View Full Version : center link again
ceedee 01-09-2008, 10:20 PM i got my parts car... and the engine is out of the bay
so working on the center link is a jiffy i got it out in 20 min
but now it's getting tricky.
in the other car is the engine in... is there a writeup on how to get the center link and tie ends off? i tried the search but most was about the shimmy and how to fix it.
thx guys (and girls)
Binjammin 01-09-2008, 11:17 PM Sorry dude, I'm not understanding you, you got the center link off one car, but don't understand how to get it off the other car?

Looks like it, yes. Since he had the engine out of the parts car it was easy, but he's looking for some sort of method to get it off when the engine is in.
ceedee 01-10-2008, 12:06 AM yes, to what moonspoon said... the right side centerlink got a shield above the 17mm nut.
i was using a puller instead of a fork to not damage the replacement part. but it's pretty tight under the car car where the new link goes in. since the engine is in place
was wondering if there is a trick to do it.
or a write up.
the end links should be easy since the nut points downwards. the driver side will be a bit more hassle , but i think i can get there with some extensions. but the passenger side centerlink bolt will be tricky , it's pointing upward, with no room for my puller and prolly not even enough for a socket wrench.
Binjammin 01-10-2008, 12:08 AM Ahhhh, gotcha.

Check here, it's pretty much the same thing. Loosen nuts, smash with hammer. It'll just pop out when you get it right, usually doesn't take me more than a whack or two, REALLY stuck suspension parts might take a few hits, haven't had too many that didn't reply to this method.

Dude... remove the shield. It's like 3 or 4 10mm bolts.

Yep, now you know for tomorrow when the sun comes up :) It's a piece of cake to pull the shield IIRC, there may be one bolt left you can't find, but just wiggle it and it'll make itself known.
What happened to the engine you took out? M20?
