Hopefully it will fix my horrible noise (sound needs to be turned up a lot)

I have a sound clip that is a lot clearer, but have no clue where to upload it to. Hopefully the sound will be gone by tonight when I get off of work. (Thank you for letting me borrow the tools Rafa).

I just did the same thing yesterday thanks to Dr. Vanos.

Car feels great and my minor noise (only heard ~3k rpms and it was hard to hear unless i was in the engine bay) went away completely.

Just listened to the sound clip... WOW. I don't think I've heard one that bad before. Let's hope it's just the vanos making the noise and that the Stage II kit takes care of the problem!

I'll try to upload the sound clips when I get a chance.

I've heard Joey's car in person and it's freakishly loud. I thought you already did the Dr. Vanos thing, Joey?

Matt's car is the same way. Joey, if you're willing to, will you pull the cover off the DR. Vanos unit and take a couple pictures?? I'm very, very curious as to what is done to these to make them better than stock replacement. Specifically a picture of the whole thing, and as clear as you can close-up of the vanes.

I want to but I'm scared as hell to do it in fear of breaking something or just in general my bad luck. To tell you the truth it is cheaper to go with the stg 2 kit than buy a rebuilt Vanos from BMW with a discount (I paid $350).

There is nothing to a vanos besides the bolts that hold the cover on. I've had a couple apart before, there's no gasket, it's a metal-metal mating surface. What would be REALLY nice is a comparison pic before-after of your old vs. new vanos on the inside.

Perhaps take your old vanos apart before installing the dr. vanos unit to see whats insane, and see if you're willing to remove the cover from the dr. vanos unit?

I did mine on Tuesday, it was a piece of cake and only took about 2 hours. I also replaced the upper chain tensioner (I think thats what was causing my noise). My Vanos did wobble around a bit though, I'm glad I replaced that too : )

+2 on seeing the inside. They cannot be doing much to them.

I know what they look like inside, I'm still just really not wanting to mess with it for fear of something going wrong. Also I've taken apart my VANOS unit before when it had the noise and the only thing that looked to be worn is the gear part it wobbled a lot, so did the refurbished one from BMW. The Dr. VANOS one is moved very little. This is where I think the noise curing part is. I would really like to take it apart, but my conscience tells me not to so I'm gonna have to listen to it.

I am the happiest kid alive. All noise from the VANOS region is gone finally after 2 years and god knows how much money. I would get some sound clips but my parents are sleeping and would kill me if they woke up. It will be the first thing on my stuff to do tomorrow.

Chris I just sent you an email with the new sound. It is not perfect as I'm still getting sound from the alternator, but all of the noise from the VANOS is gone. Thanks again.

I'll be ordering a Dr. Vanos unit shortly...

You'd think I had a Duramax under the hood!
