View Full Version : Colorado Springs Roll Call - V.2
Pswirley 02-04-2008, 07:49 PM GTFO are you serious. I am sorry to hear that. Please strike all attempts to be funny about Davids exploding car from the record. I had no intention of being hurtful in a bad situation, I was only trying to amuse thinking it was a disconnected hose. This update to the story has me sad.
Video is still gold.

I'm not bothered by your comments, just really annoyed that it broke. It wouldn't be as bad if I had the cash to upgrade, but I have to stick with the stock replacement radiator instead (that'll eventually break again). No worries Casey, you're still good in my book :).
I inspected it today... I've got it worked out to be functional for now, but the hose is only sitting on maybe 1/8" of plastic, so it's definitely a temp fix. Hopefully I can get a radiator by this weekend to install :help
Pswirley 02-04-2008, 08:10 PM I know, I just didnt want it to seem as if I knew the whole story and was just being a dick. Now that I have this additional information, its just not as funny to me. I am kind of pissed on your behalf.
dswads34 02-04-2008, 08:27 PM No worries man, I just found out today when I got home, and that's why I have a beer in my hand right now. Now I'll use this as a crazy justification to get underdrive pulleys as my next modification, other than the radiator/hoses/expansion tank :eyecrazy.
Casey, if you're still on here and not too busy, give me a call. We might talk to James about picking up some parts if you think it's possible.
dswads34 02-05-2008, 03:47 PM Update: I bought a new Behr radiator, expansion tank, silicon U/L radiator hoses, all radiator mounts/brackets, and most of the cooling system hoses last night, and they are all set to arrive on Friday. I plan to install these at my parent's place, which should save some cash for Jeremy's house so he can spend that heating money on the car :). No worries, the garage will be heated up. If anybody wants to lend a hand or come talk while I work on it, you're all welcome to join me!
Pswirley 02-05-2008, 08:57 PM David, I can probably make it. Call me on Saturday when you are ready to do work.
dswads34 02-05-2008, 09:08 PM David, I can probably make it. Call me on Saturday when you are ready to do work.
Excellent. Are you busy Friday? I think I'm going to try and get it knocked out that evening... no timing or worrying about cracking camshafts on this one, and I got all new brackets and everything so that the others can be taken off without a ton of concern :).
Michael, random question... what does your welder call for in terms of power/supplies? I've thought about purchasing an arc welder or something that I can plug into a standard garage socket to do exhaust work this summer, as well as some other random modifications, if I can get one that'd do the trick for a reasonable price. They're selling one at Checker for $100, but I don't honestly think I could buy anything except sockets and brackets from them though :nono. When do you think you'll be moving? I keep forgetting to call my brother in law about that trailer... I'll do that now ;)
Pswirley 02-05-2008, 09:36 PM Friday could be a problem potentially because I am likely going to be wrapping some more suede in mystery spots in my car all day. Just call me and let me know. If we communicate we can overcome our differences in scheduling.
mrnvgtr 02-05-2008, 09:54 PM Michael, random question... what does your welder call for in terms of power/supplies? Its a 110 volt unit, so no special outlets are necessary. I wouldn't get anything smaller than my unit. Its a Hobart, but am too lazy to go to the garage to check which model. Its not the smallest one though. It can also handle gas, which its currently set up for, or just flux core (hollow gas filled) wire. They say you get what you pay for. I didn't start off with a really tiny unit, so I can't say for sure, but the smaller units don't have the gas hook-ups and mine has definitely come in handy in the past. The smaller units also have less range in their power settings. Less range means you might only be able to weld an exhaust vs welding roll cage tubing which I can do with mine (though as I already proved, its still up to operator skills). I got it online from the Harbor Freight website as a refurbished to new unit, so I got a pretty good deal on it - about $250 if I remember correctly.
I'm moving this summer, between June and August, but I'm still waiting on my orders which say exactly when and where I'm moving to.
I guess my tastes in trailers have changed since we last discussed this. I'm definitely looking for something with a wheel rack and maybe a storage bin up front. I'm shooting for something that I wouldn't mind keeping for several years until it makes sense to step up to something enclosed. Anyway, if your friend's trailer might match my interests, please contact him about it. Otherwise, I've got time on my side and I'm still looking. See my other thread here titled "Trailer - opinions" for the latest one I'm looking at if you're interested. Thanks for your help.
MARKSS 02-05-2008, 11:19 PM David, I can probably come if you can wait until Saturday (weather permitting). Unfortunately I have to work late on Friday.
dswads34 02-06-2008, 12:33 AM Casey & Mark, thanks for the offers. I'm pretty set on installing everything on Friday, since babying the car is kind of difficult to do... not that I'm that fast, but I hate not being able to get on it! I'll let you know if I don't finish or if things change.
Michael- his trailer is nothing like what it sounds like you want, so I'll hold off on talking to him. Maybe we should just weld you a new one :D. If you don't think you'll use it in the future, I'll just buy your welder this summer so you don't have to pack it and take it across the country :devillook. From what I've read, gas gives a lot cleaner/prettier welds, which isn't a requirement on exhausts, but it would be nice when I eventually start welding on more visual parts of the car.
Justin, it was good talking to you. I'm glad you're happy with the interior too! Maybe I can find a way to do mine this summer... or get some race seats that need refinishing and get those covered in suede/leather :).
Jeremy- get back to studying :stickoutt
Pswirley 02-06-2008, 12:56 AM Justin, glad that everything turned out well and I cant wait to get the bumper off of James' hands and onto my car.
mrnvgtr 02-06-2008, 01:04 PM Well I custom ordered a sweet new race car trailer today. The company is Kremin Welding http://www.kreminwelding.com/ in Walnut Grove, MN. They take about a month to build, but they said I can pick it up as late as mid May if I'd like. The cool thing is that they might have a ride for it on a transport on the way to CA between now and then, so I'd basically get it to me for free without having to drive there or pay for shipping. Here's the basic stats on the trailer.

A little bit different from what I was originally looking for, but this one I can definitely see keeping for a while, and if I need to sell it I'll still get a premium. Plus my nice phat tax return and possible $1500 crazy money from Bush made it an easier choice. They said they don't have a photo of the exact trailer they're building me, but here's a few photos to give an idea what it'll look like. For color I'm deciding between white or black. The blue one below appears to be the closest match based on the storage box size.

