View Full Version : '92 325i woo hoo!!
SukebeSama 04-15-2003, 02:54 AM I just picked up a '92 325i this past weekend. Definately like it a lot better than my lil 4-banger, except for the grey bumpers and sideskirts :( So far things are running pretty good but there are a few things i've read that should be checked out for this car. So sometime in the next month or so I'll probably be doing a little work on it, if there are any Hawaii people that have things to do at the same time, i.e. change oil, brakes, check things or whatever, we could make a day of it.
Congrats Koa!
What are you gonna do w/ the 318?
Hawaii 04-15-2003, 04:02 AM right on. you must really feel a power difference.
SukebeSama 04-15-2003, 05:25 AM yup yup, there's a definate power difference haha. Im tryin to get the door on my 318 fixed/replaced and then im gonna see if i can sell it. This 325 is gonna stay stock for a while tho cuz im low on cash :( i think i'll probably transfer most of my parts from the red one over to this tho so it aint that bad...unless i can sell the 318 quicker with the aftermarket parts, we'll see...
DesmoBob 04-15-2003, 01:32 PM Congrats :) I think you should transfer whatever mods you can to the 325i since I don't think they will help sell the 318 faster. Seller always gets short end of the deal when selling something with mods. About fixing the door, see if you can get an estimate. Then if you don't actually get it fixed, you can negotiate that into the selling price. If they don't talk you down, you may even come out ahead.
IslandS62 04-15-2003, 05:03 PM Hey congrats Koa. Definitely transfer those BBS rims over! What color is your "new" 325?

its white with grey bumpers and sides:( i wanna paint the grey stuff, but i kinda like it lookin stock and unnoticable for now. I flew past two cops goin 65 on wilder today...they were on foot, but if they radioed in my car description, it'd be a lot harder to find a white one than my bright shiny red one heh.

before I got my 325is ('92!) I was trying to sell my modded '93 Audi 90S. It had bilstein/eibach suspension, intake, chip, throttle body upgrade, delrin control arm bushings, OZ superleggra rims/ Michelin MXX3 tires- and no one wanted it! I was asking $7,850 and four months later I finally sold it to some high school chick who's probably curbing the sh*t out of the rims as we speak for $5,650! I think that most enthusiasts are interested in a stock car. If it is reasonably affordable to change over your parts to your 325i, I'd do it now.
My ex:
SukebeSama 04-28-2003, 11:44 PM i know...i dont think i'd ever buy a modded car. luckily however i found someone that will probably take it off my hands for 6200...thank GOD cuz the driveway is gettin cluttered up here haha...anyway...time to start savin for my 325 mods
Hawaii 05-05-2003, 10:58 PM is the 325 an auto or stick
my car doesn't even start right now
Gene V 05-06-2003, 02:21 AM 65 on Wilder, that's not too cool. You need to come autox, do track events or something...
The Beastmaster 05-06-2003, 03:41 AM Good advice, Gene. Will you and Ken make it to the Aloha 500 this year?
Gene V 05-06-2003, 04:35 PM We're going to try and make it...I've got to get my cooling system changed out first, as a preventitive measure...will also need to flush the brakes and maybe get new front pads...
Hawaii 05-07-2003, 12:31 AM hey koa i saw your old car today by the new mililani zippy's
i started thinking it was yours when i saw the BBSs' you should have changed them over to the new ride
Hawaii 05-07-2003, 10:48 PM saw your car again i think the kid you sold it to goes to mililani high now i am not the only bimmer there. my car is broke though
IslandS62 05-08-2003, 04:55 PM What's wrong with your E36 Hawaii?
Hawaii 05-09-2003, 12:29 AM i have no idea
i haven't been driving it for a couple of weeks only my dad. he said all electronics went out and came back on one night then the next day the car didn't start. i am going to get it checked out by my mechanic but got to wait till i have the time off from work. probably next week tuesday.
The Beastmaster 05-09-2003, 01:40 AM All the electronics, meaning gauges went out? Or was it something else? The car didn't start because of the electronics or was the battery dead? If the battery is getting old, it can affect the electronics.
You haven't jump started the car recently, have you?
Hawaii 05-09-2003, 02:32 AM from my understanding everything went out and came back on like a power surge or something
the battery is new along with the starter
when i try to start the car everything lights up fine but it doesn't turn over at all. i turn the key all the way and it is silent, no clicking or whining. haven't found any blown fuses.
DesmoBob 05-09-2003, 12:28 PM this is worth a look:

