Magilla

Not a whole lot, Shannon...
Christmas was kinda "meh" since my mom spent it in the hospital...

How are things on your end?

powellsd

sorry to hear your mom was in the hospital. Hope all is well now

THings are going great here. Working away, trying to save money for a new garage and for several track sessions this year. to many things i need to buy for the car..and its not cheap stuff either..

Magilla

Nothing is cheap anymore...:)

Sure it is, you just have to do work for a company based in the UK and be paid in GBP, then everything is half price. :shifty

I must admit that I have been somewhat of a "lurker" lately...

The Wife and I are planning a trip to Omaha this spring. I'll have to let you guys know when we set a more definite date...

powellsd
01-09-2008, 04:51 PM
you should come to the annual dinner.. I think we are going to make it that way..

Hastings in April????

Magilla
01-09-2008, 05:15 PM
That's a good idea, Shannon...

What's in Hastings?

I'm afraid I don't qualify for that event... I am not an advanced solo driver...:(

AlarmedBread
01-09-2008, 05:57 PM
It's listed incorrectly. Thats just for driving friday, the sat/sunday is a driving school anyone can attend.

By the time I got the Ix ready for this, I wouldn't have the money for the school...

Talk to shannon about the brakes, they're pretty cheap and you don't need anything more than stock replacements. The only time I've had brake fade with stock parts was when I forgot to take the tape off my foglights/brake ducts and let a wild man drive my car at MAM. Even then it didn't get scary bad.

As for the understeer, it's an e30, and an ix at that. hope it rains and you'll be in good shape!

Just run your all seasons, I'll be on my steelies with all seasons since I want to save my 'good' tires for autox where they might make a noticeable difference. Pretty sure the only crazies on sticky tires in the novice group will be Jeremy and James. :shifty

Magilla
01-09-2008, 06:50 PM
ok, then that solves the tire issue...

Now solve the understeer...lol

remove the front driveshaft.

Wouldn't that also put extra strain on the transfer case?

Dark Helmet
01-10-2008, 11:23 AM
ok ok ok ok.... scrap t-case and front driveshaft... use convensional getrag 260, done.

Magilla
01-10-2008, 12:21 PM
What about the weight of the front diff and half shafts? Nose heavy car = understeer...:help

Front diff goes through oil pan. Can't use standard oil pan without changing oil pump. Can't use different oil pump without machining the block...:eyecrazy

There has to be an easier way...;)

Dark Helmet
01-10-2008, 12:32 PM
leave the front diff... just put solid everything on the rear suspension and super-still springs/shocks... but leave the front. MAKE it oversteer!!!

Magilla
01-10-2008, 12:57 PM
Are you in a giving mood?

Don't go ruining a minty IX you fools! :nono

Either run it as is, or sell it and get an i. Just drive it like you would any FWD car and you'll be fine. I wouldn't suggest you make any modifications other than replacing bushings etc. Maybe a shifter and other little things like that.

If you want over steer, go play in the snow. :)

I know how to fix this......

Mr Project
01-11-2008, 08:09 PM
Chris, try a decent alignment with near-zero front toe, and 5psi more in the rear tires than the front. That might make a nice difference in the understeer for very little $$. Then, like ...uh...Chris said, drive it like a FWD car. I've had some understeering pigs that would rotate quite nicely once I learned how to manage the weight transfer on that particular car (celica, accords, etc). Trail braking can be your friend...and you'll be the only one in an E30 doing much of that. :)

Dark Helmet
01-11-2008, 10:55 PM
or just yank the e-brake mid-turn...

AlarmedBread
01-11-2008, 11:44 PM
I will give you my tokico front springs, leave the rears stock. The higher spring rate in the rear + 4" higher ride height will induce lots of over steer. :buttrock

Dark Helmet
01-14-2008, 01:10 PM