dswads34 02-06-2008, 03:28 PM Very nice Michael, it looks like it's going to be very nice! That's a far cry better than the one I was talking about too. For color, white would look great so long as it would clean easily. It would match the truck too :). Congrats on the purchase. I guess you won't need to take me up on the offer to store the welder for you now huh? :(
mrnvgtr 02-06-2008, 06:44 PM Sorry David, I can't part with the welder. That's one of those costly things to buy that you want to keep forever whether you use it a lot or not.
dswads34 02-06-2008, 06:55 PM Sorry David, I can't part with the welder. That's one of those costly things to buy that you want to keep forever whether you use it a lot or not.
I wasn't honestly expecting you to leave it, just hoping that you'd take my joke seriously, which I couldn't realistically expect anyways :).
Justin, I still need pictures! If any of you know of somewhere local that does mandrel bends in 16ga aluminum or stainless steel, let me know. I'm trying to figure out what my exhaust will run me this summer and whether or not I should just get the tubing and welder and do it myself, expanding the tool kit and experience a little more.
mrnvgtr 02-06-2008, 07:13 PM There's a machine shop I've used once in the past near Platte and Circle. You know the Wendys on the right just before you hit Circle when heading west? Make the turn right before you hit the Wendy's parking lot and you'll see it one block down on the left. I can't say for sure that they do this, but its a full shop for fabricating stuff, so they might. I can't remember the name of the place or the name of that street its on.
dswads34 02-06-2008, 08:48 PM Nice, I'll have to check that out Michael. I was looking around at material prices and availability, and for about the same price (if I can get it bent somewhere) I can get a full aluminum exhaust and lose even more weight :alright. I'll have to see if anybody has done this so I can find out what it would sound like... It's still like 14-16ga, so it shouldn't sound raspy, but you never know. BTW, what type of welder is yours? MIG, TIG, ARC...? I can't seem to find the difference anywhere.
mrnvgtr 02-06-2008, 10:36 PM Its a MIG. There is plenty of info online describing the differences. I bet you'd even find it here if you searched "what kind of welder" or something like that. I went through this over on www.bmw2002faq.com (http://www.bmw2002faq.com) a few years back. I think TIG is the best because the weld ends up being the smoothest, vs MIG which pops and mounds up in the hands of most guys. If you practice, you can do some really good jobs with a MIG too. A MIG is easier to use in the beginning than a TIG. With a TIG you're holding that separate piece of metal in one hand and creating an arc with the gun in the other hand. Anyway, I'm no expert on this stuff.
Pswirley 02-06-2008, 11:57 PM Michael good find, I may need one of those when I turn mine into a trailer whore.
mrnvgtr 02-07-2008, 12:31 AM The cool thing is you have options. Used, they're priced all over the place. New, you could get a basic flat bed with a wood deck for about $1500. You could get something like mine, or at the top you have the enclosed ones starting at about $5k. If you want aluminum because you're hauling it with a mid-size SUV, a basic aluminum flat bed trailer seems to start at about $2500 and then goes up from there. See my other thread. There are a few cool ones for sale out there if you don't mind driving to get them.
I like the one I ended up with because of the craftsmanship. They're pretty unique. I could have bought a basic one new from a company in Denver, for a few hundred cheaper, that said they could have done the wheel rack and storage box thing, but it would have been an oversized cooler and an outsourced wheel rack.
Unfortunately you have to worry about the tow vehicle too. Anyway, I guess once I have it, if you have any shows going on I can probably tow you there as long as I'm available and I can get the gas money covered.
Pswirley 02-07-2008, 12:47 AM It would be pretty cool, there is only one or two shows that I wouldnt be driving too until I go to Vegas in October. I will definitely be towing to Vegas but you will be gone by then.
mrpresident 02-07-2008, 01:42 AM I dont have any pics of the interior yet because i dont have a camera but its amazing. like sex for my back. plus my heated seats work 20x better for some reason. i will have pictures up soon. o and i got new tires too. kumho spts which i guess are great for track but horrible for snow lol but anythings better then what i have
Pswirley 02-07-2008, 02:28 AM I am pretty sure prices are going to go up about $150 for a full set of seats. Evidently the split rear seat in the back was no joke, and James said Paco tried to squeeze him for extra money. Disassembly and reassembly was crazy. This is part of what caused your delay Justin. I am sure that they are sick. Industrial does some very nice upholstery work. I have yet to see a car come out of there that didnt have great quality seatwork done. I am down there twice a week at least, so I see a lot of cars.
dswads34 02-08-2008, 02:18 PM That's too bad on the price increase, I was thinking about doing this when summer comes... I guess I'll just have to do a lightweight m5 flywheel/clutch assembly instead :evil2. I still may need to get some paintwork done though... Casey, does James and/or his shop do dent removal? I have some hail dents I want to bang out, as well as a couple rust spots that need repair and paint. Hopefully the rust isn't too extensive... I imagine this is more of a body shop job though, right? I'm thinking about getting a wide body kit for my car too, but we'll see how that plan goes. without wider tires it'd be a heck of a waste, and I'd have to run ridiculous wheel spacers too. I'm sure you all will talk me into it anyways :). It's sick though, looks like an early '90's race car (where the fenders are wider than the doors and have a slope inward at the front and back).
I'll be in town today at about 4 or 5 to get my parts installed so I can actually run my car again, so if anybody is interested in swinging by or whatever just give me a call. Justin, I'll let you know on the flush... I've gotta see if I can afford it after buying all these parts :(. The up side is that I've replaced almost every line and component in the cooling system after today, save for about 1-3 hoses that *knock on wood* never seem to fail. So if you need help with the t-stat Justin, just let me know ;).
Pswirley 02-09-2008, 08:20 PM Here are some pics from today. These are some of the spots that I thought would be great for a multiple car shoot.

SeeMeFly 02-09-2008, 08:58 PM i like the look man. it looks like i could get some good shots there sometime. where is that?
Pswirley 02-09-2008, 09:24 PM Its on Ft Carson so its a bit of a restricted area. If you ever want to come out though let me know via PM or call me and I can get you and your car on post and take you there. There are a bunch of areas just like that all over post. I didnt look too hard, just wanted to take some pics because I washed my car today and that means it will snow tonight.
mrnvgtr 02-09-2008, 11:05 PM Alright, this is killing me. I have to decide on one of the rather unexciting colors that comes with the trailer. They'll do a custom job for extra money, but I can't afford it. Which of these colors would you pick, and why?
I narrowed it down to either Black or Blue, but I can't decide. Black is definitely the safe color that will always look good. Blue is just my favorite of those colors but will clash with my green 2002 and silver truck. I like the blue because I think it looks good independent of anything else, and I think it would attract buyers more if for some reason I had to sell it.

Pswirley 02-09-2008, 11:30 PM I would get the silver one or black. The neutral colors will resell better down the road.

sounds good. I've actually got access to Ft Carson already so it shouldn't be a problem. i know my way around there a little bit, but I haven't had much chance to explore.
on the trailer thing.. i would have to say the same, black or silver. They they look more professional. Plus, Pswirley is right. Somehow i think reselling a blue trailer would be a nightmare haha
Edit: i just reread your post. i guess i skipped the part about you liking the blue one. I wasn't trying to deliberately bash your ideas, it was just how i felt. in the end, it may not matter too much what the color is as long as you like it when you have it.

This area is down by the railhead, its in the area between gates 4 and 3. The railhead itself is an area they really dont like people being in without a reason. Some of the first pictures I posted were at Ironhorse Park by the PX. There are a lot of places we could go. Airfield, Banana Belt(motorpools), Railhead, there are also some opportune spots down on B street.
mrpresident 02-10-2008, 01:45 AM buy white. later down the road paint it to match your 2002 and when you sell it repaint it lol

Hey dick, post pictures of your interior.
mrpresident 02-10-2008, 02:10 AM psshhhh why??? jk um jeremy has pics on his camera because i dont have one.
mrnvgtr 02-10-2008, 02:41 AM buy white. later down the road paint it to match your 2002 and when you sell it repaint it lol
I was thinking sort of the same thing except with the blue. You could get either white or blue and have a nice base for the "///M" theme.
Pswirley 02-10-2008, 02:49 AM That will be hot Michael.
dswads34 02-10-2008, 02:04 PM Michael- I think white would be sick, so long as it doesn't get dented up and whatnot. It would probably hide damage in the form of rock chips the best too, at least if the underlying metal is silver in color.
Nice shots Casey, thanks for the help the other day. I actually did a completely different approach on the radiator and it fits perfectly now, whereas before it wasn't doing so well. I've got the car back now, which is all that matters.
mrnvgtr 02-10-2008, 02:17 PM Glad all that worked out David. I bet you learned a lot in the process.
mrnvgtr 02-10-2008, 07:27 PM I decided on white for the trailer. David said it would look sick and I'm all about living with a sick mentality, yo. It was a tough decision. I just think my green race car with the white decal will look the deaffest sitting on a white trailer. Thanks for the input.
Pswirley 02-10-2008, 08:01 PM Thats so fresh and def that you will definitely be phat and a baller yo. Dog, I be so happy fo you fo shizzle.

