First off, i have a 2000 323i, with an alpine 6 disc cd changer in the trunk. I just got an ipod and i wanted to hook it up to my car, but i cant buy any adaptors for the Head unit, because my car has the outdated headunit (02 and below). I took a couple pictures of the wires in the trunk and the cd changer. I really dont know what any of the wires are for, but i think you would be able to somehow connect the ipod in the trunk to one of the wires (with a adaptor from radio shack or someplace) Please see all attached pictures and tell me what you think i can do. thanks Jay

The box is the integration module that connects your alpine changer into your factory system. If you want to integrate your iPod into your car you can use the DICE iPod interface and it will work fine, you will have to lose your changer though.

We offer a DICE iPod integration module that will integrate your iPod with your factory stereo. Here's a video of how it works with your factory head unit.
DICE user guide (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=htRkQypGsNg)

The DICE unit will allow you to control your iPod through the factory head unit controls, the steering wheel controls, and through the iPod's controls (except on the newest generation). It will allow you to search not only by song but also by play lists and albums within that play list. Not only does the DICE unit transfer audio and allow you to use factory controls but it will also place song and artist info on the factory radio display.

If you have a new generation of iPod (iPod classic, Nano 3g, iPhone, iPod Touch) then it will go into accessory mode when connected to the DICE and lock out the iPod's controls. There are two ways around this; you can hold down the home button (iPhone, Touch) or the menu button (classic, nano) and then the controls on the iPod will unlock. Using this method will remove the iPod's text from the factory radio's display and control via the steering wheel controls and head unit, but you will retain control through the iPod itself.

You can also do a more permanent solution by switching the DICE unit into "simple mode" by changing the dip switches on the module to the down position. Using this method will remove the iPod's text from the factory radio's display but you will retain control via the steering wheel controls, head unit, and control through the iPod itself.

If you have a large music library on your iPod and you see yourself needing to use the iPod's controls then you should take a look at the 2point5 spec.dock. Its a great way to dock your iPod in an easy to access place. Plus its designed to work perfectly with the DICE module. Take a look.
