View Full Version : Where are all the events for '08?
robertm 01-11-2008, 04:20 PM Right now besides the two events we're doing in Dallas there is nothing else closer than Barber next year (700mi) and those are combo events with PBOC.
Is no one planning on doing anything at Hallett, TWS, MSR Houston?
Is there ever going to be another Heartland Park race?
If someone ever put on an event at No Problem Raceway in Louisiana I'd run it.
Also how come nothing up for RA in '08??
I guess its still early but I've got to plan out where I'm going to blow up the motor, grenade a pressure plate (or two), lose a diff, bust a radiator, etc etc:D
gobuffs 01-11-2008, 04:34 PM Putnam Park in Louisianna? LOL. You are thinking of No Problems Raceway. Putnam is near Indy. :-)
B.Watts 01-11-2008, 04:35 PM Just like every season around this time, dates are still being confirmed.

Dohh you're right. As far as I know we've never had a club race there. I've always wanted to try it just cause its another reasonably close track.
Greg S 01-11-2008, 04:54 PM I heard there are going to be two races at TWS this year.

PCA has had a race or 2 there. I have heard it is nothing to write home about.
I heard there are going to be two races at TWS this year.
From who?
Anybody have an idea of the longer enduro that Akard was talking about?
robertm 01-11-2008, 05:03 PM I heard there are going to be two races at TWS this year.
That would be awesome. Its been a long time since I've raced there. '07 I had wedding crap and the year before that I went down in a cloud of smoke on the front straight on the 3rdish lap..
You e36 and now e46 JP guys will be tough there. It def. favors high hp cars.
Dam just talking about racing there again is getting me all hot and bothered :alright
UDM Motorsport 01-11-2008, 05:26 PM think there'll be a few NASA races at MSRH.
One Feb 9-10 but ur cage wont be ready then.
Greg's the one with high hp...i'll be happy with 220

I think Matt G. and the Houston guys were trying to put something together for a couple of TWS races. We discussed piggybacking the race with an MSC DE if the national office would sanction it.
NASA is doing a 4 hour enduro in April at TWS fwiw.
iflytii 01-11-2008, 06:13 PM Trying to put something together at Hallett this year. Tentatively shooting for Memorial day weekend again.

I am planning on coming down for that race just to check it out. Actually hoping to drop of the car then drive over to Houston and check it out. I still have some reservations racing w/Nasa so I want to see a race first. Assuming all looks good I plan on doing the circuit or at least some of it this year. Hopefully there will be a few more cars in GTS2(edit) this year to compete with.

4hr enduro would be awesome. I'd definitely be up for co-drive/pay that race. No way my car could make it though...

Hallett is one of my favorite tracks. I love the track, the owners and the great times there. Its a small track but it just has so much character. I can tell you for sure though that 3-4 of us Dallas guys won't be able to race if its Memorial weekend. One of our good buddies is getting married that weekend. So,unless he gets cold feet we won't be able to make it. Any other good weekends? Maybe PM me and we can discuss offline if ya want.

We can surely find a weekend that will work best for everyone. I'll shoot you a PM when we get some more info from Connie on available dates.

Heh, I'm right at about 220whp too, except I have to weight 3154. It seems like no one makes a really aggressive cam for this motor so it doesn't seem worth while to me. Just software, headers, and an intake...
Hopefully there will be a few more cars in GT2 this year to compete with.
I plan to race GTS2 eventually, it'll be several months though.
dallas02E39 01-11-2008, 08:17 PM NASA makes the most sense for those of us in the Dallas area. BMWCCA only has 2 races within a reasonable distance.
NASA Texas Schedule;
February 9-10 MSR Houston
March 15-16 MSR Cresson
April 19-20 Texas World Speedway 2.9 Counter Clockwise w/ 4 hour Enduro
April 25-27 Grand Prix of Houston Sanctioned by NASA Texas (charity race)
June 21-22 Hallet
August 2-3 Texas World Speedway 2.9 Clockwise
October 11-12 Eagles Canyon
UDM Motorsport 01-11-2008, 08:52 PM that's awesome we have a few GTS2 racers.
Schrick doesnt make a cam for the 330?
SG_M3 01-11-2008, 09:10 PM See you guys at the NASA races this year

They do, but it's not very aggressive.

Hello Bob, did you mean "No Problem Raceway"? I sure would like to see a joint Texas/Louisiana race at NPR.
It is a fun & technical 1.8 mile track with 14 turns. It is the track I first raced at.
Call me if you think we could get an event scheduled there this year.
Regards,
Steve

Best bet it to contact the New Orleans BMW CCA chapter to get them to put on a DE and race. Unless the Houston chapter is willing to put one on there (dobutful as it sounds like they might have an event or 2 up their sleeves).

I know it's huge, but. It's the race schedule that GrandBayou will be running at NPR.
scottn2retro 01-13-2008, 10:15 PM I think you guys in Texas should come try some of the tracks out here in the Pacific region (Laguna Seca, Sear's Point, Cal Speedway, PIR, etc.) :)

Hey Steve, I'd love to do an event there but I don't have any interest in putting together a 3rd race in '08. IF someone else is interested I am more than happy to offer technical assistance and/or be a sounding board though.

