bigm77 01-13-2008, 04:00 AM lol im from the land of idli and sambhar =)
wofton 01-13-2008, 09:51 AM Don't waste your money on an audio system. Save it for the repairs that are most likely coming your way. At that mileage lots of stuff can go bad quick.
viswanathmenon 01-13-2008, 10:42 AM thanks panipuri...does being a desi make a difference with these machines??
viswanathmenon 01-13-2008, 10:42 AM luckily I have taken an extended warranty on it..
ezbmr 01-13-2008, 11:09 AM Extended Warranty.....hahahahahahahaha
Black528i 01-13-2008, 11:11 AM Run from the warranty. Any company that is willing to warranty an E39 with that mileage will most likely call everything wear and tear. You got a great vehicle but you have to take care of her. I hope you had a PPI done first.
ezbmr 01-13-2008, 11:15 AM I bought my car with 59k on it and when it needed trust arm bushings, they were like, we don't cover that sort of thing. I said, but it says your warranty covers suspensions, they said, not your suspension, I said, didn't you know the car you were warranting?
Common Issues: Eventually all of your plastic bits will go bad: Bushings, Tires, Hoses, Belts. Did you get an inspection, did you know the person you were buying it from, if you did you could say something like I can down below. I didn't know the owner, but I know what is in her now.
Here are some words you should learn:
Bilstein
Meyle
Zimmerman
Akebono
Amsoil
Behr (Filters that is)
Black528i 01-13-2008, 03:57 PM Don't forget Zionsville.
kingamr 01-13-2008, 04:00 PM welcome to the forum and good choice on the car

viswanathmenon 01-13-2008, 08:45 PM what an encouragement from fellow bimmers..good..but no one seemed to help me out with me Q's... lemme know...
Shardul 01-13-2008, 08:50 PM weakest link in the e39 chassis is the cooling system. radiator is prone to cracking. get the cooling system overhauled.
with 133k miles = new suspension/control arm bushing. you may want to replace the shocks if they have not been done already.
check spark plugs and see if they need replacement.
these are some of the things that come to mind.
540IForMe 01-13-2008, 09:00 PM Common Issues: Eventually all of your plastic bits will go bad: Bushings, Tires, Hoses, Belts.
I suggest you replace your plastic tires, hoses, bushings, and belts with rubber however.
:lol
viswanathmenon 01-13-2008, 09:09 PM thankssss....let me know how much approx it will cost to replace new suspension/control arm bushing and the plastic parts you mentioned..

gumbi4u 01-14-2008, 12:07 AM Dude welcome to the boards. Nice to have you but you need to start reading more. Searching more. Everything you seek has been answered. Start with the faqs and read till your eyes bleed. If you have a trouble reading, sell the car and get a honda....trust me! Pretty much sums up how you got con'd into getting an extended warranty on that car.
FP5241 01-14-2008, 12:12 AM Tell us how you really feel gumbs...

Read all the FAQs at the top of the forum, follow the links, read them. Then read all of the sticky threads at the top.
We are trying to help you, but everyone comes here and asks "what are the common problems on a 5xx w/ xxx miles on it". After answering a hundred or so such posts, it is a lot better to use the FAQs. After you have read everything, if you have more questions, try the SEARCH feature, if you really can't find something, THEN you post a question. No one is trying to be rude, that's just normal protocol on the forum.
BTW: Congratulations on the car, and welcome.

ezbmr 01-14-2008, 06:43 PM Makes me wish I took pics of my cracked control arm bushings before I had my installer chuck them out. Did you get this car inspected??? I didn't, it is costing me now

viswanathmenon 01-22-2008, 01:08 AM it may sound as another stupid question....again inexperience......While driving back home last week in little snow mine was going all over the place....saw somebody discussing about ASC/DSC.. can someone let me know whether I should hit the switch while driving in those condidionts..
Thanks
vish
xxpanipuri 01-22-2008, 01:52 AM you can hit the switch in those conditions if you like....but u might end up in a ditch or worse!!
by default the dsc/asc system is turned on each time you turn on your car.
in inclement weather i'd suggest leaving it on....
