LexdiamonNYC 01-06-2008, 03:50 PM there isn't much difference from the F2007 as this car is an evolution of that car.....
from what I read this won't be it's final shape either as there's a major aero package to be added to it soon........
still a beauty, and I'm so glad they went with the darker red:)
Only things that look obviously different at the barge boards and flick-ups on the front and rear of the sidepods.
It'll probably make the car even more aero-wake sensitive. :)
JuliusPleaser 01-06-2008, 06:39 PM Needs more toe-out.
GotBHP? 01-06-2008, 07:36 PM Man I wish they would go back to the original red.
LexdiamonNYC 01-06-2008, 08:42 PM the official site.:)

TAMUmpower 01-06-2008, 09:12 PM If you look at the view from the front, the nose is higher with more wing in its place. pretty different looking

If you look at the view from the front, the nose is higher with more wing in its place. pretty different looking
My first impression was that it is a similar concept to the TF107 front wing introduced mid 07
TAMUmpower 01-06-2008, 09:44 PM Well the literal difference is small. but it seems to have a little higher nose
///Mal 01-06-2008, 10:34 PM The front looks a lot different, so do the radiator, and it's still going to loose :stickoutt
ghambino 01-06-2008, 10:36 PM It looks menacing.
GotBHP? 01-06-2008, 10:43 PM The front looks a lot different, so do the radiator, and it's still going to loose :stickoutt
It will never loose... :confused
Lose maybe.
TAMUmpower 01-06-2008, 11:01 PM There are a lot of cars being launched in the next week or two. Should be interesting to see if anyone tries out some significant new aero devices. like the BMW nose blades or the top plane Mclaren wing.
328ischef 01-07-2008, 01:08 AM 100 million dollar fines for everyone!
German Pride 10 01-07-2008, 01:21 AM I kinda like that darker red.
100 million dollar fines for everyone!
Except for Renault :/
CaracasE30 01-07-2008, 02:37 AM Def. needs a BIT more toe out!
The only launch I was hoping in catching was the Prodrive 08 contender but with that already scrapped...i guess i will have to make do with more "evolutions" of previous chassis. The Super Aguri launch was interesting, just because of the fact that we got to see a 2003 Arrows all over again! Haha....
SDKmann 01-07-2008, 02:44 AM As usual, very sexy.
E36UC 01-07-2008, 02:59 AM I'll take 2 where do i sign
Ianbiz 01-07-2008, 03:02 AM sexy.

Ahh yes, the usual typo's .... and smart asses ..
Alpine torque 01-07-2008, 06:04 AM god damn.... it looks good
B.Watts 01-07-2008, 08:50 AM There are obviously a lot of Ferrari fan boys on this thread, because that has to be one of the ugliest open wheel cars I've ever seen...and I'm usually one who sees a lot of beauty in function over form. But that car is just chopped up and ugly.

are you serious?? the car in dark red with only the Shell logos on the sides looks amazing(no more Vodafone, Tic Tac etc.), especially with that lifted wing in the nose
What's the deal with the built up bodywork by the driver? Is that a new head protection rule for 08? The McLaren has the same piece.

yep, 08 reg following the crash in Melbourne where DC tried removing Alex Wurz's head with the underside of his Red Bull

not sure exactly what you're talking about....??...
here's a few vids where you can see the car in more detail......
there's even a an interview of Kimi, and he smile:eek::eyecrazy:eek:

LexdiamonNYC 01-07-2008, 04:02 PM and another of Kimi giving it's first shakedown earlier today @ Fiorano......
enjoy it's almost 10 minutes long...

I agree, its not a very attractive car, but beauty doesn't win races, Kimi does :devillook
LexdiamonNYC 01-07-2008, 04:26 PM beauty doesn't win races, Kimi does :devillook
when Massa gives him the pass:devillook
Dino Antonov 01-07-2008, 04:39 PM when Massa gives him the pass:devillook
Yes you're right, every race Kimi has won is due to Massa giving him the lead, just like in 04.
TAMUmpower 01-07-2008, 05:04 PM Well form follows function, I dont think they shape the car based on what is looks pretty. and technically compared to F1 cars say 50 years ago we dont have any beauty left in the series apart from the wives. But isnt that the point, who cares what it looks like.
personally i dont really see any good or bad looking F1 cars. they all look very similar and just look crazy to me.

thanx for the info Captain.........refer to post#2 in this thread:rolleyes
AC Coupe 01-12-2008, 10:01 AM I'm not sure rules really allow for "revolutionary" cars. But the car does have a different wheelbase and weight / pressure distribution from 2007.
and look for the latest aero trick possibility coming (http://axisofoversteer.blogspot.com/2008/01/hole-in-head.html) :)
kreizy31 01-16-2008, 07:33 AM I could make that my daily driver.

