Hi

1. Need new windshield. OEM vs aftermarket?
2. Car was sold in Sept 07, hasn't been driven since, battery needs jump always, but she runs oh so smoothly.
3. Want to get rid of integrated phone and a little knob to the left of the fog lights that I have no idea what it is for.
4. Scared to go to dealer for service ($$$$$)since there are no BMW independents in my area (SYracuse, NY)
5. Only have tape deck: would like to install CD, iPod, sat rad hookup
6. Should I install OEM nav or just use Garmin?

Any thoughts?

First off, Welcome to BF.C!

I answered a few of your questions. I hope this helps you a bit.

2. You might need a new battery or it's possible that the starting problem will go away with time. (As you drive and charge the battery)
3. The integrated phone is pretty much useless. +1 on getting rid of it. There might be a DIY somewhere, but you'll have to search. I have no idea what you're talking about pertaining to a "knob" by the fog light, though.
5. oem/aftermarket cd players should be fairly easy to install. For the iPod connection, you should go with the Dice SILVERLINE. http://www.bimmerfest.com/forums/showthread.php?t=254234 (I've heard that it still has some bugs to sort out.)
6. Garmin is going to be a lot cheaper. If you want to spend the extra to get OEM, be my guest, but I would go with a Garmin.

The oem nav sucks, and is very expensive, there is a garmin over at costco for 2 bills, it is also tranportable. OEM nav will be very expensive and might not be too connectible in your car. Windshields are always aftermarket, it will be around 400

I have an OEM Sirius satellite module that plugs into where a CD changer would go - works well, better reception than a friends FM modulator setup, no additional displays needed as it functions via the MID. I also have an iPod DICE unit which slaves into the satellite module - I expect that to work well once I get a functional unit (mine arrived DOA). Congrats on the new ride.

I just had an aftermarket windshield installed in my driveway for $275. I do not have rain sensors...