Hawaii 05-10-2003, 01:55 AM i checked my wires and they are in great shape
i guess i'll just have to wait till i get it checked out

hah long story to that...considering i havent sold my car yet. Last saturday i met a friend of my friend who was interested...he said he wanted to buy it and asked if he could use it for that day and give it back sunday, i said sure since he was a friend of my friend and i didnt really use the car anyway. sunday came and he said he was sure he wanted it and asked if he could hold it til monday and he'd give me the money then, so i was like right on, thats kool. monday came, tuesday, wednesday...so thursday when he stopped answerin my phone calls and hadnt returned my voicemails, i got pretty fed up. he had my car for five days and didn't pay me anything. SOOOO I drove out to mililani thursday with my girl, and we searched all around Mililani High School lookin for my car...couldnt find it. So in the night time, I went back to Mililani with my friend...found the car, and took it back (I guess the guy didn't think I had two keys :dunno ...stupid if you ask me)
so now i have the car...he doesnt know, he thinks it got stolen...yet he still avoids my calls and hasnt even told me that it got 'jacked.' i dont understand this guy. to make matters worse...when i got the car and drove it away, the gears grind...i push the clutch all the way in...to the floor when i shift...and it still grinds...and no more right fog light...and the driver's side window dont work. only thing good so far was that i added 30 CDs to my collection, and have another sub heh. anyone know how much its gonna cost me to fix the clutch?
when he had my car, i was thinkin bout reporting it stolen...i think i should have. i have a feeling this guy isnt gonna buy my car, and probably wont pay me for the clutch that he messed up, and the other damage he caused *sigh*...wat a waste of my time...I'm tryin to find out if there's anyway I can take him to court for this...wat do you guys think?
The Beastmaster 05-12-2003, 12:49 PM You should have reported the car stolen. That way, there would have been more of an incentive to have the car repaired by the bastard. If not, it's off to jail! You should also talk to your friend about his/her friends.
Whatcha asking for the car?
IslandS62 05-12-2003, 06:25 PM Damn Koa, you are a pretty understanding guy. That dude would have been in jail if he pulled that with me. Of course I never would have let him drive away without paying. Way too much liability. What if he had totalled it, or worse injured someone with it.
If you don't have the cash, hit the road! :P
SukebeSama 05-13-2003, 12:01 AM yup im kickin myself right now for lettin him drive away with it...im too damn trusting...pretty much everyone i know wants to go to his house and kick his arse...but i told them to wait to see if I can get money haha. i gonna talk to a lawyer and see if I can use the law to get him to pay up so he stops wasting my time. I told him that I'd sell it for 5800...thats with a bunch of my aftermarket stuff still on, including the rims and suspension...but also including the dent. i gave him a pretty reasonable price i thought, yet he still tried to scam me. i have no idea what he was thinking he could do...just drive my car for the rest of his life without paying me, heh. i guess he didnt realize that my car is pretty well-known among the younger car-enthusiasts on the island...had bout five people call me to tell me 'the guy you sold your car to just got it jacked, thats messed up'...little did they know it wasnt stolen, it wasnt even sold...I just took back what was mine. I regret it now however, I should have just told the cops it was stolen...especially since I know some...they woulda helped me out...but they always give me shit cuz the car is so illegal heh.
Hawaii 05-13-2003, 12:48 AM if you want pm me with his name and i'll talk to him in school
that is bull shit i would straight false that dude. but i guess just handle in your own way if you want. sorry to hear about your mishap. first your door gets banged now this. shit is twisted homie.
meanwhile sounds like it is my starter with my car, going to get it fixed for free on wed since the part is still under warranty.
SukebeSama 05-13-2003, 12:55 AM shit thanks dude...if he keeps avoiding my calls, maybe i'll have to ask you to talk to him...but yah, thats why i wanted to get rid of this car, really bad luck heh...

