Did they not produce any manual 850's for the japanese market? In bringing my 850 over from japan, i wasnt able to find any manual! Maybe i just wasnt searching the auctions thoroughly enough.

Yes, They're Manual J-Spec E31's, Several guys in Canada have them.

The manual j-specs are just as desired as the manuals in the North American market, so they sell faster. Plus there just aren't as many to start with.

According to the 8 Series Registry there were only 2,721 left drive manuals for the entire euro market where as there were 11,989 left drive autos.... (23% manuals)

If you are talking about the 118 page Drivers Manual , I just purchased one from the local BMW Dealer for $50.00.. Took 10 days to arrive

For what its is worth, BMW did not import any E31 850i/Ci 6 speeds into Japan, regardless of what you have heard or read elsewhere. That being said, there were 2 CSi's imported both of which, obviously were 6 speeds.
I have corresponded ad nauseum with the worlds formost expert on these cars and here is his direct answer as stated on "another" forum.

"Were there J-Spec 6spds? Excellent question. From the Inventory Project, there are no market version code 807 (Japan) M70 6spd 850i/Ci's shown built for Japan. The only 6spds 8's delivered to Japan were two LHD S70 850CSi's (one 1994 Tobago Blue and one 1995 Artic Silver) and the potential for one imported LHD 6spd Alpina B12 5.7 (that's a long story and I'm not prepared to discuss this one yet, still researching it) in addition to one LHD Alpina B12 5.7 Switchtronic (early SMG). Now, that's not to say someone privately could have imported a LHD or RHD M70 850i/Ci 6spd to Japan and had it federalized for Japan."

Yes I am familiar with J-spec cars in general as there are now 27 on my BC 8's registry (http://www.wuffer.net/page7.html). This does not include the 10 or more that I am currently aware of for sale in the lower mainland nor does it include the 3 in my driveway. I have probably seen and dealt with more J-spec E31's than anyone in Canada. Even bought one of my own as a donor car and parted it out.

Ya, his manuals have already majorly saved my butt, along with the help of everybody here! This forum makes owning an 850 possible for me. I have also tried to sign up for Wuffers forum several times to no avail unfortunately.

Thanks Wuffer, that answers my questions.. So basically the two canadian that brought in the manual 8's most likely got ones that were privately imported into japan in the first place?

I can only assume that to be correct. Provide me with last 7 digits of the VIN#'s and I can likely get more info on where the cars in question originated.

I've been correct by wuffer. Those numbers were just production numbers not the actual distribution amounts. I only presumed that the jap market would receive some...
