i don't know much about these cars. to me at least, they are rare. i was just wondering what the specs were for the stock model. better than the three series? an m3?

sweet i guess i get to answer this first.

The one series is going to offer the same N52/N54 offered in the current 3 series lineup (and part of the five series lineup).

The 128 will offer the 3.0 L inline 6 N52 with 230 HP.
The 135 will offer the 3.0 L inline 6 twin turbo N54 with 300 HP and 300 lb foot torque from something like 1400 through 5000 RPM.

There are lots of threads with more info on these engines if you want more.....

As far as better than M3, that is a very good question, with many very different answers. Research it on your own and you'll have to decide because they are all very great engines it just depends on exactly what you want. However any M engine is going to drink gas like crazy.

i understand what your saying. but don't the m3's run on 3.2L inline 6?

the last generation e46 M3 does, its a 3.2 L I6 and its basically on steroids .....they just have that motor so tweaked to produce all that power (333 HP), so it takes alot of gas, and it revs high too (8000 RPMs, 8400 for the new v8 4.0 L) which adds to the poor gas mileage.

Still it is an amazing engine and deserves all the respect it gets., however the 135i will likely put up slightly quicker 0-60 times than the e46 M3, even in stock form.

yup a v8. supposedly it doesnt lag like a typical 'american muscle' type v8, however. only bmw could make a v8 feel like a v6, but with the power of a v8 :)

gas mileage FTL though, i've heard values in the single digits.

You know BMW does have a website right? And the 1 series has been out in Europe for over a year now.

That's only during test drives during which the drivers ragged on the car. My car averages 26mpg but on tanks where I rag on it I get 16mpg or less.

In the USA, we are only going to get the 128i (fuel injected 3.0 liter DOHC I6) and the 135i with twin turbos on the same engine. Once BMW starts importing its diesel models into the USA, we should see the 123d (turbocharged 2.0 liter four). If BMW needs higher CAFE numbers to meet Federal numbers, we might see the 120i with a turbocharged 2.0 DOHC four.

Europeans have a wider choice of engines, gas and diesel, especially four cylinder ones.

I drove an E92 M3 demonstrator just before the new year, those things have so much fcuking kick it's not funny!

An e46 m3 averages 6-9 MPG on the track. And the avg mpg it was listed at was about 20-25 I believe. The new m3 is rated between 13-19 MPG, so expect single digits when you rag on the car.

rofl.

high rpm motors do not correlate to poor gas mileage. lol

gsr's rev to 8k and get 35+ mpg all the time...[/quote]
