I have a chance to get a 2002 M3 engine, trans, radiator, wiring, etc....I would really like to swap it into my 99 S52 Mcoupe. I have all of the exhaust issues taken care of. My question is how difficult is the swap going to be with the electronics. The person helping me with the swap is a guru with VW swaps ( R32 Motors into MK3 gti's, etc. ) but I really would like to know what to expect before I even consider starting this next weekend. Any advice will help....And yes I have tried the search function with no luck.
Thanks in advance guys!

I'm not very experianced with swaps, but I'd think that the electronics are pretty similar. According to what I've read, the S52 and the S54 are very similar/

I think the short answer is... it's hard. Check out UUC's thread on swapping an S54 into an E36; it's not as simple as "a wire or two"; there are MAJOR differences in wiring and other stuff. You'll probably wind up saving money by just selling your S52 car and buying an S54 M Coupe... Then again, it's all time; if you've got the time and the know-how, get to it!

Its possible, however there is so much work to be done. You know you will need the fly-by-wire gas pedal too right? Not to mention an M Coupe S54 wire harness. E46 M3 will not work.

I have the fly-by-wire assembly, and I am sourcing a Mcoupe harness now. This looks like it will be a bigger pain in the ass than I was hoping. Its would be nice because the price that I am getting the S54 engine, trans, wiring, and pedal assembly for equates to what I can sell my S52 set up for.

Keeping the EWS aligned is the only issue we are having currently. Once this is ironed out it will make S54 swaps pretty easy. We have several cars allready running S54's with stock ECU's in a variety of bodies.

Because the mcoupes already came with an s54, this will be much easier than an e36 build. "simply' build it to the original specs of an 2002mcoupe using the stock DME from the engine, wire harness etc. Like stated above, the hard part is ews alignment

Sounds easier than most engine swaps
