I'm looking to trade up from my E36 sedan to an E46. I've heard that prior to 2003 there were problems with the engine. I've done the search for the valve adjustment and read about that, but didn't see anything in particular about the earlier models. Is there anything in particular that I should look for on a 2002 or prior M3?

There were two recalls on the motor. Just check if it had the bearing recall and you are fine. Its the same engine throughout the years.

Duplicolor charcoal grey metallic. Just got a new computer, all my old pictures haven't been resotred yet, I'll have to post a close up in a few days when I get everything set up