:rofl holy cow, and word for word too :shifty
robweenerpi 01-20-2008, 06:44 PM and I'm so glad they went with the darker red
Hmmm lets see. Our cars have been red for 50 years. What color should we do this year to liven things up a bit.....DARKER RED!!! BRILLIANT!!

This one was my favorite. Or from 01'

I agree. The 90's era cars are by far my favorite looking. These are definitely faster though.
AC Coupe 01-21-2008, 11:14 PM C'mon guys.... there is beauty in function... and the the way modern aero guys sculpt the airflow is just amazing. I wish you could see the airflow...
onetrillionrpm 01-21-2008, 11:28 PM so beautiful
bmwtuner325is 01-21-2008, 11:34 PM is it just me or do the wheels look very odd?...i havent had a chance to catch many races as of late but they look wierd to me...can anyone enlighten me?

Ferrari developed a wheel cover that helps to vent the brakes better. not sure exactly how it works, but that is why they look odd.
Jake
detroit635csi 01-21-2008, 11:44 PM no traction control in 08 right? should be an interesting season..

ah got ya.....must make changing tires interesting

:lol:lol:lol:lol:lol:lol:lol:lol:lol:lol:lol:lol
Helps to vent the brakes better? No, Ferrari called them "brake ducts" so as to get around the fact that they are actually movable aero devices designed to limit the amount of drag produced by the wheels. Since it was Ferrari, the FIA let them do it, so now other teams are doing the same.
B.Watts 01-22-2008, 09:17 AM ah got ya.....must make changing tires interesting
Not really...they spin on and off just like they always have.

I imagine they're getting a bigger reduction in drag by increasing the delta P across the brake duct, which allows for a smaller duct inlet. So yea, they're a brake duct.

On the rear they are attached to the wheel, so they rotate.
On the front they are attached to the nut via a bearing and the upright/hub, so they are static when the wheel spins.

this was when the were first used at the British GP...
http://www.formula1.com/news/technical/2007/778/444.html
Although they've been tested at Barcelona and Paul Ricard, Silverstone marks the race debut for these items. Their purpose is to direct the hot airflow generated under braking away from the wheels and underneath the car (red arrow). The slit in the rim shield has a specific 27-degree angle to achieve this. The hot air accelerates the airflow underneath the car, hence helping with the extraction of air via the diffuser. This provides additional downforce, better stability and an improved aero balance. As you can see, the function of the front shields is completely different to the rears, which simply aid brake cooling and reduce turbulence.

then an update for the Turkey GP...
http://www.formula1.com/news/technical/2007/781/461.html
Introduced in Hungary and retained for Turkey, a thin Gurney tab (blue arrows) has been applied to the top half of the shields. The tab has a slightly curved side profile, wider at the extremities and narrower at the centre, so as to split the airflow in this area in two. This reduces the turbulence generated by the inner portion of the shields and helps with hot-air extraction via the diagonal vent in the lower section (red arrow).

bmwtuner325is 01-23-2008, 12:15 AM so that confuses my original question even more.....they must be removed before changing tires or what?
TAMUmpower 01-23-2008, 12:32 AM so that confuses my original question even more.....they must be removed before changing tires or what?
From my observations in the pit stops, the shield comes off with the wheel nut. In fact, the wheel nut gun has a massive lexan like shield cupling to support the shield as it comes off.

hm thats interesting....i guess i didnt think of that possiblity....kinda a cool idea

ding ding ding!!! winnAr.
5mall5nail5 02-04-2008, 03:17 PM Is it just the angle/pic or is the front toe that far out in the overhead shot?
///Mal 02-04-2008, 09:52 PM On the front they are attached to the nut via a bearing and the upright/hub, so they are static when the wheel spins.
Yep, Functional 'spinners' FTW :lol
ding ding ding!!! winnAr.
So ... these also serve as aero aids then, correct? Yeah, you know what I'm getting at ... ;)

That was my thought. All the "modern" F1 cars are just butt ugly. FIA should just make a rule that says "2 aero elements in front and 3 aero elements in back" and loose all the extra winglets and crap.
jsedlak 02-20-2008, 11:08 AM To the original op... did you take the pictures? If not, then don't watermark it with your imagery.
