im stuck with the decision of what to do with my rear speakers. they are just gonna be rear fills. should i just go with 4inch? is there any way that i can fit 5 1/4 in the rears? i wanna try to run a component setup in the rear. or is 4inch coax good?

there are a few people that have the 5 1/4" seperates in the rear. i will also be putting them in.

I also contemplated this... only with 6.5's instead.

I don't think I want to go through the hassle of retrofitting larger speakers in the rear, especially since they're just for fill. I will likely go the 4" route, and leave the remaining space in the speaker opening to act as a port from the trunk into the cabin. Hopefully this will allow a little more bass through... as I don't have the ski hole opening.

Has anyone gone with 4" coaxials and know if this will work?

Have you considered 6x9's in back? Adapters made from MDF can be made pretty easily:

or purchased from:

I'd think that you need put the 4" speaker in an enclosure, rather than just leaving a gap for bass.

Thanks for the post Dfrost!

I'll probably look into the 6x9 fabricated mounts...

although the 4" inch speakers can also be mounted to the rear deck with a baffle enclosure, so that it's not sitting free-air.... and the remainder of the opening can still pass sound through into the cabin *I think*

6" or 6.5" will need the rear deck lid cut or some sort of mounting tricks to work (not easy at all and will require professional help). I have seen 5.25" without too much hassle. Or you can consider the JL Stealth Boxes and put 5.25" in the rear arm rest area. This requires less cutting than the deck lid and sounds better. I would just do 5.25" in the rear if you have already addressed bass (with a box for example). Good luck!

kevin - yeah thats why im waiting. so i dont have to put a car back together everytime. hey kevin i was thinking of just using aftermarket 4inchers. how well do mb quarts or any other aftermarket brand 4inch speakers fit in the stock locatin?

with the enclosure we discussed i think that any 4" driver you get will not be blocked at all by the opening in the deck and u will get what your looking for...
