I'm wanting to change out the emblem on my hood and the one on my steering wheel. The one on the hood is looking a little rough and the one on my steering wheel is a little pushed in in the middle. Anyone have experience. Searched the forums but was unsuccessful.

You can get it from pelicanparts.com and a number of other places. You can even order them from ebay if you would like. Should run you around 15 - 20 bucks.

Search under Rondel Replacement. I changed my blue to black. Its easy.

51 14 8 132 375 That's the part number for the hood. You can also find it at bavauto.com

Also check this post. Has a list of a lot of good BMW part vendors.

Well, I found the one for the hood now I just need to find the one for the steering wheel. If anyone knows where I can find one please let me know. I'm hoping you can just replace the center emblem without having to replace the whole wheel.

The one on the hood and trunk just pull off. Get a piece of packing strap, slip it carefully under the edge and pull. If you don't have any packing strapping, you can do it with fishing line. There are just two pins that fit in grommets, friction fit.

The steering wheel ones have adhesive on them. You will apply the new one right over the old. They are everywhere on ebay.

I highly advise NOT to mess with the Roundel emblem on the steering wheel. It took a lot of research and development to create a way for that thing to not become a projectile toward your face/head/neck/chest when the air bag deploys at over 200 mph.

There's even a warning in the owners manual to NOT place anything on the airbag. Proceed with caution. You may be able to find some aftermarket emblem that is the same size...but you won't find one sold by BMW for the air bag. Unless you are purchasing a new airbag which will have the emblem already attached.

Wow. Good advice.

My airbag roundel is slightly dented too. I did some research last night and found several threads (didn't save them unfortunately) that addressed the issue. Qsilver7 is right. You should replace the entire airbag cover if you're going to do it. For that amount of work/$, I can live with a little dent... I think it gives the car a little character. :)

How the hell did all the steering roundels get dented? Mine was the same way when I bought it. Maybe the PO beating on the horn?

That was the only theory I could come up with. :dunno

Unfortunately mine is more than just slightly dented. Its a real eyesore on an otherwise pristine car. It just really chaps my a##!

If its really that badly scratched...then look for a peel-and-stick type label that you can place over the exisiting one. The idea is to make it something very thin (like a stamp on an envelope)...and avoid an actual emblem that has weight and thickness.

A thin label adhered over the existing Roundel shouldn't come off...but the explosion of the bag with the added energy & force from another object making impact could easily dislodge an emblem that has been glued on etc.

Well its not scratched just dented in towards the top and a little in the middle. I'll have to post a pic when my wife gets the car back home after work one day.