If the clutch is engaged and the gears grind, it is your syncros that are worn, not the clutch.
It's a much more expensive repair than a clutch and is caused by shifting improperly.
Bring your new car to autox this weekend.:)
Gene V 05-13-2003, 05:36 PM Reid, you going to be there with your turbo'd 400 HP M3?

It seems to only grind when I am putting it into first gear. And doesnt do it every time :dunno I'll take it to a shop to see whats wrong. When is the next AutoX? I have to go and get footage for my website anyway...and to video my friend's turbo MR2...your M3 is turbo'd Reid??

Engine is still stock and will remain that way, FOREVER. ;)
I'm currently working on getting my suspension setup dialed in. I have run into a snag with the rear shock mounts, so the stock rear shocks are back on the car currently.:(
Also I still need to weld in the rear swaybar reinforcements and install the rear swaybar, not to mention get the car aligned.
I may be campaigning a stock 330ci in DSP this weekend to get a feel for how far off the pace I am. If I am not TOO far from being competitive, I'll race the rest of this season in DSP with the 330ci on V700s.:)

No, it is not turbocharged. I have decided that the M3 is a great car in stock form and I will continue to enjoy the car without modifying it. Why fix it, if it ain't broke I always say.
Something like that...:evil2
Hawaii 05-16-2003, 03:19 AM cough cough Bull Shit cough
if i didn't have hockey this sunday then i would come down to check you guys out. maybe next time.
thrlls 05-18-2003, 03:10 AM Brian - John
You guys coming out tomorrow to autox?
Hey Brian I see Ray is selling his M roadster, have you heard from him lately?
Koa - Bummer about your Bimmer, but I agree with John. You are one understanding dude, and too trusting especially for a friends friend. I hope things work out for you legally.
Hey John, can I borrow your car tomorrow? he he....I hear you got some awesome brakes!
Reid, how was that torturous east coast track day that you had to attend?
:checkered
The Beastmaster 05-18-2003, 05:38 PM Where you been Woody? Working on your car for the Aloha 500?
Of course I won't be at autox as it's too far away. Now, if it were back at Aloha Stadium...
Koa, is your car parked in Kapahulu across from Rainbows?
thrlls 05-19-2003, 12:19 AM Had a shoulder surgery, but I got to observe John do his brakes. Now I'm going to attempt to do mine.....yikes!
I also had some dings fixed on my door a second time from bikes falling on my car, and other car doors hitting my car. I went to Dent Doc, but I got some over spray problems now, so I'm taking it back.
Just got back from that far, far away race track doing some a/x.
Reid -
You are one crazy dude! I had two yellow flags following you. But at least I got two more free runs. I think you need to do the Aloha 500 like soon. Nice spin outs...hehe
You gottah clean them wheels man. I like that M3, it looks fast just parked on the grid, dirty rims and all. Or maybe it's because you're in the driver's seat....hehehe

