Hello all - I am aware that stereo issues are not new here but quick and simple, as I'm still not sure!. I have the business head unit in my '98 840, with jumpy! changer in the back, did BMW do a single CD Head unit in the same dash style as an option? - I am aware of the 'professional' (alsoi have no interest in fitting an after market (non original) unit). Call me out dated but I prefer changing in car rather than using a changer. If so where might I get one - I regularly scan the usual channels..... to no avail. I haven't contacted BMW with this question as yet.... Also Nice to have warmth again having had a successful Aux heating pump replacement over xmas! Ps jealous of our friends across the pond - do you realise how much gas is costing over here now!! running my 840 is like running a small jet!!.... however no intention of changing quite yet!

Hi Florio
Hope your well, i removed my original recently to fit in a mp3 Alpine unit, makes all the difference with sound.
If you want to keep things simple try a Becker CD player. I have heard it in my friends Maserati and it sounds great.

Florio, trying the BMW CD43 unit. It is an excellent unit and is exactly what you are looking for.

I'll throw in another vote for the becker units. I have one and mine was direct plug and play and it increased the sound quality by an enormous amount. The deck looks pretty stock with no gawdy blue lights (just not my style.) the lighting on the deck almost matches the interior lights too... Plus you can get them with navigation (mine does).

Becker Indianapolis BMW branded here. Very nice radio with removable face plate, MP3 connectivity and GPS (which won't work in the US, but you can turn that feature off). The Head unit has a much better sound than the stock piece of crap that came with these cars. I agree, I like to change the disc up front and not have to stop the car and change the CD magazine every so often.

I have the Becker/BMW Indianapolis too and absolutely love it. Its design fits very well in the clean German interior of our 8-series. The only problem I have with it is the positive display (black text on a BMW orange background) where all other displays in the car are negative (BMW orange text on a black background).
I have modified my unit to a negative display so it matches perfectly with the other displays. I can't post pictures or links yet, but if you want to see it, copy paste following links in your browser:

Modified unit installed in my car. Note that the OBC/MID is not properly inserted. I wanted to take the center console out again.

Revtor... Very nice... very. Get many requests?Quite a few people asked me to do this mod for them. However, I lack the time for that, so I had to say sorry to all of them :(. I already spent way too much time on my own unit.
Nevertheless I took the time to make a detailed post of my mod @ roadfly, so maybe there will be other people to attempt it. If someone wants to give it a go, I will gladly give advice if needed.

I like my aftermarket JVC DVD player..
I burn a DVD-r with about 800 mp3s on it and it takes a couple weeks before im bored and burn another DVD-R
The JVC was cheap but many say that the lights clash with the cockpit lighting of the e31..
To each their own..