No doubt. Keep it real, homie :pimpflash
dswads34 02-11-2008, 01:28 AM Jeremy... we need those pics of Justin's car! And Justin, if you remember how to set up the g-tech pro, we should run it next weekend to see how it compares to the dyno run. And we should find a large parking lot somewhere and run against each other :D. Your dyno numbers on the juice sound like they were a bit better than mine, so we should do a real world comparo and see what comes up. Just a little friendly invitation, no pressure. Casey, you can come too, just don't go more than 1/2 throttle on me and I won't make you cry over how nice my suede interior is becoming :).
mrpresident 02-11-2008, 02:10 AM david i hear ya on the competition but unfortunately my nitrous is empty and its unhooked at the time but you wait when i get it all set up again its on of coarse no pressure
jersE46M3 02-11-2008, 11:53 AM Jeremy... we need those pics of Justin's car!
I will post them sometime when I have the time. Studied 8 hours Saturday and 10 hours Sunday. I also study right after work anywhere between 2-7 hours. Kind of busy with books and trying to have some time with my family and not much time to do much other stuff (kind of low on the priority list). Sorry.

No need to apologize, I know how it can be sometimes. I'm just excited to see how it turned out :)
Pswirley 02-11-2008, 03:13 PM Jeremy,
Glad you took a minute to come up for air.. I have been worried about you/ scared to go to your house out of fear of a book beating.
mrpresident 02-12-2008, 10:14 AM well when it rains it poors. for months ive been waiting to get tires to replace my DRAG RADIALS lolz but now i have 9 new tires. I have a set of kumho spts and just picked up some bottle caps with another spare and almost new tires on them. So it looks like im good for tires for awhile. next suspension thanks to the government for my rebate check in may im incredibly tempted to get coilovers.

Buy my suspension, I'm seriously considering picking up a set of D/A coilovers for the track this summer... :D I'll have to take you for a ride in it with the rims back on so it doesn't feel all soft from the tires.

what suspension are you selling? koni sport?
dswads34 02-12-2008, 09:45 PM what suspension are you selling? koni sport?
That'd be the one! It all depends on if I can get the cash together, and what this one sells for... the S/A setup that is the least expensive is ~1600, whereas the D/A kit I really want to get is just over 2000.
I'll probably also be selling my obd2 manifolds and custom dual straight pipe midsection too, if you know someone who might be interested in either of those... :devillook
mrnvgtr 02-12-2008, 09:50 PM I'd possibly be interested in your OBDII manifold. It all depends on how strapped for cash I am when I move. Lots of money flying in and out of my pockets, so we'll see. PM me if you already have an idea what you want for it.
mrpresident 02-12-2008, 10:46 PM david im very interested in your suspension how much do you want for it?? whats the lowering rate on it?

1.3"/1.3" It's all you need on 18's on a street car. I haven't really put a ton of thought into what I'd want for it... it has relatively minimal use, and has been taken care of, so it wouldn't be 1/2 what it cost new, but it would be a reasonable discount nonetheless. As I mentioned, it'd have to wait until summer, but when the time comes we can work out all the details :). Feel free to send me a PM if you want to talk specific numbers more, since I know you aren't looking to buy until summer either.

yeah i'm definitely interested in the suspension. keep me posted. i'd be willing to talk numbers any time you're ready.
mrnvgtr 02-12-2008, 11:11 PM Arggh, I for some reason thought David was talking about the M50 intake manifold. Brain fart on my part. I rescind my interest.

I'll let you know. With any luck, my lawyer is worth his weight and I'll get a reasonable settlement before summer, which would mean I could get it sooner :).
Arggh, I for some reason thought David was talking about the M50 intake manifold. Brain fart on my part. I rescind my interest.
Duly noted, no worries my friend. I may still invoke your assistance with my exhaust work if you have time and are willing. I'd even do the welding myself if need be, since all the welders I found that seem to be worth anything (at least for SS) cost more than I was hoping to spend considering how often I'd use it.

I like the idea, so with any luck I can make it down. With my recent expenses, however, my attendance will be decided by the status of my gas tank.
mrnvgtr 02-13-2008, 12:25 AM David - Sure, just keep in touch about when you'd like to do some more welding. As you know, I'm no expert. That last time was hard because of the angle issues involved. We had to basically guess at it. I think I can probably put the weld down pretty good though.
Justin/Jeremy - That sounds like a good time. I think my schedule allows me to make it.
dswads34 02-13-2008, 01:59 AM Will do Michael, thanks again.
So Justin, I just saw this post of yours and it made me feel a lot better about my dyno numbers... dyno whore :stickoutt
i pushed 215 to the wheels with nitrous 50 shot, intake, exhaust, 104 octane ,tms chip, and nitrous jet tunning
Just kidding. Well, it did actually make me feel better, but I don't mean to sound negative about it :). It'll be a long time until I run 104 octane... unless I hit the lotto! You work too hard, my friend; keep that up! It'll take you far in life.
Pswirley 02-13-2008, 02:04 AM I can be there, but I wont be drinking. I am going to be in the shop all day friday and then I have some more time on Saturday to do work. Cant be feeling all shitty.
SeeMeFly 02-13-2008, 06:58 PM its a long shot probably, but does anyone have a pair of fogs they want to get rid of for an E36 M3?
Pswirley 02-13-2008, 08:57 PM Rolled fenders today. Aired tires. Dropped off M3 sideskirts and ordered my M3 rear bumper/diffuser/moldings. More parts being ordered on Friday and car goes in for final assembly and paint March 17th. Everything is falling into place nicely and should be done by the Cinco de Mayo show. 1st show of the year is March 15 then my car goes top secret disappearing act until May.
dswads34 02-13-2008, 09:08 PM So I've got a bit of a project this weekend if anybody wants to help out... it shouldn't be bad at all. I'm just checking the timing of the cams to make sure they are correct, and also the installation of the Vanos. I spoke with the engineer at AA and they mentioned that they would be happy to burn another chip with corrected AFR's, but that I need to make sure those two things are where they should be first so that the work isn't all for naught. FYI, checking them only involves removing the valve cover, and putting the TDC pin in the flywheel with the cam blocks in place :).
Casey, that's great about your parts, I'm excited to see how all this comes together. How was it rolling the fenders? Did it resolve the need for your temporary fix? Also, are the moldings for the doors/fenders or just for the bumper? You'll have to give me an update on the bumper, I thought you were going a different direction on that piece.
SeeMeFly, sorry, no luck on the fogs.
Justin- I want to check out your interior when I get back this weekend, I've been looking forward to seeing the transformation I've been hearing about! Sorry if I sounded like an ass in my last post, I didn't mean anything by it. Looking back at it, I can see how it may be taken the wrong way.
Jeremy, I've got a good first mod for you that won't break the bank, if you are still interested in pursuing that kind of thing for your car.
Pswirley 02-14-2008, 01:14 AM The moldings are for the bumper only. I decided to go with M3 rear bumper from for 230 shipped rather than something I would be taking a chance on as to whether or not I would like it.

Very nice! That website is a good find, I just spent a while outfitting my car with ///m bumpers and moldings and seeing what it'd cost... hey, if I end up respraying the car anyways, why not upgrade a bit in the process? The front bumper has such better aero characteristics it's unreal...
mrnvgtr 02-15-2008, 06:30 PM LOL, well I found out about my new assignment. Its just a verbal from my Commander and it could change by the time I get the actual assignment notice. Anyway, its not quite what I had in mind. Its definitely one of those "needs of the Air Force" assignments. See if you can guess.
I'll definitely keep in touch with you guys when I get sent to this location. At one time this place had a reasonable and prudent speed limit, until it was quickly abused by those in search of speed. A river runs through it. I'll have a lot of power at my fingertips.