LOL!
The car is setup to turn in nicely due to the added caster and toe out. The problem with this during the race was that the 255s in the rear could not keep up with the quick steering inputs, not to mention the fact that the rear tires would spin upon corner exit.
I went home after my heat to mount 225s in the rear of the car, as I wanted the car to display gross oversteer (as I already had adequate oversteer with the 255s).
Why would you say I need to do the Aloha 500 soon? Do you think I need to learn some car control?:evil2
I had no intention of trying to compete in SM, but after today's event I am having second thoughts. The test and tune on the 31st will be a great day to dial the car in.:)
The Beastmaster 05-19-2003, 02:00 AM Woody,
When and here will you be doing your brakes? Can I come and cause trouble? Actually, I have to do some brake work on the new 6er, but may hold off until the motor goes in. I need to change the flex hoses, rotors and pads, but I'm lazy and may just do the hoses. Actually I just need to see if the brakes (4 pot calipers w/ vented rotors all around) and any of the suspension stuff from my old 6er can migrate over. May have to adapt some stuff, but it'll be cheaper than buying new stuff.
Does anyone sell the Motive pressure bleeder in Hawaii? If not, I'll probably order from the mainland.
IslandS62 05-19-2003, 04:28 AM Woody: Missed the auto/x, but I was out at Barber's Pt. on Sunday so Anna could participate in a dog show :( Let me know if you need help with the brakes. Did you get a brake bleeder? I am thinking of taking the fronts off again and putting some anti-squeal compound on the front and painting the calipers. The Axxis pads are awesome, but they sqeal at low speed like crazy.
Also since you are addicted to track events....I was talking to Farid who owns Speedgear and he says his track day is in June and only costs $25 for the day. I was a little worried about young, reckless kids going to this event but he assures me its very safe. I was thinking of checking it out before the Aloha 500.
thrlls 05-19-2003, 12:09 PM Reid - You read more into then I wrote!
I KNOW you can control your car very well, I seen that first hand yesteday. Your car was spinning yes, but you were in control. What I meant was, you could drive as fast as you want and not be limited to cones....longer straights. Your skills are not in question. Still crazy though.....LOL
Are you still up for DIY sessions?
Brian -
I'll probably do it at my house, and I ordered a Motive bleeder from BMP. It should be here this week. I'll let you know when I plan on doing my brakes. You don't have to come to cause TROUBLE, you do just fine on the forum....LOL
John -
Of course I need help...in more ways than one...hehe I'll talk with my wife (boss) and see if we can have a Summer break brake session...like Reid suggested a DIY session.
Remember, I'm no mechanic, I only sell parts.
Yes, I know Farid. He bought a Pre-runner from me when I was selling cars. He told me about his sessions, but I never got a schedule of his dates. I know he got into a major accident at one of those events and ended up in the hospital. I'm not sure how safe or controled his events are. Let me know if you go, maybe I'll go just of observe how things are first.
gottah go work now!
:checkered
The Beastmaster 05-19-2003, 12:38 PM Well, Derrick did attend Speedgear's Thanksgiving run a couple years ago and said it was no Aloha 500. One of the guys got pissed for being black flagged and PARKED his car on the side of the track and WALKED back to the infield.
Let me know how it goes w/ the bleeder as I was thinking about getting one. Don't know if I can make it to help you out, a family emergency just came up and I have to go to Cali.
Gene V 05-19-2003, 06:41 PM Reid-
You did good yesterday on those greasy Pirellis, mount up some fat R compound rubber and you'll be more than competive in SM...take your car to the class mod limit and you will have a dominating SM monster...

I look forward to tracking the M3. But spinning/sliding at those speeds would not be fun at all.

Oh, and I'm always trying to become better at controlling my car. One can never know enough.:12:

Thanks for the kind words, Gene.
I did not do as well as I would have liked. Yesterday's event was a course that my Integra would have performed better on than my M3.
Gene, is there any chance I could test fit a SSR comp on the front of my car one day to see if it clears my brakes? If I want to run a 17x9 wheel, it will have to be a SSR as Volk only offers 17x8 in our bolt pattern.
I don't look forward to trying to order SSRs and V700s from Tire Rack and having to convince them to sell it to me although they are the "wrong" wheels and tires for my application.:az:
Gene V 05-19-2003, 08:22 PM I plan to be at the Test & Tune on the 31st if you want to try the SSR, or you can come to my place if you want to do it sooner...
Gene V 05-22-2003, 06:34 PM Reid:
You may want to check into the Kosei K-1. They are fairly light and relatively cheap.
I read a couple of weeks ago that Brad at Evosport was trying to get Kosei to do another production run of K-1s to fit our cars. Also heard that Tire Rack may carry that fitment again.
