I picked up some style 94's to replace the BW's. I took the car out for a spin with the new shoes. Since I haven't really driven the car since I bought it I came to a stop sign and punched it. I had DSC turned off so the tires broke traction a screached a little bit and white smoke began pouring out from under the hood. Thinking for a sec, I didn't think it was customary for smoke to be comming from under the hood...
So I stopped and assessed the situation, and realized I managed to blow a nice size crack in the side of the radiator... great...

What's your mileage? Let's see if it corresponds to the average (and normal) mileage range that the radiator craps out.

Hang in there. :)

How about the build date of the busted radiator? The label is located on the passenger (right side) and the radiators build date is located at the bottom of the label (if it is a Behr):

It's a Behr radiator, I will check it. I threw it in the trunk of the 99

That sucks man. I can almost smell the coolant by looking at those pics. My rad has got just at 3 years and 60k miles on it. Still holding strong though. WI'd be shocked if you told me that was your original radiator at 150k.
Nice E65 wheels btw. Were they fairly expensive to come by?

I got the e65 wheels off of craigslist for $400

The radiator born on date is March, 4th 2002. So my guess is that is the cars second radiator, and that it was replaced once under warranty.

So in 8 years it's on its third radiator

Thanks for the reply...it also coincides with the average life span of about 40k-70k miles before they crap out.

That's good info to know...regardless of time...the radiator failure seems to be determined more by mileage.

(Hmmm, keep note in mental rolodex.) :stickoutt

That is a help to me. I have been thinking about replacing the radiator on my 540i because I have 73K and not sure if it has been done. Well I just checked that date, 14/12/05. Looks like it has been replaced. I bought the car in 09/06 with 53k, so must have been replaced at pretty low mileage for the car a year earlier.