Malmstrom AFB?:confused
Pswirley 02-15-2008, 08:36 PM hahahahahaha Malmstrom AFB. Home of the "fightin 341st space wing". If you ever thought that Colorado sucked.
mrnvgtr 02-15-2008, 11:46 PM You got it! :rolleyes
Yeah, I'm still trying to figure out what I'm going to do there, especially regarding my cars. I think it all depends on interest rates which will affect the size of house I can afford which will affect my car storage situation and home location. If I live on flat land I can probably get by with my M Coupe and maybe an extra junker like a Cherokee. If not, then I might need to sell it to save it from being demolished by the weather and just focus on investing more into the 2002 to keep my sanity. Or, sell the 2002 due to the lack of racing scene anywhere nearby (at least none that I no of so far with no research). If I do need to unload the M Coupe, it would be best to do it here, but I most likely won't have a specific home in mind prior to leaving. Lots to think about.
TRR330xi 02-16-2008, 08:47 PM I'm sure you can find someone to watch the M coupe instead if you decide to take yearly visits back to Colorado. :cool
mrnvgtr 02-16-2008, 10:58 PM Yeah, but then I'm left without a daily driver.

Just get some snow tires for the BBS rims :)
nuts930 02-18-2008, 10:46 AM Hey guys, hope this is the right place to post this instead of starting a new thread. Where is a good place to get a clear bra and tint in Colorado Springs? Picked up an X5 last week and it looks like I wont take it home for a few months, so I would rather have the tint and bra done here. Thanks for the help.
mrnvgtr 02-18-2008, 12:49 PM I only know of the shop that installed mine. I'm sure there are many others out there who do this.
Action Line 719-577-9988
They're on Nevada near Filmore if I remember correctly. I got a 5 year warranty with mine that covers installation defects only.

I had mine done at RM window tint down on MotorCity Drive. I think they do a lot of work for the dealerships down there. I am pretty sure they do clear bras too.

Congrats on the X5. I will hopefully be able to get one for my wife someday. (much nicer than a Ford Explorer)

I will check them out at lunch.
I went kicking and screaming into the SUV world, but now glad I did it. Last time I was home in Durango, I was stuck at my house for three days because I could not get out of the subdivision because of the snow and the freaking ruts. It is funny to drive an SUV that is literally faster than my 330xi was.

Lol, very nice! If you have to have an SUV, at least you got one that handles better than most cars on the road today. I've take an x5 any day!
I also went to RM. They had a difficult time with my car for some reason, and to be honest, while I am VERY particular, I'm still not pleased... they always have some beautiful and expensive cars in there getting tint done, including a 150,000 Jaguar last time I was there, so maybe my car is just lucky having tighter clearances than others. However, they were always extremely helpful and willing to work with me to get it right, even by my standards, which (as most will tel you) are quite high. FYI... they "seem" like the type to work with you on the legal tint limit if you want darker :devillook;)
nuts930 02-18-2008, 02:15 PM FYI... they "seem" like the type to work with you on the legal tint limit if you want darker :devillook;)
What is the legal tint limit in CO? I had 20% on the front and 15% on the back on the 330 and was never hassled. However, I have noticed CO Springs cops love to pull you over for anything and everything (I was pulled over last week doing 47 in a 45 on Nevada. WTF?)

I know the window tint place in motor city wouldn't do my window tint darker then the Colorado legal limit even though my car is reg. in Florida. So, I went to their other office near woodmen and I-25 and they said they would do it to whatever I wanted.
As far as the limit, I don't really know. Sorry.
Pswirley 02-18-2008, 06:37 PM for window tinting and clear bra call Industrial Auto Salon at 302-3293 and ask for James. He is a business partner of mine and will gladly take the time to make a competitive quote.
I am sure he can meet whatever tint parameters you would like to meet if you know what I am saying.:devillook

No kidding! They pulled me over late one night because I wasn't using my turn signals. As I understood it, the law in CO Springs is that you don't need to use your turn signals if you are in a designated turn lane, which I was in for each of my turns. No worries though, they "let me off" with a warning :rolleyes.
The legal limit for tint is 27% if it is on all windows but the windshield (windshield is illegal), or you can go as dark as you want on the back windows so long as the front windows stay 100% clear.
mrnvgtr 02-19-2008, 11:02 PM So....what's happining everyone?
I've been sick while trying to get my house in good condition to put up for sale in the next week or two.
I've also been extremely conservatively looking for a replacement for my M Coupe, preferrebly in a trade situation but the chances of that are almost impossible, so I can pool some extra money to do something insane with the 2002 while in Montana. That, or else I might end up running through the woods naked to join a pack of wolves to retain that edge I usually get from working on cars.
dswads34 02-19-2008, 11:14 PM Michael, you are alive! I've been good, just rechecked the timing and whatnot this weekend with Jeremy and a couple other guys came by too. Before you ask, we were checking to make sure it was good to go before I got my chip reburned so that the new tune wouldn't be a waste of time.
I'm not sure about Justin... he got his stuff redone, and I was in town temporarily today and wanted to see his interior among other things, and couldn't get him on the phone. I guess his interior looks incredible though :buttrock. My car is more focused on performance until this summer when rock chips and whatnot are more avoidable.
mrpresident 02-19-2008, 11:42 PM sorry david i left my phone at home and just got your message. anyways i finally got some pics of my interior. the camera doesnt do it justice as the flash makes the suede really light looking. comments welcome.

Pswirley 02-20-2008, 12:20 AM Ummmm hello Michael, I am glad that you finally took a break from the Montana Roll Call.
Justin, I saw the seats the other night and they look real nice. Pics dont do it justice.
Who is down for going to Denver this Sunday with me to the Euro meet. I will be leaving the Springs on Sunday at about 10 am.
dswads34 02-20-2008, 02:26 AM No worries Justin, I'm not in a huge hurry to change the oil, it's just one of those things ya know? That engine flush seemed to do wonders, but every time I open up the engine I try to put fresh blood in it to flush out whatever contaminants got in. The seats look good BTW! Personally, I would have carried the suede theme onto the headrests and seat bottoms, but both have their advantages to be sure. The material you used on the headrests and seat bottoms is much more durable I assume, so your seats will look great for a long time coming. I'm still excited to see it in person! Just imagine, if you weren't addicted to modifying the car before, I'm sure you are now :D. I'm glad you kept the car, just keep 'em coming :buttrock. BTW, I've been finding some great deals on getrag trannys... :evil2
On the Denver meet, I think I'll make it. I have a large exam on Monday, but I will try to study to the point where I can afford a few hours off. Since I took a long weekend off, it'll be difficult, but I haven't even been to more than an hour of one, so I feel like I'm overdue.
mrnvgtr 02-20-2008, 09:25 AM Justin - big change with the interior and very nice looking. Did you ever get that NOS kit hooked back up cleanly?
Pswirley 02-20-2008, 10:18 AM For some reason I thought the meet was at noon but its at 130. I will be leaving the Springs at 1130.

dswads34 02-20-2008, 04:25 PM cool Mark, just let me know.
Are you for sure coming up? I'm going to make it if I can, but I have some things I need to get from Jeremy's place if you are able to bring them up with you. Justin, are you planning to make it up, or are you busy? Hopefully a decent group and go and represent the roll call for those who cannot make it.
Pswirley 02-20-2008, 05:16 PM Yes, David. I am definitely going unless there is snow and ice on the roads. Then I will have to make other arrangements for the parts I am picking up.
SeeMeFly 02-20-2008, 10:26 PM If anyone locally is interested, I'm trying to sell my Infinity Basslink to go with something custom instead. Let me know if you're interested.

