Caymandiver75 04-14-2003, 03:29 PM Sounds good to me. I'll give them a call later. Han 04-15-2003, 02:07 PM you can also use a pickle fork between the ball joint and the strut. document 04-20-2003, 06:14 AM Or, whack the bolt with a hammer from above. If you need to re-use the tie rod, leave the nut threaded on a few turns to protect the threads of the ball end. You should replace the nut, anyway. markr325is 04-20-2003, 07:44 PM don't wack at it too hard, you don't want to destroy the ball joint. W/ the tie rods, they are usually easy to remove once the nuts off. Just move the strut around, you may have to pry inbetween the rod and the ball joint. Mine came off by hand w/ a few tugs. If you bang away at the joint hard enough w/ a pickle fork you could end up replacing the rods if you're not careful. When you grab the threaded part of the tie rod and you can wiggle it around at all, it needs to be replaced. document 04-21-2003, 09:36 PM Well, my tie rods were in like bastards. Given that I was replacing them specifically and didn't care about the balljoints, I started out with a picklefork. I trashed the rubber boots, but the tie rod didn't come close to popping out of the steering arm. A few modest whacks on the top of the balljoint bolt with a 4lb. hand sledge and it was out, though. I would think that method doesn't harm the ball joint, as well. |
