For the umpteenth time, I was cut-off in traffic this morning. I honked to make my disapproval known and got the bird in response. It happens all the time, of course. This is Atlanta after all.
Today's offender was another one of those people with their prominent "In Memory Of" stickers in their back window. This was certainly not the first time somebody who's recklessly driving around in traffic in memory of some lost loved one, acquaintance, or person whose circumstance made the news has affected my journey.
I've always wanted to know just what makes people put those stickers on their cars. Doesn't the "in memory" part necessitate some action? I'd think that you'd do something that the deceased liked to do.
I guess my question is whether the deceased person would appreciate people just driving around to the shops or commuting to work in their memory.
I for one would rather have that sticker on your beach chair. Sit on the beach, looking out at the water in my memory. Go sit on top of a mountain taking in the scenery and serenity in my memory. Sit at the esses and watch the cars roar by. Please do not sit in traffic in my memory.

But that's just me. Sometimes I miss the obvious. Please don't get all huffy if you've lost somebody close to you and put this sticker in your window. Happy trails.

I personally dislike bumper stickers of any sort. There are a couple of women in my building that have about 10-15 bumper stickers on the back of their cars (Pro-lesbian, Antt-government,etc..) I so want to put an NRA and Pro-life sticker on their car.

Disclaimer: I don't agree or disagree with the NRA or Pro-life. I would only do this because I am a major bastard.

Maybe the people with those stickers miss their loved ones so much, they drive like asses in an effort to commit suicide on the roads so they can be reunited. :( :angel

Next time, do them a favor: Kill them, and send them on their merry way. :wave

I'm in an especially malicious mood today. I need to go fire off a few thousand rounds and calm down before someone gets hurt.

Well said.

These are probably the same people who think roadside memorials (crosses, wreaths, stuffed animals, candles, etc.) are a good idea.

I just want to drive through those when I see them.

Hell they even have them in the hood to commemorate the gang shootings or people getting hit for trying to cross Boulevard with their pants down around their crotch. Damn idiots don't even care to use a f*cking crosswalk. They're too good for that, they just cross the road where they want and get pissed when people don't stop to let them through. I personally love to speed the f*ck up and try to hit them. It scares the crap out of the hoodies. :evil2

I have warned all my friends and family that if they memorialize me through the use of any vehicle-based sticker, I WILL haunt the shit out of them.

Now what is wrong with a road side memorial. Most of the people in the hood don't have enough money to even bury the deceased. There are war memorials and etc. why is it so wrong for a family and friends to make their own. Now I am not condoning the actions of the of the deceased and what they did. But I mean their loved ones making a memorial come on now.

OH OH OH OH Can I be Private Ass Hole LOL

Right-of-way ownership issues aside, roadside memorials are an unnecessary distraction to other drivers, most of whom are already hopelessly distracted anyway.

The people who visit these memorials along a busy highway might as well paint bull's-eyes on themselves.

Agreed, and one other point...

A couple of years ago, some drunken teenagers managed to depart a nearby interstate highway at Ludicrous Speed and meet their ends by flipping the car, and pranging some trees & big heavy rocks. Their families didn't just put up a simple marker; No, they went all trailer-park-fabulous, with signs, banners, crosses, plastic flowers, balloons, stuffed animals of all shapes & sizes, photos, and hand-made posterboard memorials. I mean, really... Can anyone read that crap at 80 MPH - even if it were spelled correctly?

But wait, there's more: As if that weren't enough, the still-extant carriers of these defective genes tied up the resources of local on-duty cops, who were repeatedly made to sit on the shoulder of the highway, blue lights on, protecting the whole brood until they finished their randomly-timed, oft-repeated visits to view what was left of the busted-up trees their progeny had mowed down, and any additions that had been made to the panorama of garbage since they'd last been there. This went on for a month and change. :confused

The 4th or 5th time I saw this happening, I actually called the police HQ, and asked if there were any plans to allow the guys to get back to actual police work, and let the DOT clean up the glorified litter on the highway. (Yeah, I'm that cold.) About a week later, the "memorial" was finally gone.

Such exercises in public displays of "grieving" are needless, and help no one. You wanna convene with the Dwellers of The Great Beyond, fine. Go where you planted them, and stare at the dirt. But unless you miss them enough to risk joining them, get the hell off the highway, and take the trash heap with you. :shifty