Let me know..

mrnvgtr 02-21-2008, 12:31 PM Congrats Mark! I somehow wasn't aware of the fact she popped.
I'll have proof of the goodies again maybe later this year/early next year. ;)
dswads34 02-21-2008, 12:32 PM Congrats Mark! I had no idea. However, to correct Casey, it only shows that you got the goodies 9 months ago :D
So I'm going to try and find a way to make it to the dyno again here within the next couple weeks if anybody wants to come up. Hopefully there won't be as much excitement as there was last time... I like coolant when it stays within the system it was designed for.
Justin, let me know about your friend. I've talked to a couple people about them, but would prefer to give your buddy a deal since you've helped me out with various stuff in the past.
Michael, what does your schedule look like for the week of March 17th? If I can find a way to afford it, I really want to get my exhaust done. The rasp either seems to have gotten more pronounced, or my tolerance for it has decreased. Either way, something has got to happen. Speaking of which... does anybody happen to have some header wrap or know of a place that sells it relatively inexpensively? I think that may provide a temporary fix and save what little remains of my sanity :eyecrazy.
edit: It looks like we were posting at the same time Michael, and that congratulations are in order for you too! So, unless you are just scheming out loud, congrats :)
fsmtnbiker 02-21-2008, 01:10 PM David - Let me know what you decide on a dyno day. I might head down and get mine done too. Especially if it's before March 8th.
mrnvgtr 02-21-2008, 01:32 PM David - I would like to get my car on the dyno just so I'll always know what my baseline was. I'll keep looking for the time/place for the next session.
I won't know my schedule for March until the last day or two of Feb when it comes out. I'm sure we can work it out once I get my schedule.
Pswirley 02-21-2008, 02:02 PM I think my radiator neck is cracking so no Dyno for me until I can find the leak and fix it. David has already marked that wall as his own.

If all goes well, I'll manage to get it done before the 8th. I will be sure to let you know. It will not be this weekend, but I imagine that the next weekend is a viable option.
David - I would like to get my car on the dyno just so I'll always know what my baseline was. I'll keep looking for the time/place for the next session.
You should come up to the place I went. The operators were friendly and I felt confident in their abilities. That, and the price wasn't bad either. If we get me, Chris, you, and Casey, that is getting pretty close to a "group rate" where we could get the $50 per person deal.
I think my radiator neck is cracking so no Dyno for me until I can find the leak and fix it. David has already marked that wall as his own.
Casey, now that I replaced mine and got the various aspects of the install/removal figured out, we could swap yours out easily before then. Use that mod money for a radiator and lets see what the exhaust/chip/intake etc. has done for your car :buttrock. We need to get Justin's NOS hooked up and tuned so that he can come and put down a couple runs too so we can overlay all the power curves for a mod-to-mod comparison of sorts, if that makes any sense...
edit: I've heard about a relatively simple fix for the radiator neck if you don't want to replace it yet. It involves jb-welding a metal tube inside of the plastic tube. A couple people on the forums have done it and it has lasted them a couple years or more thusfar.

Pswirley 02-23-2008, 01:49 PM Pfffft. Practice.
We were so rocking last night. I have to get some more hoodies if this band is gonna survive.
mrnvgtr 02-23-2008, 01:59 PM I wish I could make it :(. I had to get the house ready for pictures today even though its still not ready. Its lots of hard work, especially in this market. I need a night out bad.
dswads34 02-23-2008, 02:15 PM Just transplant the house in Aurora and I'll take a look at it. I am shopping around for houses/condos/townhomes in Aurora for this coming August so that I'm actually paying my money into something, rather than wasting it in rent :alright.
Sorry I couldn't make it down, I can't afford the extra gas/time this weekend if I hope to make it to the monthly meet. That, and I'm trying to find a way to afford the dyno runs I need to make after my software gets here on Thursday, while I study for school.
I'm glad that the o2 sensor worked out Casey, it definitely sounds like one of those things I'll be contacting you for when I do mine. As fun as it is to crawl on my back wielding an ackward combination of tools, I think a lift sounds a lot better/easier. I'm excited to see how the new mods are coming along :buttrock.
Michael- when do you think you are moving? I may not be able to squeeze my budget enough to get my exhaust done during spring break unless I start prostituting myself out. I'll have to see if I can find a local supplier for all my stuff, being as I'm sure that things like mufflers are marked up like 100% or more.

dswads34 02-24-2008, 07:57 PM SeeMeFly, I haven't seen it... I'm already spending too much money, I don't need more moving parts to make it worse :).
To all that made it today, including Renegade , it was good seeing you guys. The cars are looking good, and the turnout was well worth the time away from the books. Casey, let me know on your lights... it may be a couple weeks until I have time (like the 16th, when I have spring break), but I'd be happy to help you get them lined up perfectly in their spots.
RenegadeE36 02-24-2008, 08:18 PM That was a fun meet, much more people than I thought would show up. Good to see all you guys again, your cars are all looking great.
Pswirley 02-24-2008, 09:29 PM We made it home. Mark has permanent sight damage from driving in front of me the whole way back. David, the lights are way more effective now as far as concentrating the light where it should be. Nate, great to see you again. Actually had a ton of fun cruising the mean streets of Aurora.
MARKSS 02-24-2008, 09:34 PM I am definately liking the lights Casey. They actually seemed to be aimed pretty good. I could always tell where you were even when you feel back a little. Just gotta square away that stubborn angel eye.
MARKSS 02-24-2008, 09:35 PM has anyone looked at the E36 estoril blue vert for sale on Fort Carson?
I think you mean the Avus vert. It seems nice, but I think he is asking a little much. Which is probably why it has been there so long.

I'm glad I could help! Now, just convince me that you're going to work on the alignment issue of the one light and I'll be able to sleep at night again. I'm still in the recovery phase of the glovebox from a few months back!
They actually seemed to be aimed pretty good
Did the aim seem to be off? I'd hate to think that I messed up after working on it that long.
jersE46M3 02-24-2008, 09:53 PM I know you guys took some pictures! At least I am hoping so.
Pswirley 02-24-2008, 09:55 PM David, I will fix the alignment issue, now go to bed. They are aimed great.
Mark, thanks. Traffic was pissing me off coming back. 65 in the 105 lane just wasnt cutting it for me.
Seemefly, that car has been there forever. I looked at it and its very clean, but as Mark said its way overpriced.
SeeMeFly 02-25-2008, 01:27 PM I think you mean the Avus vert. It seems nice, but I think he is asking a little much. Which is probably why it has been there so long.
ha.. yeah i guess you're right. It caught my eye but I didn't have time to stop. It would be nice if he would let it go for a good price. I want a vert :devillook
mrnvgtr 02-25-2008, 06:16 PM Hey guys. I'm still not totally sure I'm going to follow through with this, but if anyone is interested (or if you know of someone else who might be) in my '99 MZ3 Coupe, I need to unload it soon. I haven't put it up for sale officially yet, but I'm thinking $21k is a fair price.
No, I haven't gone off the deep end. I'm just facing reality here. The snow sticks around much longer up in Montana and it would be a rough situation to have a 4th car plus a trailer up there. However, if there's anyway to keep the car and get by driving it I will. Thanks.
Bimmer328issp 02-25-2008, 09:28 PM My bad, I had just woken up and must've confused you with somebody else.
JEFF, YOU'RE ALIVE!!! I've got a nice little random orbital buffer I'll sell you cheap if you're interested ;)
Haha, hey I'm alive.I have just been really busy with school and changing schools.Any new mods on your car David?I'm looking at getting a new exhaust and M50 intake manifold soon and maybe new headlights.
dswads34 02-25-2008, 10:03 PM Michael, it'll be a sad day if you sel your mz3 :(. It'd be a little less sad if I could afford it though! I'm nowhere close, and won't be for a few years :embarrasm.
Jeff- what school are you at now? And no, I have no new mods. Want to race? :evil2

UNC in Greely..Cu Boulder Next fall:buttrockYeah lets race haha.I'm thinking about getting a new exhaust and Intake manifold when I get my taxes back thought. How did you do the ASC delete?
dswads34 02-26-2008, 01:52 AM I haven't actually done it yet, that's a planned mod. I'll actually be buying the materials to do it soon, after I figure out if I get a tax return or not (since my only "income" last year was school loans). It's about $100 if you get the pre-made boot, but ~$25 if you DIY. It's essentially just removing the ASC throttle body and replacing it and the ribbed connector between it and the MAF with a silicone tube that flows better. Honestly, from what I've read, I wouldn't do it unless you either hate your ASC, it isn't working, a combination of those two, or you're heavily NA modded. Otherwise it seems that it won't be worth much, except maybe for sound. I'll probably buy my supplies in the next week or two, such an inexpensive mod that'll actually be worth something is killing my pocketbook right now :help. Congrats on Boulder BTW, you'll love it there. Just make sure you stick to the books if you want to do something after college (professional school of some sort), they grade really tough up there and their policies are less than ideal if you're not the cream of the crop, which I apparently was not.
fsmtnbiker 02-26-2008, 01:40 PM I'm thinking about getting a new exhaust and Intake manifold when I get my taxes back thought.
Let me know if you're interested in an M50 + Eurosport adapter - I have one, and I'm going to be selling it soon.

