I haven't driven my M since November, other than the occasional trip to a store or something.... but it was nice out yesterday so i took it for a spin to get the fluids running again and give it a wash.

The clutch feels weird. It's hard to describe it. It still grabs fine, there's no slipping or any noises.

The best way i can describe it is that it feels like i went from a stage 4 clutch (assume stock) to a stage2 clutch.

the pedal just feels easier.

anyone else ever notice this?

at first I thought it was just the butt dyno and lack of driving recently, but my truck is an automatic, so its not like i'm used to a different clutch...

a buddy suggested a spring on the pedal got stretched or broke, or a spring on the clutch disc itself might be shot.

anyone have any suggestions before i take it to the dealer for service (or, to trade it on a 135i :X )

the only thing that determines pedal feel is the pressure plate itself (that's assuming you don't have any air in the lines, and a proper working master and slave cylinder.

could you be imagining it? M3's factory clutch isn't that stiff

check the pressure plate

I've had air in the lines in my civic before, and i know the spongy feel of that... that's not it. it's completely smooth as it used to be, its just easier.

if the master or slave was going, i would think that on a quick shift, i would grind, or have unpredictable results of engagement, and that's not the case either.

i'm pretty stumped.

check the pressure plate

easier said than done... dropping the tranny is pretty much worse case scenario IMO and if it comes to that, its going to the dealer.

On my e36 m3 - I had exactly this happen, then my clutch master broke. I don't see how or if it was related to the pedal suddenly getting softer...it was soft for about a month before something plastic finally went "snap". But I imagine a rubber bushing finally distorted from lack of lube (making pushing the clutch easier), which led to more stress on the other plastic clutch parts...

Here's the layout of the e36 mcoupe setup, I imagine the e46 is similar.
