View Full Version : 850i Pads (I searched)
525fourthew1n 01-06-2008, 11:08 PM Okay, so here's the deal. I've got two 850i single-piston (before 08/93) FRONT calipers and I want the best pads I can get at a decent price. My options don't seem to broad, and Hawk doesn't seem to make pads for these calipers. I think some EBC pads are made to fit my calipers, would RedStuff or YellowStuff pads be something to try? (and no, I don't want them just because they're painted with bright colors :D)
(regarding the search, it seems to be disabled or something. I get the No Matches error every time.)
What do you guys recommend?
Thanks!
8eights 01-07-2008, 12:01 AM Stock Kevelar pads stop great, And you can get them at the dealer, There also rotor friendly, Bottom line is, Pads that stop excellent and quick, Eat up rotors! or you can get stop quick and eat up pads from the dealer. There's is a Pad that's right in the middle of both, Don't remember the name though. The picture of the sway bars, There for another car right?

Hmm, okay, yeah that's something to think about. So just get stock pads from the dealer? Price? Any other places to get them? Great info though, thanks!
Yeah, the stuff down there is for my Touring. It accepts a lot of different brake options, one common upgrade is F 850Ci brakes and R 540i brakes.

8eights 01-07-2008, 12:50 AM Rotex gold pads work well.........I believe that's the one in the middle i could'nt remember, I have Euro everthing and don't wanna replace nothing soon, I've had good luck with Dealer Euro Kevelars, They come with brake dust though.
Koizumi 01-07-2008, 02:05 AM Rotex Golds here... I like 'em so much I already bought another set for the next time I need to change pads.
8eights 01-07-2008, 02:13 AM Did your car come with 4 Pot Calipers up front? Lots of 840's do.
Koizumi 01-07-2008, 02:27 AM Stock 4 Pot Brembos :)
prit singh 01-07-2008, 04:57 AM Hi mine also has the stock Brembos, a compnay called Textar which is original equipment
here are excellent. They stop well and dont eat the rotars. However do leave lots of dust.
Also my breaks are very soft on the 840 and i can push peddle all the way down. I have never driven any other e31 so dont know any better.
NickF 01-07-2008, 10:48 AM Prit, i'd change your brake fluid that should sort out your soft pedal. Old fluid absorbs moisture and becomes compressable, giving you spongy brakes. I bought a easy bleed kit that uses the pressure in the spare wheel to pressurise the master cylinder. Made the whole job a piece of cake. GSF sell them for about £10. Ignore the instructions though, you'll need a good 35psi to make it work.

Textar are great pads, stop well but wear quickly and very dusty especially if you have drilled/slotted discs............I hated the dust......
prit singh 01-07-2008, 11:20 AM Thanks Nick
i will get that done asap

ELIBEEMER 01-07-2008, 06:07 PM MINTEX pads are great...stop great, dont eat rotors, and they leave a light gray dust on the wheels...(vs. the Black Dust on OEM pads)
I have ran Mintex pads on my previous e38 and i was cleaning the rims once/week vs. 3xs/week
8eights 01-07-2008, 06:12 PM Lol, I have to wipe every time i drive it, But know harm is happening to my Big brakes system either, Once a week, Your lucky.
525fourthew1n 01-07-2008, 06:58 PM Well this is all great information. So far I have a lot of pad names with "ex" in them... Rotex (I keep thinking Rolex), Mintex and Textar. I will look into all of these.
8Eights - That site link, http://www.zeckhausen.com/BMW/E31.htm, is great, thank you for finding that.
Since I now have a place to get some Hawk pads, has anyone had any experience (bad or good) with Hawk pads (HP+, HPS, Performance Ceramic)?
I'm not too concerned with dust, since I'm rocking some t-stars with black centers, and wear isn't a serious issue either.
EDIT: oh, since some mention their BBK's, what kits are you guys using?
Koizumi 01-07-2008, 07:04 PM Rotex Gold = no dust, and gentle (yes, gentle) on your rotors.