Gotta go now, need to get my singing voice ready.......:lol
Last thing, we need some groupies!
mrnvgtr 02-29-2008, 11:50 AM Jeremy - Its a maybe on being in the band tonight. I got some family issues to work out and then we might be having a date night; but if not, then I'm definitely there.
Pswirley 02-29-2008, 03:00 PM Kalani is going to be in town in a few hours and wants to cruise for a bit if anybody is down for a run or two down academy. I talked to him and seems pretty cool.

What time? I might be up for it. I know David just got into town and all. And still hoping to practice our music, haha! Not to mention, I would like to have a drink or two seeing friday nights are the nights I can let my hair down.

David and Kalani are both coming by Industrial today to say whats up. Kalani should be in town around 5 or so. We can go for a little early evening drive and then back to the house for some Rock Band excitement.

2204 E platte avenue. Its called Industrial Auto Salon. Just past Boulder heading west on platte. You will see my car out front.
Bimmer328issp 02-29-2008, 06:10 PM Thanks Casey,
I'll be down there around 4:30-5:00..
mrnvgtr 02-29-2008, 06:11 PM Cool. I might stop by with Maria just for a quick check of the place out since you'll be there. I think Maria and I are having our date night tonight. First night out gettin our groove on since maybe Jeremy's house over a month ago.
Jeremy - I won't forget the Rock Band night at your place just in case we finish up early for some reason.
MARKSS 02-29-2008, 10:49 PM I would come out tonight, but the wife and kids are leaving for Texas in the morning. They are going to stay there while I am in the field AGAIN!! At least things are looking up. I got my suspension stuff today. The only thing missing now is my new brakes. They should come in while I am gone. Maybe we can organize a weekend project for my car. There is a lot to do, but I would like to get it all done in one weekend ( suspension, bushings, valve cover gasket, fuel filter, and brakes). Do you guys think it can be done? Here's a pic of the goodies minus the brakes.

pre-assembled FTW:buttrock
mrnvgtr 03-01-2008, 12:12 AM Mark - That's hawt! :alright That'll feel good after you install it.
Gang - It didn't work out to make it to either things tonight. We went another direction, so it would have been way out of the way to stop by the Industrial Auto Salon and its a little too late, plus I can't drink, to stop by Jeremy's at this time in the evening. On the way home, I did pass by where I think the IAS sits, but it was too dark to see anything.
Bimmer328issp 03-01-2008, 01:08 PM Casey,
Sorry I did't make it yesterday.I had some buddies from college in town and had to hang out with them.Did you guys go for a drive or just hang out at the shop?
SeeMeFly 03-01-2008, 02:27 PM MARKSS- A friend and I did a suspension change in just over an hour. With a helping hand and some knowledge it can go pretty quick. How much did you pick up that kit for?
dswads34 03-01-2008, 04:09 PM Hey fellas, sorry I couldn't make it yesterday, I was hoping to be able to swing by. Jeremy, I'll take some pictures of my progress on the ASC delete if you like. It has been a short and sweet procedure. Thankfully, the longest part of it will be removing the line to the ICV, cleaning the ICV, and cutting a new line to replace it with as pre-maint.
MARKSS 03-01-2008, 04:29 PM MARKSS- A friend and I did a suspension change in just over an hour. With a helping hand and some knowledge it can go pretty quick. How much did you pick up that kit for?
Thanks, I think the install will go pretty smooth, especially since it came pre-assembled. I actually bought the setup from TurnerMotorSport. I probably paid a slight premium over what I would have paid if I would have purchased everything seperate, but to me it was worth it. My biggest concern is the RTABs and LCABs. I've heard that they can be a big PITA if you don't have the correct tools.
Here's a link to the suspension stuff.

you couldn't be more right.. those can be the source of a big headache.
mrnvgtr 03-01-2008, 09:06 PM So what do you all still think about the business card idea? Are we going to hold off on this still? Its a great idea, and it'll definitely take our little gang to a whole new level, whether that's good or not.

Pswirley 03-01-2008, 10:29 PM Casey,
Sorry I did't make it yesterday.I had some buddies from college in town and had to hang out with them.Did you guys go for a drive or just hang out at the shop?
A few of us ended up going for a very short drive and then broke it off to go to Jeremys and play Rock Band. It was a good time.
Michael, thanks for coming by today to get a peek at where the magic happens and see my latest custom update in progress. You even had the pleasure of meeting Nick, the ultimate ricer. I was laughing on the inside of what you could have possibly been wanting to say as he talked to you about suicide doors on his Scion Toaster.
I am not going to make it to the Ultimate Speed Freak Showdown tonight or to rock with the band because Tracy hasnt been feeling well and I am going to nurture her.
Mark/Seemefly. My suspension took a whole weekend and was a huge pain in the ass. I did a complete refresh so we had a lot of parts to change out but it was horrible. We did consume a lot of beer in the process though. Sometimes short jobs suck because you have like a half a beer and you are done. It leaves you standing over your car shaking your head thinking, "is this it, what can I do now." I have all this beer left over and no excuse to drink it and then I fall into the perilous trap of alcoholism drinking the rest alone in a dark room.
SeeMeFly 03-01-2008, 11:44 PM haha yes...
WARNING: RTABS can cause alcoholism
Bimmer328issp 03-02-2008, 01:18 AM Does anyone know if you have to have a frount plate in Colorado.I can't remember. If not then a plate delete kit will be order soon:buttrock
mrnvgtr 03-02-2008, 01:34 AM Yes, front plate is required. I'm cheating a little. I had to register my M Coupe a few months ago in order to update my title and send to my lender for a fixed rate loan, so I had to finally give up my FL plates. I've had the new Colorado tags inside my car just waiting on my birth month (April) when I have to update the year on the tag and then I'll definitely need to put them on the dang car. Gawd, I hate front tags!:mad
dswads34 03-02-2008, 01:58 AM Don't do it Michael! I see lots of people without front plates, and most I ask say that they've never been given a hard time about it. They'll give you hell for it in Boulder though, Jeff. They gave my sister a ticket when she was parked up there without a front plate :rolleyes.
So my ASC delete is commencing tomorrow... Justin, your car sounds great BTW. Your car held it's own, and now we have a baseline for what to do next. For me... DSSR, clutch/flywheel, and perhaps the most irritating, the Vanos :). The interior looked even better in person, I'm a big fan. My interior is going to be put on permanent hold until I get to 210+ rwhp :evil2
mrnvgtr 03-02-2008, 08:38 AM Casey - It was cool checking the place out and now I understand what makes that place so magical. I didn't think much of what Nick said about his suicide door project. What got me was his groundbreaking theory of what makes a car handle in corners - [edit: heavy] weight. :confused
David - Oh I probably couldn't get by with only the back plate since I enter and exit a military base every day. Actually, I'll still think about it, but I definitely see a lot of cops at close range whenever I go in to work.
fsmtnbiker 03-02-2008, 11:51 AM FWIW, I've had my car for 2 years with no front plate. Been pulled over 6 times so far on other charges, and the lack of a front plate has never even been mentioned.
YMMV.
Pswirley 03-02-2008, 01:57 PM FWIW, I've had my car for 2 years with no front plate. Been pulled over 6 times so far on other charges, and the lack of a front plate has never even been mentioned.

