Does anyone know how much it cost to ship a set of CSL wheels with tires from UK to California? I won a set on eBay and the seller said they are asking for $1k to ship it here.

I got a quote from Germany-USA for under $200 to ship 4 wheels. Not insured. Call DHL. GH

I paid $180 for mine.

Ask to see your seller's shipping quotes and description of shipping method. Sounds like a shady EBay-seller making additional profit on "shipping & handling".

Thank you everyone for your feedback. I should of asked before bidding. Lesson learned.

A lot of sellers do that because e-bay takes their cut on the sell price, not the S&H.
The seller should have noted S&H conditions though.

I've had the same thing on a lesser scale. It's no great "win" to get a $75 shirt for $45 when you have to pay $12-$15 in S&H to get it. I'd check to see if the blatantly exorbitant shipping charges were spelled out, due to the outrageous dollar figure quoted, (if the charges can be legally deemed to be "material", you may have some standing with this approach) and then contact the eBay "Help" department for an assist and then PayPal, if you were fortunate enough to have used that service to pay through.

As always, this is the kind of stuff to have a grip on beforehand, but for all we know, it's an outright scam, with the huge backloaded dollars there to chill you out of the deal after guaranteeing or outright making payment for the product. It would be interesting to see if they contact you with a "deal" to let you out of the purchase for some kind of re-stocking fee.

Caveat Emptor applies threefold on eBay!
