Has anyone every placed the aibox for the engine where the HVAC intake used to be? (Assuming you've removed the HVAC)

This is shown to be a high pressure area when looking at CFD models of most passenger vehicles. In fact, the pressure seen that the center of the windshield base appears to be equal to the pressure seen across the leading edge of the front bumper.(Where most intakes source their air from)

Why would I consider this?

I may have some packaging issues at the front of the engine where an air intake normally resides.

I would think it OK, as long as you have a heat shielded air box and wrap up the intake with heat shield also.

This was done on some world challenge cars, and on many thousands of american muscle cars :) Its basically a form of Cowl induction.

Let me try to track down a picture, I think I remember Billy Revis having it.

Whats your engine setup though? I don't think you'll benefit from it, to be honest, but its worth a fun afternoon project.

I think you are better off taking the intake straight the headlight. Less restriction, and if you use an inline filter (RRT has a PRM I got for Watts for sale super cheap if you want it), you can port it to a small duct in the headlight. It'll produce some drag, but its manageable.

Thanks Steve, but I need to keep my headlight.

Pics appreciated...

You can keep your headlight, just drill a 4" hole in it and run it right into the intake.

Still just a concept right now, but it would be insulated.

Steve,

I need, and want the headlight. It needs to be street legal.
