View Full Version : 128i vs 135i handling
cemimms 01-09-2008, 10:09 PM Okay, so we all know that off the line there won't be a contest as to which car is quicker, but what about handling?
With the sport package suspension upgrade on the 128i, shouldn't these cars handle exactly the same? I don't see any reason why they wouldn't, but I wanted to hear others input on it.
Mitch 01-09-2008, 11:14 PM I think the 135i had a slightly more rearward weight distribution, which would give the car better feel.

very possible, but i also think i remember somewhere reading that the 128i is lighter up front due to the N52 being lighter than the N54 because of the absence of turbo chargers and being made of lightweight composite magnesium and aluminum.

bmwretard 01-10-2008, 12:07 AM They'll feel almost exactly the same, but different.
allsystemsgo 01-10-2008, 12:11 AM makes sense the 128i would be lighter with the N52, according to the site the 128 has closer to 50/50 distribution, does that mean it'll handle better? although I'm sure both car's we'll handle excellently with maybe slight differences at most
128i - 49.2/50.8
(manual transmission)
135i - 47.7/52.3
(manual transmission)

:lol Precisely
obnoxious2 01-13-2008, 01:00 AM Is there a big difference between the n52 and n54 other than the fact that the n54 is twin turboed?
Like say if I wanted to turbo a n52 later down the road, it should be just as strong as the n54 to be able to withstand the extra power?
allsystemsgo 01-13-2008, 11:53 PM i think the n54 is all aluminum block, n52 aluminum/magnesium, n54 doesn't have valvtronic but does have HPI, but yea the n54 is pretty much just twin turbo n52, so id assume adding turbos to it would yield the same power, personally id rather have the NA n52 and upgrade intake/ecu like the n52 in the 330i

I've thought the exact same, coming out of a 318i I'm sure that would seem pretty fast.

Not exactly. The N54 is pretty much a turbo M54, the precursor of the N52. It would be cheaper to sell the 128i down the road and buy a 135i.
