Nice, very nice. My brother in law has a current M6 (carbon roof and 500 hp) with SMG tranny. He let me drive on our local twisty backroads, incredible handling and power, it was as fast as a modern sport bike but felt much safer at the same speeds especially while cornering. A car with this potential for speed is a serious risk to keeping one's license.

Is this the car your bringing to SESF?

When are you heading down for that anyway, our routes might end up crossing at some point.

I was wondering about these cars in relation to the new 6ers. Do the current 5 and 6 series utilize the same platform, as with the E24 and E28? If so, understanding that there is an obvious difference between the M and non-M suspension, how does the handling feel next to each other? You'll have to excuse my complete lack of knowledge of these cars haha. But i know you dont mind talking about them!

Fantastic buy, looks great in white too!

I am leaving early in the week to have a few runs at the ToD, see link and a number of folks joining us. You're welcome to join us if you like... I plan to leave NJ on the 23rd. http://knightsoftheroundel.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=38&t=783

The New 6ers & 5ers do share the same platform and as you notes in the past, so it will be in 2011-12 with the introduction of the F (No longer E) platform (unit) names will be used for BMW. This ought to be a lot of fun!

Now the M's too share similar platforms but many of their underpinnings are exclusively M make a world of a difference. Besides the major engine difference (V10, 500HP, 383 lb./ft of torque) versus (I6tt, 300HP, 300 lb./ft of torque or the V8, 360HP, 360 lb./ft of torque).

Check out this write-up I put together on the M's, It's in three parts:

http://knightsoftheroundel.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=13&t=301&st=0&sk=t&sd=a&start=10#p4829
http://knightsoftheroundel.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=13&t=301&st=0&sk=t&sd=a&start=20#p4834
http://knightsoftheroundel.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=13&t=301&st=0&sk=t&sd=a&start=20#p4849

Now, the standard 5er is softer and less aggressive than the highly tuned M's. It still performs well but it ain't no M!

Fantastic buy, looks great in white too!

Awesome car. It looks really nice in white. Here are my videos hitting 150MPH in the second video. Dont discount the 535xi also. with those twin turbo and a chip mod, it van produce more the 400 Ft lb of torque. It will still be behind the M but real close.

Awesome combo....

Now all you need is to replace your 6 w/ M6 and your 7 w/ B7 :D

535xibimmer:
Don't push your luck :D
You need a lot more than chip to even get 535xi closer to M5. Even the lighter 335i needs chip, FMIC, full exhaust, etc. etc. etc. And it's still on par w/ M5.

Thanks. I really like it, the Alpine White really works for me.:D I'll check out the videos.

Oh, and the 535xi is nice but in all seriousness, at 400HP mode you may see but once I press the M button @ 500HP 383ft/lb. of torque (Stock), it's bye, bye 535xi.:D

Trust me, I respect BMWs entire fleet, in fact I've owned mostly all of them, so I for one know their potential.

I thought of doing just that, replace the 650i with M6 cabrio, add the M5 and get the new M3... But my strategy has changed a bit, I'll be sure to keep you'll (All) posted.:D

I have addressed the 535xi comment too.:evil2

Not sure yet but I have been looking...

Air flow system upgrade
carbon fibre parts (Replace & add)
20" wheels and rims
Pulley

No need for an exhaust upgrade, I love the current sound.

RacePrecision scoops and BMC filters for power, or K&N Typhoon for sound (and reduction in power as well as CEL)

RacePrecision pulley for the lightest, hard coat anodized, correct belt fitting, and OEM color. Other more expensive models available too that are slightly heavier, different than OEM color, logo visible, larger belts, and normal anodizing.

:)

Watch the weight of the wheels you are considering. It is not hard to lose a bit of performance in making this switch (although the difference likely would not be noticeable in every day driving). For appearance, my favorite remains the Radenergie R10.

What do yo have and their weight? Also what is your width and depth? Example: 9x10F 10x11R

Thanks. I am considering the RPIs scoops and pulley. What are you thoughts on the scoops? Are there any down sides? I am looking for the lightest materials to upgrade...

The scoops are extremely light, only an ounce or two.

The drawback is they don't change the induction noise.

They're 28.xx lb front (20" x 9") and 30.xx lb rear (20" x 11") in according to one of the owners. I'm not 100% positive of the offsets.

Well... I have the 2008 M5 and 750Li. I just sold the 650i and I am looking to pick up the 2008 M3 this April.

So the count is now two but soon to be three.

I miss my 650i cabrio though...

You coming to the SESF this year? I am bringing the M5 this time. Some of my old friends from the SESF will be surprised... Namely, Nat's Dad!