My Range Rover won't win! It is supercharged, but it rolls too much. Can't keep the R compunds underneath it...
MCain 01-14-2008, 09:32 AM Would love to co-drive with someone for this event!!
Talk about bad timing. I just lined up a couple of co-drivers this weekend, otherwise I'd have been happy to have you in my car.
I think DD might be planning to run it in his car. He loves long races.
I'm working on Matt G. That lightweight is a pretty nice car.
For the NASA Grand Prix of Houston race, is there any actual racing for the normal NASA classes? I would of thought not, but since it's on all their schedules as a 'charity race' I wasn't really sure what that meant.
MCain 01-14-2008, 09:55 AM tfro, I'm not positive how it works. I think Matt G. had a car in it last year. I know the entry fee is an order of magnitude or two higher than a normal race, though it is for a good cause. I think it's kind of a 'run what you brung' thing.
That makes sense. I doubt the driver of my car would be ready by then anyways, but running on a street course could be a fun experience.
Are you going to the Feb MSR-H event? I'm setting that as a target event to have my car ready.
MCain 01-14-2008, 10:32 AM I'll be there for sure.

Hello Bob,
There is a good video of the Mini vs a Covette in one of the 90 min, enduros I did at NPR. One of the best times I ever had there.
Go to the Mini-Madness website and look for: "1st half enduro" Mini vs Corvette.

Steve

Any idea on the RA date normally in Sept? (secretly hoping it's the week before O-fest so we can make a road trip out of both events)
Feffman 01-15-2008, 08:54 AM You guys are welcome to run with us in 2008. May be a bit of a drive, but what better reason then to play on a race track. Our 2008 track days (so far) are as follows:
April 21 - Putnam Park (Near Indianapolis) [Tax Freedom Track Day]
May 9 - Summit Point (West Virgiania) [Private Corporate Event]
June 2 - Autobahn Country Club (Near Joliet, IL.)
August 18 - Autobahn Country Club
September 13 & 14 - Blackhawk Farms (Near Beloit, WI) [Our 1st Weekend Event]
Both Autobhan dates are once again the entire 3.56 mile road course. None of this namby-pamby 1/2 track stuff. We will be announcing at least one more track day or weekend for 2008 soon.
Registration with Pay Pal, credit card or via downloadable form (mail in check) is available at:

Happy Motoring and I'll see you at the track!

It is up on the Peachtree website. Sept 19-21....aka the weekend before Ofest.

Are you planning to take a ton of time off, or storing your truck/trailer somewhere and flying home for the week?

Did you see my email to the DFW list yesterday? Are you on that list anymore?
gobuffs 01-15-2008, 12:45 PM Are you planning to take a ton of time off, or storing your truck/trailer somewhere and flying home for the week?
Figure leave Thursday for Atlanta. Drive Fri-Sun. Drive to Watkins (850 miles- could be done in a long day) on Mon (+Tues?). Ofest track events are Wed-Sun. When would you fit in a flight to and from Dallas? If there was a weekend between, I can see it.
The difference in miles from DFW is around 200-250 (200 for the east side of Dallas, 250 for FW) going DFW-Atlanta-Watkins-DFW versus round trip to Watkins. IOW, no significant difference IMO. You will need to extra days off work (Thursday and Friday before to make Atlanta). So for RA and Ofest I woudl leave on Thursday the 18th and return on Tuesday the 30th. Otherwise leave Sunday the 21st or Monday the 22nd.
Honestly, I didn't look at the dates yet. I thought the WG was shifted back for some reason. I like how you've got it planned out. Find a 4 car stacker yet?

No...you?
I am leaning heavily towards this plan at this point in time. If I am going to go, might as well go BIG and add Road Atlanta to the mix. Just have to save up the money for it (which means, the only track time I will get before this is member days at ECR to get the car sorted).
robertm 01-15-2008, 01:32 PM I've been thinking exactly what you stated Bruce. Its only a couple hundred more miles to do RA and WG vs WG only. My plan is to leave Thursday before RA, race RA, then take my time getting up to WG, then racing O-fest weekend. I might even do some camping/fishing or whatever in between the two events.
IF the car doesn't make it past RA then I just turn around and head back to Dallas.
Right now I am just praying gas comes down a bit. For my gas mileage, every $0.25 gas comes down saves me $100 on the trip. At $3.00/gal I'm looking at $1065 just in gas :eyecrazy
I actually brought this idea up last month but no one seemed interested:

On it but can only check from the house (which I probably only do once every week). What's going on? PM/email me?

Nothing...I posted pretty much the same thing as I did here and the silence is deafening.
I saw your post last month and figured there is no way (since I was not really sure I was going to go to Ofest), but looking at it more and realizing the mileage is not that significantly different and only requires and extra 2 days off work...not so crazy. I think the CR school at Watkins would be fun, but man it is a lot of time.
Mark wants to go to Ofest. Not sure he can take the time to go to RA and Ofest.
B.Watts 01-15-2008, 01:56 PM Road Atlanta and O'fest will be a blast. There are quite a few BMW race, body, and fab shops between Atlanta and Watkins, so don't let the worry of something going wrong at Road Atlanta before O'fest keep you from deciding to do both.
No...you?

Nope.
Sean and I were talking about doing something like this or trying to go to Mid-O for NASA with a borrowed 2 car trailer. Who knows, it's all pretty far away.

It'll be here before you know it. If i have to I will tow with my truck and trailer. I might have to camp out in the truck and use the track showers. :-)

That's my plan. Well camp out in the trailer or tent outside. Will save another $600-700 staying at the track vs hotels. Going to try to do the trip for around $2000 total not including pre-event expenses. It will be a stretch but we'll see. Oh wait, I didn't include beer. Make that $3k total :D
Feffman 07-05-2008, 08:18 AM Hi All:

Hey Bob,
I'll get in touch with Brian Kemp who runs the events at NPR. I'm sure we could work a CCA race in with the other race groups during one of the "Grand Bayou" races. I also would like to race at MSR Houston, probably the closest track outside of Louisiana.
I'll let you know what I can find out about NPR.
Thanks for the offer to run it, I'll be glad to help.
Regards,
Steve

pretty sure that is NOT what he meant....."run it" meaning "I'll race it" not organize it.
