View Full Version : Smoked Tail lights. which onesto get?
DirtOval 01-12-2008, 10:58 PM I installed the smoked tail lights I received from ModBargains this week and well... They don't work. :mad So, my question is to the people that have smoked tail lights is from which vendor did you purchase them from and are they at least constructed well.

giving the type of tails you bought as well as the year and model car might help if you'd like to get some suggestions.
LuvMy328is 01-13-2008, 12:50 AM I'm guessing it's on the '99 323 since the E30 tails aren't a very popular swap. What about them isn't working?

haha Props to you for reading. :)
The tails are the non LED Smoked tail lights.
After installing them I get a brake light circuit failure in which i Don't have any brake lights. The problem lies within the passenger side tail light. If I disconnect it and put the stock one back on my brake lights work fine.
jskin1510 01-15-2008, 12:48 AM i get the brake light circuit message sometimes but my brake lights still work when that happens. I have red/clear tails off ebay and they work great and i don't think the brake light circit message has anything to do with my tails

exactly, its the brake switch thats bad.
McDani3coupe 01-15-2008, 01:52 AM not necessarily, I had the same problem with some smoked tailights I got off ebay...when I remote started the car the lights would come on...but once I got in the car and pressed the brakes the drivers side running light would go out...the whole time the brake failure message was on the obc. If what I described is what's going on then you need to et a new set of tails...although modbargains would be a site that I would recommend so I would check with habbie or contact don@modbargains and see if you can trade em in or get a deal on another set.
NollieStylz 01-15-2008, 05:24 AM Whichever ones you decide to go with, stay away from the brand LUCID. I'm not sure if it's an actual brand like DEPO or ZKW but I bought my smoked tails and that's the stamp they have on them. Anyway, they leak all sorts of moisture, bought via BavAuto.
jr1966 01-17-2008, 07:30 PM I got my all-smoked tails from abrahamsmotorsport. The brand is TYC. Having had a couple of Depos (including an all-smoked one), I can definitely say the quality is a lot better. It has the OEM design and can take both the OEM and aftermarket (Depo, in my case) bulb sockets and wiring harness. The only thing is that there is an amber bulb cover on the signal light. Therefore, can't go to an all-clear set-up with stealth bulbs. I had to switch back to amber bulbs with the egg yolk look in my front corners and sidemarkers to match the tails. But the quality and the overall look of the TYC tails are a better compromise than the stealth look of the bulbs with lower quality Depos that doesn't look a bit OEM.

My brake light check does the same thing but lights are on...
