatement of the year... they conduct about 25k volts @ ignition splicing isn't a good idea.
being that you are now on your second set you already spent more then on a good set of bulbs with a warranty and support.
its always cheaper to buy quality product and do it right once from the get go.
good luck just the same.

Ok, so then splicing isn't a good idea, gotcha! Thanks for letting me know.
Oh, and even after buying a second set of bulbs, ive only spent about 100 bucks.

exactly, like i said, more then one good set.:)

once again, i was not answering a specific question you asked.
and there just normal wire and connectors, not some magical 1million dollar connectors for 1 billion volts
just posting that for other people that might be intersted or more of a diy'er. i dont care i didnt answer your question, sorry.
id your unsure of your splicing skills its probly best you dont

Ummm, I dont get it, more then 1 "Ebay " set? True, but far from more then one qaulity set of HIDs.

I gotcha man, its all good, sorry if I came off as a jerk. I see what you were trying to do now.
So your saying if the connectors were infact wrong, that you would splice into them? Im far from an expert, but splicing is pretty much common sense, and I can pretty much do a pretty nice clean job if I had to, but like I said, theres a lot of current flowing through those wires, and im afraid it would reduce the current getting to the bulbs, and harm them in terms of life. I may be completely wrong, but it sure sounds feasable.
E36M34life 01-14-2008, 12:07 AM Oh, by the way "7808", looks like you have the exact HID kit as me, an all chrome ballast housing, and the two blue and red wires from the bulbs. Do you happen to know what the manufacturer is?
e36cruiser 01-14-2008, 01:57 AM I had a bulb blow out on me just like you (got them from a friend and tried to retro-fit the wrong type of bulb in) anyways... I got replacment bulbs from ebay for the $40 like you said. Just type in "HID conversion replacement". Hope thats what you were looking for.

I really dont mean to sound like a complete ass or jerk, but honestly, does anyone ever read the posts before replying anymore? I understand your just trying to help, and believe me, I appreciate it, but you totally missed the point I was asking.
Know that I know you bought some bulbs from Ebay, can you please explain what kind of connectors came on yours, and if they were the right ones from your ballast. Thats mainly what im concerned about, wether the HID kits all use the same type of universal connectors.

Now knowing that, its funny how NONE of the sellers on ebay mentioned ANYTHING about the connectors they use on there replacement bulbs.
But how come last time I talked to you, and asked you to sell me replacement bulbs for my 9006 pnp kit, you said they were all the same. Are they all the same for the pnp kit, or what? Im confused.

in your pm you asked about fitment, "how do i know they will fit" and i simply replied that they all fit the same way, a 9006 is a 9006 whether halogen or hid.
now you've moved to connectors and connections.

Easy buddy... I said what I said thinking that I could skip the obvious... if I was posting what I did I would hope it was what you are looking for... a male and a female connector "the yellow mini shock boot looking things". These hooked right up to my ballasts with no problems... I'm diggin' mine.

So the bulbs your talking about, did they come with the HId kit you bought, or did you buy seperate bulbs as a replacement and those fit perfect.

I bought them seperatly from the ballasts... fit perfect. Comes with the leads to go from the bulbs to the ballast and also the leads to plug from the ballast to the stock wireing. You can see the leads in most auctions, just tell them your headlight bulb and the color you want, so what is it? 9006 bulb and for me I got 8000K brightness.
Heres some like what I got: http://img.auctiva.com/imgdata/4/3/5/0/2/6/webimg/76928749_tp.jpg
93bmw325is 01-15-2008, 12:32 PM my freind they are all the same only factory hid bulbs have a diffrent connector. the ones on ebay will work for you.
Mad Machine 01-15-2008, 01:33 PM I got 8000K brightness.
Some may be calling me picky.. but 8000K is not your brightness, but the colour temperature of the light. Your brightness is determined by the wattage of your capsules.. usually 35watts
i recently replaced my capsules as well in my fogs. Ebay can be good for stuff like that