+1 Not only have I not been running a front plate for over a year, but for 8 of those months I was running a Euro vanity plate and never got pulled over for plate violations. I got hassled at the gate on Ft Carson twice over my Euro Plate and told them I was at a Euro meet and must have forgotten to take it off. They said just make sure you take it off, to which I replied okay as soon as I get home.
Nick and his heavy vehicles corner better theory. I just told him his Scion Xb corners well because in a 1.4 liter 4 cylinder he cant get enough speed to make negotiating a turn any kind of a challenge. I just stopped listening to him after about the first 3 seconds. On the good side of Nick, you can give that kid anything with a wire attached to it and he can route it and install it in your vehicle very professionally. He can fabricate metal, weld, shave parts, and install anything. He is very talented in that regard, he just has no taste. He just turned 19.
Chris, the magic that Michael is speaking of is the pieces I bought from you. They are now black M3 sills and weather strips with no cracks or damage and they are installed. They look very sexy in the car. I am very pleased thanks for helping me out with a good price on some nice pieces. I actually get to do work to my own car at the shop on Saturdays, so it was my first chance to get them in.
rwmorrisonjr 03-02-2008, 11:00 PM All, Pswirley found my other thread and pointed me to the Roll Call. Just picked up my first BMW for the wife, a 2000 323Ci that will probably become my toy after we have kids. Just wanted to say hello, but also want to get some direction on some things that need to be done to the car. I need the following to bring it back into spec so I can give it to the wife:
Brakes: need pads & shoes all around
Two new master keys. The one I have is FUBAR (run over, glued back together) so the keyless remote doesn't work. Need to get these ASAP so that I can retire the original master that I'm using.
Cowl molding since the weather stripping is falling apart
Sunroof repair kit since the sunroof shade is off its tracks and the rear "deflector" is rattling like crazy. I'd rather replace it all when I have it torn apart.
OEM alloy wheel for the spare. The spare rim is bent and I found one on ebay for $135 plus $30 shipping, but if there's one closer I'd rather do that.
Good place for service so I can have the major work done. The 60k is around the corner and my boss told me what to expect (cooling system water pump, etc.),so I'd rather have someone else do it the first time out. That's my list for now, I know there's other stuff that I'll think of later.

Wait...you have a 2000 with less than 60k? Wow. Where has this been hiding?
I've done my brakes and its not hard at all. If you need an extra hand, I can help. It will go pretty fast. As for the rest of the service, they are very DIYable, as I plan to replace my water pump, thermostat (and maybe belts) within the next month or so.
Bimmerhaus in Broomfield is always a good place to go for any work. It's a drive for you I am sure, but they might take a look at your car and see if anything else needs to be done.
Welcome to the club!
rwmorrisonjr 03-03-2008, 12:44 AM TRR, thanks for the info, I just might be calling you for help!
The small dealer bought it from the auction in Albuquerque, it originally came from Michigan. Either way, I couldn't pass it up, it had been on their lot for a month and it was ready for a new home. Going to keep an eye out on his lot to see if he gets another one in, I might have to grab it as a commuter/extra toy.
Pswirley 03-03-2008, 01:12 AM There are a few great places in the Springs, Mondino's and I cant remember the name of the other one on the west side of town. Most of us are now using Mondinos for the crazy problems. The best place in town to work on your BMW right now is Jeremy's garage.
Never heard anything bad about Bimmerhaus either. Glad to see you here. Dont be a stranger, we have fun.
mrpresident 03-03-2008, 01:23 PM RW this club is designed to help you with anything from having fun to maintenance so please ask if you need anything at all. as said before welcome to colorado springs roll call/rock band the greatest regional thread there is. as proven by our post count
rwmorrisonjr 03-03-2008, 04:55 PM Thanks for the warm welcome. Just ordered the FSU for the HVAC system, how hard is it to install? Tired of the HVAC surging like crazy already.
mrnvgtr 03-04-2008, 05:21 AM Hey, what' goin on dudes! This is my friday night ya bitches.
dswads34 03-04-2008, 12:04 PM Lol Michael, you crack me up. This is my Monday this week... 9 hours solid of class, with 10 minute breaks between classes :rolleyes. So, I was thinking that if we get to do my exhaust before you head for the hills, I will probably pick up a set of SS or ceramic/JetHot coated longtube headers to make the install easier. It'd be a mess trying to get the angles and everything just right coming off of the stock exhaust manifolds! That, and they're so pretty :).
RW, welcome to the forums. Sorry I can't help with your HVAC stuff. Well, maybe I can, but medical acronyms have all but pushed out everything else in my brain that I don't deal with on a daily basis. Now hurry up and post more so that you can toss some pictures of your car up ;).
So my ASC delete will be happening this week when I get the time to install it... I am trying to decide if I want to use a filter and vent the crankcase breather to the atmosphere, or if I should be responsible and add another port to my boot so that it recirculates through the system. The performance difference is negligible, but I am just lazy and want to avoid cutting another hole in my intake boot if at all possible. I'll keep you all updated on the progress and get some sh*tty camera phone pics since I am incompetent at both being punctual and remembering to do things while I am actually there in person :help.
rwmorrisonjr 03-04-2008, 01:13 PM Okay, I'll keep posting! Just ordered a new master key from Murray BMW ($164- ouch!) and picked up the sunroof repair kit as well. Brakes are next, then the other key, cowl molding and license plate bracket next month. At least now I have a project for this weekend so the sunshade won't rattle anymore.
They had a nice 2005 black/tan 325i sedan on the floor, asking 29k, way too much, but its pretty.

