Anyone have any recommendations for tires for the E34?

I realize that there is a tire forum, but I can get recommendations for tires from tirerack or any other tire site. However while reading the reviews on the site, very few of the cars are similar or are in fact E34's. So I want specific opinions for tires for the E34 5 series.

Im looking at spending about $400-$450 for the set, mounting and balancing not necessarily included. Im looking for a decently stiff tire what will last, in something around 205/60/15 or thereabout. SO PLEASE help me out.

Or if this really should be in the tire section, could a mod move for me?

Thanks,

Marcus

205/60/15 isn't a standards size.

It's 205/65/15 or you can go a bit wider and go for 225/60/15.

That said, I did run 205/60 when I had my 525.

Of the cheaper ties: Fuzion HRi is decent but noisy; Kumho ASX is pretty damn good for 50ish/pop.

Medium price range: Yokohama AVID H4s and BFGoodrich Traction T/A H(the BFGs have sidewalls that are on the soft side, but are a very good tire; haven't driven on the v-rated version; I am assuming they're stiffer -- they are in the 100ish dollar range).

In the range of what you're looking to spend ... Michelin of your choice. Can't really go wrong with any of them.

Thanks for your input.

My car is equipped with the 65 sidewall, and the reason I said 60 because I might like to go with a shorter tire to help eliminate some of that flex. The reason I ask for opinions is because this is the biggest/heaviest car that I have owned, and this is the first time I've replaced the tires.

Does anyone have tires that they're using right now that are absolutely fantastic for these cars?

BTW, this car is my daily driver, and I drive it pretty reasonably, only taking corners every so often, but when I do, the car is pretty boat-like. (my dampers are in need of replacement too)

i got kumho ecstas or something on the fronts before i took off all the tires for my E39 M5 reps. the kumhos are pretty good tires. there is a company called general that makes tires i got those on my mothers car and its pretty good. if your thinkin' about going to bigger wheels i'd say go for some Falken FK-452s. they're pricey but they are awesome at racing.

That is probably what you're feeling that seems like the sidewall flexing ... a Ford Escort (and I am not joking) left me behind on an on-ramp once before I replaced my shocks. I just did not feel safe chasing it ...

btw, What type of tires are you on now?

if you click on the link to Tirerack in the top panel of the forum you can plug the details of your car, or just the size you want and it'll come up with some really reasonably priced tyres.

ive had my car almost 5 years, and ive had 2, yes 2 sets of kumho's. get them if its not a daily driver. they are a very soft compund tire; mostly for racing.

id go with a michelin pilot. they will be my next set. in fact, i still have the factory spare that is a pilot