hey all, just checking in.
Welcome rwmorrisonjr. I used to have a 2001 330Ci. I really like the e46 body style coupes! Hope to see yours soon.
Ok all, hopefully I get to see some of you this weekend!
Now gotta go work and then study :help
Pswirley 03-04-2008, 09:27 PM The FedEx guy and the USPS guy showed up today at my house to deliver packages and they were teaming up on me talking shi+, asking me if I was running a parts warehouse, and wanting to know if my car transformed into optimus prime. I was laughing my ass off and then waved and told them see you tomorrow. Keep in mind these are the same two dudes that delivered all of my parts last year at this time and cant figure out why I work on a 15 yr old car the way I do. List is officially down to a half of a page. 1/3 is bling, 1/3 is ooomph, 1/3 is labor intensive.
Much better than the two pages I had 5 months ago. Thanks guys for all of the help thus far.
dswads34 03-04-2008, 09:41 PM That's crazy Casey! You have my full endorsement though, even if it isn't for money :). Mine is becoming more "oomph" and less bling all the time, which doesn't bode well for the pocket book :(. Not that show mods are inexpensive, but a 1100 clutch and lightweight flywheel setup doesn't impress the judges quite as much as other mods that run around that much. Have a good one, and thanks again for helping me out with that tube.
mrnvgtr 03-04-2008, 10:12 PM Lol Michael, you crack me up. This is my Monday this week... 9 hours solid of class, with 10 minute breaks between classes :rolleyes. Does this header come down further under the car and make the needed bend for us? If that's the case, that should be much easier than guessing at the angle like we did last time. With the angle already made, we'd just have to make it straight which should be fairly straight forward. I have my work schedule for the rest of March now. Let me know when you think you want to do this.
Pswirley 03-04-2008, 10:17 PM It all depends on what judges you are trying to impress. The lightweight stuff should definitely make the judges at the finish line smile. I know we are headed a similar direction via different routes. Do what tinkles your ginkle first and then fill in the blanks from there.
dswads34 03-04-2008, 11:58 PM Nah Casey, I'll never be in the show scene, at least I'm not planning on it. I don't mind looking like I could be though! I've been stopped and asked about the car twice in the last week; once was at a stoplight by a guy that kept giving me a thumbs up and a smile until I noticed and then he asked me about it, then again tonight by a guy at Checker who was asking me what year it was and what all I had done to it. The latter guy had a '93 325i... I referred him to the forums, so maybe he'll pop in here some time, he seemed like a cool guy.
Michael- unless my insurance settlement comes through, I won't be able to do my exhaust in March. I have to purchase the headers, 2 borla mufflers, a y-pipe, an exhaust tip, a 180* mandrel U-bend and a length of straight pipe before I can get this done. Until I have the cash to do it all at the same time or Casey wins his game show money, it'll be something I can only plan on. I will be sure to give you plenty of time to plan ahead and get things figured out though, that way we can get it all done in a single day. No more messing around with welding drastically different materials in different thicknesses :redspot.
edit: The headers come down to around where we originally started cutting when we modified my exhaust the first time around. So, we won't have to worry about the downpipes from the exhaust manifolds and their bends, just the y-pipe connection and the bends following the single exhaust through the mufflers and out the back.
Pswirley 03-05-2008, 12:15 AM Update on game show status.
Havent been chosen yet, but I am still in the hunt. I think I can win and I keep practicing.
No Deal Howie.
rwmorrisonjr 03-05-2008, 12:45 AM I tried to the do the sunroof shade repair tonight, and of course a simple repair becomes a three hour mess that ends with the cable jumping the worm gear in the motor. Now I have to spend another night getting the sunroof to close correctly. I should have know something would be different when I opened the repair kit and the shade slider piece was different from the original one, and the kit was missing the little push-lock rivets for the rear deflector piece. Now I can't close the sunroof (stuck in tilted position) and I'm worried that I have to take the car in to fix it. This just sucks.
mrpresident 03-05-2008, 01:16 AM welcome to a bmw lol rw.
rwmorrisonjr 03-05-2008, 01:27 AM Guess so, and I only thought Jeeps were this funky. I went back & looked at it, the cables over the drivers side have popped out of their tracks and have probably gotten twisted around, so its drop the headliner time to fix it tomorrow night.
rwmorrisonjr 03-05-2008, 02:53 PM Sunroof update: I took the entire mechanism out of the car this morning while I was waiting for the snow to let up. The cables themselves are bent ouf of shape to the point that I need to replace them, so I think I'm now in the market for a new assembly w/o the glass or shade. If there's a way to repair these cables please let me know, but I think they were binding before I started this project.
mrpresident 03-05-2008, 04:02 PM my best bet is to replace the cables when repairing a cable you always have the chance that they will short out again. replacing will be doing it the safe way which i personally would do.
KLove83 03-06-2008, 12:19 AM Whats up guys! Its been a long time huh? Not done with the car :( but it is getting warmer and I might be bringing out the gun to finish the bumpers soon :). fsmtnbiker 03-06-2008, 10:29 AM Man the stock E36 ride height is high!
Great looking car!
SeeMeFly 03-06-2008, 10:52 AM Great photos! What road was that?
It's actually the employee parking lot at the airport. If you are going into the commercial airline entrance to the airport, it's the first left on air cargo rd. It would be a great place for multiple cars sometime. i'm down:devillook

Dont do it. I lost three inches on my ride height and gained 5 inches on the waistline:shifty
SeeMeFly 03-06-2008, 07:09 PM haha advice well taken. i'm not looking to slam it.. but just settle it down a bit with a stiffer suspension
KLove83 03-06-2008, 09:01 PM Hehe thanks guys! Here are some pics for my friends GST...

KLove83 03-06-2008, 09:04 PM Anyways whats everyone doing this sunday? Im actually going to be taking more pictures sunday of my friends car and a photos of a girl that is working on her modeling pro. So more cars the better!
Plus I still need to meet everyone since I remember starting the OLD thread a loooong time ago.
I really need to get my car done. Its been way to long
dswads34 03-06-2008, 09:27 PM Klove, that was not a girl in those photos... :confused
RW, sorry to see about your troubles with the sunroof. Did you get it all sorted out I hope?
An update on my own project: I took a break from studying last night to remove my ASC throttle body and install the silicone boot. I also removed one of the lines that originally went to the intake elbow and put a crankcase breather filter in it's place, thus avoiding putting another hole in my new boot/elbow and posponing purchasing another vaccuum hose.
First impression... throttle response is better, and it seems to have a bit more "oomph" as Casey would put it. It is difficult to have an objective opinion though, seeing as how it was a fair bit colder today and that very well could have been the difference in the car. Combine that with the fact that my butt dyno hasn't been calibrated, and there may not be much of a difference at all. Nonetheless, I'm happy with it. The sound is a bit more aggressive, revs drop a bit faster on shifts than they used to, and it looks pretty :). Can I ask for any more?
If anybody cares to see it, I'll take some sh*tty camera phone pics and toss them up later.
I plan to come in town tomorrow since I have family flying in from FL on Saturday, so if anybody knows of someone who would be interested in the shocks I have for sale just let me know so I can be sure to bring them along. I won't have much time for the car this weekend though, seeing as I have 3 large exams monday-wednesday :eyecrazy. On that note.... back to studying! Have a good one fellas.
rwmorrisonjr 03-06-2008, 10:05 PM ds, I have to order a replacement cartridge since the worm cables are mangled. I'm looking at some used ones online since a new one retails for $700. Is there anyplace local that would be good for these parts?
I also need a replacement OEM wheel for the spare, are there any local reconditioners so I can get rid of the bent one in my trunk?
I got the new FSU in today so I can fix the HVAC system. Are there any tricks to replacing this? If someone's available for tech help there's lunch or the adult beverage of their choice in it for payment.
New brakes will be here next week, those look easy to replace. But then I've been known to be mistaken...
Pswirley 03-06-2008, 10:32 PM David, I miss you like a play cousin. Good Luck on tests.
Klove, I am down for a few pics and have a few good spots we can shoot at on Ft Carson. I am also willing to go wherever depending on the weather and should be able to get a nice buff on it saturday.
Justin, tell your high school ricer friends to crash.
FLy- that spot you shot at is absolutely the cleanest shot of the mountains perfect and would be great if we could everyone together for a group shoot. Including the Michael/Klove anomaly.
RW- sorry about the sunroof and I wish I was a little more technically proficient. The only car that doesnt really intimidate me to tear into is the E36. Especially after the 2 day suspension refresh and beer drinking fiasco that actually came out with a pleasant result, and the 10 hour cat back swap. LOL
Pswirley 03-06-2008, 10:44 PM Oh yeah, sorry to Double post but I also have a hook up now on auto detailing in the springs. I dont have a price sheet, but I have seen his work and I know a lot of the show guys in town are starting to book appointments with him. He quoted me $25 on a full engine bay detail. He also said that if you say Casey from Industrial referred you, he would discount prices for you. The shop has been referring out a lot of business to him.
Info
Owners name is Daniel Montano
He is insured and bonded
Company Name: Top Notch Detail
Located: Motor City
Phone: 217-9703
rwmorrisonjr 03-06-2008, 10:46 PM PS, at least I was able to get the roof back in so that its closed and weather tight, so the car's driveable. Now it needs a good detailing to get the fingerprints and dirt off the headliner and trim pieces! If I can make it out for the Sunday ride I will, but I'll have to check with the other half first.
Pswirley 03-07-2008, 12:22 AM Just bring her along, I will have mine too.
rwmorrisonjr 03-07-2008, 11:32 AM I asked her, but she wants to finish painting the living room this weekend, so I'll be solo if I make it down there.
Pswirley 03-07-2008, 08:24 PM Can someone get Kevlars attention, it looks like we need to get ready for Roll Call V.2.3
